I use Siri all the time for lots of things. Even google searches are sometimes easier when you can just push a button and ask what you want. And with the new ability to listen and buy music I'll use it even more.

I can't get it to work and yes i have turned it on. world well on my iPad but not my iphone5.
Anybody else had issues?

Yeah this is really upsetting to me as it's easily one of my favorite new features!

Perhaps once it gains popularity they will alter it? Hoping so! Really loses value when relegated to plugged in status.

Seriously, think about everyones biggest problem with iPhone. Battery.

So why would your microphone be constantly using our precious battery for "Hey Siri", weigh up how many times you'll use it daily. Against evert waking second its searching for your voice.

One of these days the battery will be able to handle it and it will be a game changer. I'm sitting here at my computer w/ my phone plugged in & a song came on. I just said "Hey Siri, what song is playing?". It was impressive, definitely one of those features you show off (once it's in like Beta 4 or 5 and works consistently). :D

I just noticed that the "Hey Siri!" thing just works when the device is plugged. Kinda letdown...

He said that at the keynote. "When your phone is plugged into the car"

Could have been a little clearer that it was only there, as a feature of CarPlay basically.

----------

It's because the current hardware can't support 'always on' listening mode so yo need to be plugged in to use it. I'd put money on this being a feature of the M8 chip so only a few months to wait :) I've been wishing for always on Siri for a good little while now

The MX chips are about motion so why would it have anything to do with this feature

This doesn't seem to work for me if my phone is connected to Bluetooth; which is the case if I'm in the car.

If I'm not connected to Bluetooth, it works fine. If my phone is connected, Siri always responds with, 'Sorry, I did get that'. I was hoping beta 2 would fix it, but no luck.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I just submitted a bug report to Apple. No one else has this issue with Voice Activation?

Hopefully this feature is implemented intelligently for in-car Bluetooth use.

In my Volvo, whenever the phone is "listening" (whether to my voice for a phone call or for commands), it does so through the car's mic up by near the sun visor. It also auto-mutes the radio or music for the duration of the conversation/command.

If the Hey Siri feature is always listening (while plugged in), hopefully it is coded to listen through the iPhone's mic only, and not the Bluetooth receiver's mic. Otherwise I would imagine it will screw everything up — muting the radio so that it can always be listening.

Of course, it's possible that Hey Siri will use the car's microphone but that Volvo will implement a new software update to fix it (and make drivers pay through the nose to have it installed).

I got a response from Apple in regards to the bug report I submitted for the 'Hey Siri' feature not working I f the phone is connected to Bluetooth. They said that Engineering has determined that my bug report is a duplicate of another issue and will be closed. I haven't received this kind of response for any of the other bug reports I have submitted. In the past I've always gotten an email asking if the issue has been fixed in the latest beta. Has anyone else received an email like this for a big report? I assume it means someone else submitted a bug report for the same issue, so they closed mine because they don't need two open cases that are the same and they are still working on it, but I'm not really sure.

They actually stated this in the keynote.. not a surprise at all. Im glad of the decision.. it would kill battery so fast to have siri listening 24/7

I expect iPhone 6 will have a special low current circuit for always on listening like the Moto X.

Weird Siri glitch

Not having Siri listen when its off the charger is better IMO. Now I can use my phone without touching it (which is a Godsend when driving in my city).

Make it a habit to plug your phone into your car when you drive. Then "Hey, Siri" will work.

Not necessarily... Google Launcher constantly listen to "OK Google" without kill the battery life... Loving the this feature...

the moto x (which debuted this feature) has a separate processor specifically for this. tuned to save battery by devoting the processor's focus to one single thing.

running the iphone's CPU constantly just to listen for hey siri would kill batt.

same reason they didn't introduce constant movement tracking until the iPhone 5S with the M7 (a separate processor devoted to just that).

Does anyone else phone randomly come on with "hey, siri" but it was never mentioned?

Yup. I have both of my iPads (Mini and Air) plugged into my computer at work all day, and they frequently light up with "What can I do for you?" at random moments.
