Welcome to the future.

Humans today have writing and language.

We are super humans compared to our ancestors that didn’t have language.

In the future there will be those with AI and those without.

Those with AI will be the next super humans that will make humans today seem like cavemen/women.
And when the next major Carrington event disables your AI, you can come to us “cavemen” to learn how to survive

I would hope for someone more like Steve Jobs.
Not sure how MacRumors feels about YouTube posts.
Search for "Steve Ballmer Going Crazy on Stage."
While I enjoyed my old Mac, I feel like I'll be stuck with Windows. I don't know anything about the Microsoft CEO.
I need a single device for everything. A MacBook Air is simply too expensive for me. I can get what I need from Dell for about $500.

Sorry to hear that bruh. Hope you come back to the Apple world one day.

Were the 70s the golden era of home computing? I wonder if we will ever have a time like that again.

It feels like the next breakthrough may be in robotics. But the cost of entry might mean it can’t be run from a garage with your mate.

I’d never heard of the Carrington event before. Thank you for that.

I would speculate you don’t know how to farm, hunt and slaughter an animal, build a house, reassemble a car engine, etc.

I know how to do all of those, except reassemble a car engine.. I stopped using automobiles 20 years ago. Military combat and survival training were among the best things I’ve ever learned.

"consumer hardware doesn't advance as quickly anymore…"
You don't follow Nvidia, do you?

No one outside of PC gamers care about Nvidia, and even then, a lot of gamers have years-old graphics cards as even high-end ones for 4-6 years ago are still very adequate.

What they are doing in the AI space is not consumer hardware.

You're right, the whole creative industry that makes use of CUDA based Nivida hardware means nothing.

I keep seeing this, how come yourself so many people seem to shut down AI stuff as rubbish? Have you tried chatgpt or any alternatives? It can be really powerful and I’m very excited for Apple Intelligence. Genuinely interested to hear your perspective.
I tried it once just to be nosy, but that is it, I have no need for it. A normal search engine like duck duck go does the job fine.
Also look at the mistakes these AI services are making,

As I have disabled Siri everywhee, and have no plans to re-activate it, I assume that I can't use Apple's type of intelligence.
All good with me, using ChatGPT without useless Siri works perfectly fine.
I have disabled Siri as well, more or less a couple of days after i got my mac, found no use for it, I don;lt have a microphone connected to this computer anyway

Future consumer hardware will be designed and built by companies using Nvidia hardware. Either buying or leasing it. And once it gets started, there's going to be a bullet train of new developments.

There won't be.

We've already hit the end of Moore's Law. Even Nvidia knows it.

Computing power increases from here on out will be incremental, not exponential - at least until or if quantum computing becomes a feasible technology. There are physical limits to how small traces on wafers can get, and we're getting close.

I’m not even sure quantum computing will be the way forward. Quantum computing deals with probabilities rather than absolutes. Also, quantum computers, in their current use, require below freezing temperatures in order to operate properly and the average user cannot afford such refrigeration facilities. I think we need to switch to a new technology - similar to the switch from vacuum tubes to transistors.

Good to know about this. Seems like Apple Intelligence is the main feature Intel Macs will be missing out.

It’s amazing they kept Rosetta alive this long. Unfortunately most of my Intel apps have some 32bit libraries. Wish we could compile missing 32bit libs like you can with Ubuntu, even on newer 64bit versions.
Because of this limitations I have to keep an Intel Mac mini around.

Not a developer so I dont understand this. What Intel apps are these?

Not that many of them but just think about those 50k Mac Pro in early 2020.

That‘s 4-years ago. And let’s not forget it won’t suddenly stop working. It will still do everything that it could do when it was purchased. (For the record, I do concede if it was me, I’d be upset. That’s why I bit the bullet and got rid of my Intel MacBook Pro which was less than a year old when M1 Pro was announced.

Next year there's probably going to be a similar article titled "Here Are the macOS *insert name here* Features M1 Macs Won't Support" 😢

I think that’s inevitable. At least it will be clear to the consumer which machines are supported and which start to lose access to new features.

Yes I have tried many of them, including chatGPT, and I don't find them any more useful than a good DDG or Google search query. I also really dislike the superfluous chatter and chat-like responses, the use of training of data without the creators consent and the lack of referencing the original sources. I have zero need for virtual assistants.

In addition, I want nothing to do with any Sam Altman affiliated companies.

They are improving every day. I now use one of these tools a few times a week to get real things done. You risk being left behind if you don’t embrace them.

I don't think Cook likes being the news and limelight at all and would prefer to be invisible to public, but can't due to the nature of the position.

Agree. He always seems awkward, but a company like Apple with Mr Jobs legacy demands a CEO who can fulfill the role in this way.

Need to be more efficient and use less energy, while my Mac mini uses a lot less energy than my old PC and is more powerful in some ways a lot of x86 CPUS are still energy hungry compared to arm based chips, While Arm is good, only have to look at Macs and also the new CPU for Co-pilot+ machines, it is still not possible to play high-end games on them and even my Mac mini M2 pro will struggle with 3D modelling

Going back to Apple Intelligence and AI in general, I head on the news that Google and microsofts carbon footbprint have increased because of AI. found these links on the net.

Nice one.

The point I'm making is it's unlikely our culture and systems will regress to a bygone 'everyone fend for themselves' era.

The fact macrumors exists is an example of what humanity has achieved. Only possible because we have systems around farming, power distribution, etc. Freeing people to pursue interests (science, art, education, etc) other than survival.

Hope to see you on the AI train one day.

Mac Mini 2018 here. I can also live with that. See you next year or the year after for an upgrade in computer...

Last year I upgraded from a 2020 iMac to an M4 MacBook Pro + Dual Studio Display. Very glad I did. I think people will be able to eke out several more years of intel before they are firmly in a niche legacy category but not necessarily suitable as the modern main driver.
Are you a time traveler? Please explain how you got an M4 MacBook Pro last year.

Sam Altman (ChatGPT) has nothing to do with the basics of Apple Intelligence. ChatGPT is an option (following an explicit yes/no - do you want this submitted to ChatGPT?) For complex requests only.
