You buy a phone with no bezel, then you put it in a case to add a big bezel.

This Is my thinking as well. There are a lot of cases on the market that physically hide the bezels and all you see is the display. One way or the other, you're covering up the overall design of the iPhone as it is.

Do we really *still* need a back cutout proudly (aggorgantly) displaying the Apple logo? We get it, it's a fancy high-end iPhone. The owner smugly has superior taste in his/her choice of mobile telephone.

Stupid IMO.

Probably due to all the clones/manufacturing taking place in China. Hard to believe but the Chinese/Korean market is even more brand/appearance showy than North Americans are. The designs reflect a design base in Asia, which makes total sense.

I guess that makes some sense but if someone is going to clone an iPhone, they will probably clone the Apple logo on the back.

Maybe I'm just grumpy today.

There will never be a white notch, and there will never be white wings next to the notch. There will be a dark mode, because black saves lots of power! No way will they not take as much advantage of that as possible. So, I expect dark mode will be a big reveal in the keynote. Apps will be in the new dark mode by default.

I can't wait to see what Spigen rolls out. Hopefully they go back the 5/5S era and their cases actually have COLOR.

...I've actually trolled eBay for weeks looking for new old stock Slim Armor S cases for my SE, just so I'm not stuck with the bland colors they sell now.

Perhaps I am a minorty here, but I use my iPhone without a case, at least where I can appreciate the design more. However, The September Keynote really needs to get here. I'm ready to see what this new iPhone is all about.

It is sad that Apple is so inept at designing a phone after 10 years that they are unable to design something that the majority of their customers can't use safely without a case. They need to get rid of Jony Ive and get someone that lives in the real world and not some museum where they display all their magical thin and fragile products. Instead they will play another 5 minute video at the announcement about how amazing the black glossy coating they put on the phone is, only to chip so easily that no one in their right mind would want to own one that was going to actually use the phone. With all the money they have, they "could" design a functional nice looking phone that was usable by most people without a case, but they choose not to because of this priority of art over function.

This is another one of many reasons why Apple continues to get farther and farther off the path I'm on.

I personally never used a case on an iPhone, until I got the 6 Plus. It's just too big and slippery to not have a case.

It's like people are waiting on the 8th iWonder of the iWorld... it's comical. All this guessing and still nothing concrete other than it will be over $1000.00...

I've always hated cases, especially those with the piece cut out for the Apple logo. I get why so many choose a case and if you need one, great. But are you really that insecure that you need to show off the fact that you've got an iPhone so people know even when it's set face-down?
I have always used one of Apple's silicone cases, mainly because it makes the phone grippier (and protects a bit) while adding minimal bulk. Apple can emboss the Apple logo on the back of their cases to replace the covered-up logo, but that would be a no-no for the third party manufacturers. I've always wondered if the cutouts are because the manufacturers know that people want the logo to show or because they're afraid that people want it and will go elsewhere. I always thought the cutouts looked stupid.

BTW, I suspect the cut out/logo deal is less about when the phone is set face down and more about when the person is talking on the phone. For me, I couldn't care less about having other people know what kind of phone I'm using. It's not a status symbol. The 20ft tall solid gold lion statue on my front lawn is a status symbol.

it is crazy to me that people keep showing the visible notch. The whole point of a notch is give the illusion of edge to edge screen by blending the top sensors into the screen (like the Apple Watch does... not with a notch, but with a bezel that appears to be part of the screen under glass). Why would Apple go out of their way to make a weirdly shaped OLED panel just for kicks?

i honestly hope that notch will not be the final product.

I'm starting to get really hyped for this new iPhone! Biggest change since 2014! We're only about a month away from the release date!
Why? It will run the same OS your phone will and it's ugly. I had every model since 3g, but can't support this ugly thing.

I will not put iPhone 8 in the case due to its beauty and different design from its predecessor. This is will be the first time for me of not using the case for the iPhone.
It's really ugly. It needs a case to cover that hideous top notch.

I think it will be. And the purpose of the Notch to maximizes the screen to body ratio, which I'm all for it. I really don't think it looks that bad at all.

but in landscape..how will it look? will everything shift and the left side of the screen (or right side - which ever side you flip it on)?

That I don't know. That is if the Notch actually exists to begin with as well.

yeah i just can't see how that notch works when viewing a video in landscape. unless it blacks itself out via software but could avoid it in a whole by just not having it. more seamless like the S8 screen IMO looks great.
