Well, you’ve got QUITE the quest on your hands sir!!!
According to your definition, I don’t believe there’s a single product on the market that qualifies as “edge to edge”... best get to forwarding your pictures to the tens of thousands of news outlets using dissimilar vernacular & see if you can sway any of them.
Or, you know, just let it go & realize that not all terms are 100% literal.

Oh I know I may be fighting a losing battle :D Anyone who's read some of my past posts will know I feel the same way about the horrendous abuse of the word 'unlimited'... !

If the dummy models are accurate it looks like the display and back have a frame around them. And the display is nice and flat. That makes me happy.

I don't think the iPhone 8 looks elegant, but I think it's cute and has a bit of "personality".

I don't find the idea of putting a case on particularly appealing, but I do want to do something so the camera glass isn't sticking out so much. I want it made flush to the rear surface. Maybe someone will come out with a thick tempered glass back protector. Ugh, now that I've typed that out it sounds so unappealing. Oh well I'm sure I'll find something.

Well those cases are hideous, that camera bump is the ugliest thing I've ever seen and the phone screen is not edge to edge, I see a reduced bezel. If the loss of Touch ID is true, this is one phone I'll definitely skip.

Nothing has been beautiful since the iPhone 4, the seven is slick, but doesn't stand out in a saturated market.

Here's hoping the new Apple TV and home hub are exciting this year, otherwise my wallet is safely tucked away for 2017.

This phone still looks one step behind the S8 IMHO.

Can't help thinking the small top bezel on the Samsung S8 looks more aesthetically pleasing makes me wonder how much of the design decisions here have been influenced by being able to claim the best screen to body ratio of any smartphone. I think a lot will be made of that during the keynote.

The bigger question here is how much of the screen real estate is actually usable.

It is sad that Apple is so inept at designing a phone after 10 years that they are unable to design something that the majority of their customers can't use safely without a case. They need to get rid of Jony Ive and get someone that lives in the real world and not some museum where they display all their magical thin and fragile products. Instead they will play another 5 minute video at the announcement about how amazing the black glossy coating they put on the phone is, only to chip so easily that no one in their right mind would want to own one that was going to actually use the phone. With all the money they have, they "could" design a functional nice looking phone that was usable by most people without a case, but they choose not to because of this priority of art over function.

This is another one of many reasons why Apple continues to get farther and farther off the path I'm on.
But it is exactly the path we are on

I feel the same way about the thin strip at the top and bottom of the S8 being quite nicely done and certainly very neat and the mock ups we have seen so far of the next iPhone look very clumsy by comparison. I would be surprised though if Apple releases something exactly like the mock ups - I suspect that there is some element as yet not known for certain and it might be related to using the OLED technology to utilise those spaces either side of the cut out so perhaps they will find a way to make it work elegantly.

I will not put iPhone 8 in the case due to its beauty and different design from its predecessor. This is will be the first time for me of not using the case for the iPhone.

That will be beautiful in 8 months, with all the scratches on the back and the spiderweb crack in the screen.

Perhaps I am a minorty here, but I use my iPhone without a case, at least where I can appreciate the design more. However, The September Keynote really needs to get here. I'm ready to see what this new iPhone is all about.
been caseless since iPhone 4 in 2010. Wouldn't have it any other way.

What's great about Apple is even though I'll never buy an iPhone I still look forward to what Apple see's as the future of mobile

Where is the time going to go? You know, the time at the top middle of the screen... where the camera cutout now sits?

I think it will be. And the purpose of the Notch to maximizes the screen to body ratio, which I'm all for it. I really don't think it looks that bad at all.
The notch looks ugly and makes the whole phone look like an anonymous Android device (NB I used to use some of HTC's nicely designed devices, including the beautiful HTC One S).

I wonder whether the iPhone 8 is actually an Ive design? He seems to have been wanting to leave for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if the 6/7 was the last design approved by him and that he departs shortly after the 8's launch.

Another interesting item - Ive's group seems to be responsible for the near-useless touchbar:
"Instead, after two years of tinkering with larger touchpads and other approaches he won’t reveal, Ive and his team came up with a slim, multitouch strip that replaces the function keys at the top of your keyboard. "

I wonder if he is slowly being pushed out of the Apple inner circle. TC is just looking for a good (stock price) moment to announce the change. As regards to stock price - Apple has been buying a lot of its own stock to keep it high...

I would love to be able to do that yet I'm too paranoid about it being too smooth and dropping it even though I've never dropped a phone. I've also seen so many case free phones at work and they all look horrible.

At this point, my 7 Plus may be worth keeping another year. I don't want face unlock and have to see my ugly mug each time I want to use my phone. I just use Touch ID too much.

Unless it's implemented under the screen.
Where do people get the idea that you’re going to see your mug each time to unlock?
Pretty sure you only going to do it once to set it up.

You buy a phone with no bezel, then you put it in a case to add a big bezel.
But it has bezels!
Even the fugly Samsung S8 has bezels.

We will all be amazed when Apple reveals to us the next iPhone line up. That is for sure :)
Or be disappointed.

The pictures of the white bezel in the front makes it look like a cheap Android knock off... not sure if I'd want to see that thing around. Black bezel is definitely more fitting from these pictures.
It surely doesn't look like a cutting edge smartphone. Still thick bezels.

From a design perspective the S8+ crushes the iPhone 8.

The Symmetry is more appealing.

The iPhone 8 doesn't look bad though. However there is a strange retro cool I'm liking about the iPhone 7S+. I hope it ships with an OLED display.

That would be nice, but I really doubt that will happen. The OLED screen is supposedly one of the biggest reasons for low supply of the new design iPhone.

I agree on the S8. Makes more sense to have the thin bezels on the top and bottom. Guess we'll have to wait and see how things actually pan out, though it's not likely that the keynote is going to show anything different than what's already leaked. The leaks have been spot on for the last few iPhones.

Sorry Mona-Lisa.

I wonder what happens when the phone is in landscape and you watch a video.

That cutout is going to be lost space and distracting.

I like how most of you guys aren't getting the new phone cause you think it's ugly. Gives some of who want the new phone a better chance at getting it when released! ;)

Guys. I believe that you know in your heart that Apple after Jobs is getting very slowly to a point of no return. I know that I can't talk for you but ... look at it. It is not sleek. It is not a work of a perfectionist. It is a compromise. I am talking about the camera bump. And I believe that I am not alone here.

I also use it without a case. I have a Jet Black 7, and the material is fantastic for handling the phone. I chose to not worry about scratches. I look at it as a tool to be used, not coddled. To my surprise, however, after nearly a year it has no visible scratches. I'm sure that a close inspection would reveal tiny abrasions, but it looks like new. I also agree that the keynote needs to get here. :)
