Here comes Rita

Have you seen the latest radar updates? The first thunderstorm bands already look like they are in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. The main chunk of rain already looks to be very unsettlingly close to New Orleans.

I don't have Katie's cool plywood, but I did put a bunch of duct tape OS X symbols on my glass panes...

I taped my front window that was too big for plywood...

When I saw this pic, I thought it was a pic of my house! haha.

...I suck.

Katie, if you have instant messaging (Adium, iChat, MSN, etc.), would you be open to adding someone here (could be anyone at all... not necessarily volunteering myself) to your contacts list in that program? That way, if your power or telecom goes out, that person will see you drop off the Internet and can inform the rest of the board. If your connection stays up, we'll know you still have power and Internet access.

Just an idea...

very much the awesome game.

VERY AWESOME!
I've never been one for games...even solitaire (which is preserved for Dellards), but two Christmas season's ago, I got hooked on this stupid, stupid, stupid game. Finally had to go cold turkey by mid January, and haven't returned. My kids didn't help though. :p
Edit: and I failed to mention, all you in Houston and SE Texas, be safe!

Good game for hurricanes! :)

clayj, we can just watch the front page of the forums to see if she stays online. If we see her offline for a few hours, then we know that she's lost her connection (but that's all we'll assume, 'cause we wish the best for our hurricane buddies).

Good point... I forgot about that feature.

Its beginning to feel erie outside now. That cool gusty wind and strange sky color is upon us. A hurricane is near, happens every time.

Take some pics man! post em! We all wanna see the beast....

Where I live, which is a little over 300 miles away from the shore I'll be getting some rain and maybe some wind. I hope that the people in Houston and Galveston make it out ok.

I'm glad to say I was wrong!. Even though it looked like it was getting stronger this evening, it kept getting weaker - ever so slightly. Down to 140mph sustained winds now according to The Weather Channel.

Just in time for landfall, the NHC is predicting another possible tropical cyclone may develop within the next 36 hours south of Bermuda, right near where Philippe is. That could potentially be problematic if a new storm is able to feed off the energy Philippe had, but how often do storms that form in this area actually hit land?

To all those potentially affected by Rita: hunker down, move out of the way, whatever you need to do. Just keep safe. We're all hoping and praying for the best.
