Would you sue me if I dumped milk on your shiny 15" MBP?
Just because it is your mother doesn't mean you shouldn't take action.

How much does a lawyer cost?

100$+ an hour?

Forget it. He'd lose money in this affair. ;) Better just argue some more and ask her to pay for the damage she did.

EDIT: I googled it, and they ask (gasp) at least 220$ per hour. For lawyers that just graduated.

wow thats not douchey at all

Sir, I am detecting problems with your sarcasm detector
lol

he could do it himself with the help of google im sure. and as soon as she got served she would probably pay up.
No, I think that the OP was completely serious. Have you seen what else he's posted in this thread?
yeah im sure he can read.

and it would be a very funny practical joke it it was a friend and a junky car and right after they started freaking out you tossed them the keys to a brand new car.

I still don't think it'd be funny. Not funny at all.

Well I managed to remove everything, even the logic board and everything looked fine. I couldn't find anymore liquid??? It's funny how I could only find milk on the battery, which is as far as you can get from the keyboard, unless there are areas I can't see.

I reconnected the logic board correctly, I'm worried though that maybe if it doesn't work, that it could be something to do with me fiddling around with the board, I mean how sensitive are these things, I was very careful with it, and didn't damage anything of course...

Well, I wish you good luck. Hopefully that's the only place the milk got. And cleaning it off is good for long term health of it. Even if the liquid/stuff doesn't kill it in the short run, having stuff on the board can eventually wear it down and kill it later (it's also why cars that have been flooded are not worth much, water damage can do stuff to electronics that doesn't always happen right away).

did you rinse it with the distilled water?

The keyboard seems to seal the logic board pretty well.

I'm thinking that the milk got through the trackpad... Not through the keyboard. If anything is dead, it would probably be the keyboard/trackpad (which equals a replacement topcase...)

Not trying to be a 'Debbie Downer' but seeing the amount of milk you have on top of your battery, it seems like A LOT of milk was spilled on it. I wouldn't get your hopes up of having a fully functional MacBook. I would expect a faulty trackpad. And as everyone else said: your warrant is toast. But I hope everything works out for you

Your mom is your mom because she's your mom and no matter what, she is who she is; which is your mom. Food for thought.

How did a simple thread about water damage (in this case, milk damage) turn into a thread about a bitchy mom, and fighting over how a hard drive works? This thread should probably only be around 20 posts, if every post was about helping the OP. I and some other people need to grow up, act mature and focus. I know I am not perfect (I was the one arguing with someone else about why pouring milk on a hard drive and then soaking it in water/alcohol will destroy the drive), which is why I am posting this. This is so people can be more focused and accepting on the forums.

I think they should re-brand this site, "The Real Housewives of Cupertino".

There sure is enough drama here! ;)

Ok after I took out the battery and found absolutely no traces of milk, I cleaned some areas with contact cleaner, and put it all together again, and daringly (probably shouldn't have), turned it on. And it's working... To make sure nothing was wrong or had changed I used it for a couple of hours and everything seemed to be working perfectly fine. The time and date needed reseting for some reason but that was it. [Edit] Of course the keyboard backlighting is screwed up...
Since my warranty is destroyed anyway, I'm going to take it to apple tomorrow just to make sure it's in good condition, and if I should expect any issues in the future, and check out any repairs I can get.

I couldn't find distilled/deionized water anywhere btw, it's impossible to find.

Thank you everyone for all the awesome help, I don't actually want to thank too soon incase anything does go wrong like tomorrow, and I have to come running back here. But thanks anyway.
And heck yeah, I'll be moving out next month for sure.

If you have some money right now, I would take it to Apple today and get them to repair any waterdamage that you may have. That way if something goes wrong in the future, they won't blame it on the spill.

If she did it intentionally i would try to find a way to move out of there, It's just crazy to have a Passive-Agressive relationship with someone

That is very good news to hear... If you would like the backlight on the keyboard fixed, just go on PowerBookMedic's website, and use ifixit's guides.

Jesus, lots of immature posting in this thread.

I feel for you threadstarter and I hope that your Macbook is saved.

Yeah great advice...

File a suit with mommy to further escalate the bad relationship. This isn't Jerry Springer..

Get thrown out of the house for suing mom.
Have get a job to support yourself while either homeless or living at a friends house.

Thats whats wrong with american attitude today.. eye for an eye doesn't solve anything.
