It depends greatly on the genius you get and what mood they are in. I would really try to send in an adult if you are a teen. Constantly their record is to give EXTREMELY POOR service and attitude towards teens and those dressed like a punk. Have an older person dressed in a shirt and a tie go in and I can Guarantee a completely different outcome. (from experience) If that doesn't work raise some hell and be heard. Be the judge of it though. If the damage is considerable, then the iPhone is totaled and you may need to buy a new one or Ebay it. If you complain and make a big enough stink they will work with you. Finding another genius is also another solution. Good Luck!

Cheers for the advice mate. I know, the treated me like I'm something on the bottom of their shoe. Next time I go in, I probably will take my dad, but he wanted me to speak about it..last time we were in the Apple store and I had technical issues he told them I purchased it at an earlier date by accident...I didn't get a repair! I was quite proud of my efforts. I started of speaking to someone in a blue shirt..then, I got to speak to someone in an orange shirt, then navy, then someone in a suit. I wasn't taking no for an answer...but it didn't work! :(

Anyway, I'm not a punk, I'd say more surfer style! haha!

Or send your gf in with a very low cut top, worked for me. And she had a laugh also ;)

Nice plan..the Genius's get something out of it, and I get two things out of it!

Drag up and go to your local Apple Store. They will probably change the phone immediately just to get rid of you.

Haha, I'm already hated across the whole Apple Store network. I've been calling Trafford Centre all day. It's come to the point where I just get a busy tone when I call now!

No, I understand your style. But that was more of a general tip. They treated me like ****. They ignore you - abuse the face of your age and everything. It's by FAR the worst part about Apple. The thing that always works for many is to have someone older with a tie go in and have a talk.

Yeah, I even tried the I've bought loads from you, Macbook, 3 iPods, iPhone etc, but you still get treated like ****. Anybody got any ideas of what I can say, that could possibly get them just to hand of the goods?

I was thinking of something more like this. You will just be able to get through the door.

Does anybody know what I can say to get the Birmingham Apple Store to swap my iPhone. I was thinking about taking my mate (the person who sold the iPhone to me) to it on the train.

I went in two days ago and said my screen had uneven brightness, showed the guy the streak along the right side and he goes, okay, BRB. Comes back out with a fresh 4GB iPhone and has me sign some papers and I'm on my way. It did not come with 2.0 though and being on dialup, bummed me out a little, so gonna need to go find some wifi or something, ugh...

Why don't you do the update at the Apple Store? They have free wifi....

I have had nothing but great customer support at the Apple Store whenever I've needed it. I'm a dude and I look younger than I am, but no one there has ever treated me like sh*t or has been power-trippy on me. All I've done is to make sure to be very nice and polite- and to pretend that they know more than me about everything Apple.

I dropped my 16 GB iPhone a few months ago on concrete and dented it really badly on the back near the top of the aluminum. It was ugly. It worked just fine though. No problems. About 6-7 weeks ago, a bubble formed on my screen that was the size of a pixel. It looked like a black dot on the screen when there was a white background. I brought it in to the Apple Store, showed the 'Genius' the bubble, and he replaced it within 30 seconds. He could care less about the dents. Now I have a perfect mint iPhone again.

Keep trying. Go to another Apple Store. Be polite. Present yourself well. Eventually, you should be able to get it replaced. That is, unless the battery really was damaged in the fall.

Apple can be jerks

i had a problem last year with the 1st iphone. i had to take it to an apple store in tysons corner mall. only a week since i got it and it had dead pixles. they replaced it. well...the new one did also and the best part is...they actually told me, "i don't see what you are talking about, there is nothing wrong with that phone, you just want another 1"
yeah, needless to say i was escorted out buy security and went home and called customer care and they said that should not have happened and that blah blah.
that situation almost made me go back to pc.

That dent looks pretty bad (deformed the area of the case). I would say there is a good chance the drop had something to do with it.

You have two options, go to different store or call Apple over the phone and hope that works.

I made sure, as I always do, that I was polite, and I was dressed well too. I don't see how the dress should matter anyway, as long as you don't turn up in chav clothes.

I'm gonna try it again, with my mate. Please, if anybody has any any more advice, please reply!

Unfortunately, the way you present yourself does matter to people. It's just the way the world works.

Good luck.......

I've tried calling Apple, and they have told me that they wont just send me a new one, but they told me I could go into a store, and they give me a new one, but they obviously don't want to do. As I said earlier, Apple Stores say they are superior to Apple Care.

Exactly.

From the OP's photo, it looks like significant damage.
*
I was thinking the same thing...they're not going to replace that for you.. I would suggest going to a different store, and just say its not working, and act like you don't even notice the dent, let them find it, if they do then be like wow, how did that get there? :D

Yesterday, my mate upgraded to the iPhone 3g, so gave me the original iPhone...

Haha :D

OP, so I'm confused??? Which one is it, "given to you" or "sold to you?" If I'm confused, I'm certain Apple is confused as well.

to me that looks like pretty bad damage-- he top part of the case seems to be separating from the bottom part (ie: causing a bit of the gap)-- i think you would be pretty lucky if you found someone to replace that-- best of luck.

He sold it to me, but I paid for it weeks ago. The deal was, he gave me that one when he got his 3G. Sorry I didn't make it more clear.

IF ITS ACTUALLY JUST A DENT AND NOT HARDWARE SEPARATION...

I can confirm from nearly 20 personal first hand accounts that Apple uses this excuse for EVERYTHING related to the iPhone. Oh, your speaker isnt working? Well that dent on the top messes it up. What, your camera is broken and noting comes up on the screen? Thats the dent. Headphones? Dent. Sync issue? Dent.

Tell them to open the phone up and prove the damage is connected. They wont. Tell them to bring the manager, and if the manager doesn't help tell them to bring the actual manager, like the one guy who runs the store. I forget the title. Then, if you have any receipt from Apple on the bottom there is a link to post a note about your negative (or positive) visit. If you post a negative, that store manager will call you.

I don't know why you wont send it in and see what they do... you did say that they scratched your mac, but the dent in the phone is pretty bad so I doubt they could do anything more to it. I would say you would have better luck that way..

One option that worked for me when I had a similar problem a few years back was to start raising my voice and causing a scene in the store - I wasn't rude or aggressive, I just started to louder and louder.

Within 60 seconds I was given the refund I'd asked for, prior to being escorted off their premises by security and told not to come back again.

Uhh... raising your voice is being aggressive and rude....

I would have had you escorted out WITHOUT your refund.

Thanks very much for all your help guys. I'll tell you how I got on!

I got an idea.

Take the iPhone into the Apple store with a silicone case on it so you can't see the scratches. Show it to the genius, let him see how it doesn't turn on. Once he agrees it doesn't work, offer to take off the case so he can look around the outside, and in doing so, purposely drop the phone on the ground (or desk) after you have successfully taken off the silicone case.

Then pick it up all flustered and upset and make it look like you just scratched your phone with the drop the Genius witnessed with his own eyes.

You can then claim the Genius witnessed it not working before you dropped it. Only catch is if he gives you some trouble about that you cannot prove the the scratch wasn't there before, and your defense, either can he. Gives you a bit more ground to raise hell, and maybe a foot to stand on.

Things to do:

1. Tell them it's overheating. They'll replace it right away, damage or not.
2. Call AppleCare, get a case number, take it in to the store. AppleCare can overrule anything the retail stores say.

Or do both. Just don't tell AC about the dent. Then, if anybody at the store asks, say you told the AC guy and he said it wasn't an issue.
