on my 2 macs, HS runs better than sierra (just ask logic pro X); and (on the 10.13.5 beta), am happier with the os than i've been in years (by virtue of the fact that my apps run well, and am not thinking about the os)...

Out of curiosity: are you using Pro Tools as well or just LPX? I went back to Sierra when HS was at 10.13.2 (iirc). Assuming I would probably stick to HFS+ if I were to do the upgrade again, how would you rate 10.13.4 (or 5) regarding playback performance, session load times, CPU usage etc... I do have Logic but I admit I almost never use it as I'm too comfortable and fast in Pro Tools.

i don't use PT, so i can't speak on it. LPX is running better here on 10.13.5 than it was on 10.13.4 (faster, more stable). i have to say... have had no issues in some time, on either mac (i also run FCPX, and that's running beautifully too).

both of my macbooks are on afps as well...

For me, El Capitan and Sierra were the worse. High Sierra had a rocky start, but as of 10.13.4, it's been smooth. Much smoother than the final release of 10.11 and 10.12.

The video picture is incredible on high Sierra! I just need to beef up my mini to get that OSX to function, or return to mountain Lion.

I have been using Mac since Mac OS 8.. So, quite some time. HS is the first release that I instantly regretted updating to. I had the AFPS third-party firmware issue, and tried a fresh install of HS three times on said SSD. The SSD is brand new... So I upgrade to HS on my original HHD. There are a few apps that have stopped working altogether, and I keep getting graphic artifacts with my mirrored dual monitors. And the security flaws were a bit surprising as well. But it is a very nice looking OS.

I put Mavericks on the SSD, which seems to be working quite well.
I really hope that Mojave has better quality control than High Sierra did.

^^^^^I've been using a Mac since MacOS 6, though I was a consultant at the time and had some experience with sys 4. But, my experience with HS very different than yours. I luv it 10.13.5:p

Same here and 10.13.6 Beta (17G31f) is very stable.....I like it a lot.

Forgot to mention another issue I have been having where iTunes just does whatever it wants. Anyways, I suppose it could be a ymmv sort of thing. But there are definitely common issues that cannot be ignored, such as the SSD bug. Just because it has not happened to you, does not mean that it is not a problem. However, I may give it another go later in the summer.

and yet, many people (myself included) are using the ios betas and HS without issue; i still don't get how people don't understand that their experience (and this goes for me as well) doesn't speak for everyone.

did you consider troubleshooting and/or getting help with whatever problem you had on HS? there's a great community to get help; this one...

I'm one of those who is GENERALLY satisfied with HS, even if it still looks like 10.10 OS X "Crayon". My complaint is that HS has completely HOSED both my external drives (and with them both of my external backups).

^^^^^I have 7 drives installed in my cMP 5,1. 5 SSDs and 2 HDDs. None have been ' HOSED".

I don't ask for much out of my Mac Mini and MacBook except to be able to stream my iTunes content from my mini to my Mac Book at night. Since iTunes got updated and I was dumb enough to put High Sierra on both of these devices this use case has completely become flaky. Every night I have to restart iTunes. Sometimes no matter what it just doesn't work.

It isn't just my MaBook having issues streaming iTunes content. The Apple TV 4 doesn't work at all with iTunes streaming any more.

This is the type of thing that is like nails on a chalk board for me. The lack of testing and breaking of the integration between devices is enough for me to look at other devices for content on the TV. It's enough for me to say I'm not buying another Mac ever. Which is fine because their computers are over priced for the hardware anyways and Tim seems to like soldering everything on.

Good job Tim. You took a long time fan of Apple and in 7 short years you have converted me to anything but Apple.

So much for High Sierra being about making it as stable as the days of Snow Leopard. Steve must be rolling in his grave.

High Sierra is a awesome and the best is.

I'm glad that you have no problems; however, those of us who have problems you will hear from. We are the ones who are UNhappy.

Your are speaking for yourself. I have an Nvidia GTX 1080 Gaming in my cMP 5,1. Using the latest Nvidia Web Drivers is causing absolutely no issues for me with HS 10.13.4. NONE!!!!!

Lou

I don't use the NVIDIA web drivers. Pre HS Apple's drivers worked just fine, without the need to add anything additional. And I *wish* I were just speaking for myself. I really do.

I'd been holding off updating to HS because of all the 'horror' stories on MacRumours. I finally cracked, a week before WWDC, and not only did my update go flawlessly, HS has actually made Substance Painter work perfectly again with my GTX 980Ti. Everything works as it did before and the latest MacOS is absolutely fine on my old 12-core Mac Pro – just like it always has been... what a bloody great machine this is.

Indeed. This thread is chock full of FUD... glad to hear it's working well for you, as it did for me.

Did you install on a third-party SSD? APFS troubles with my SSD was the primary problem I had with HS.. The computer would not even recognise the SSD after upgrading to HS and formatting to APFS.

Yep, it's a 256GB SSD, converted to APSF. Can't remember the brand, I think it was from Crucial. Had zero problems so far...

Been a Mac user for 20 years. My first Mac ran 7.x. If HS is your idea of worst ... you need a history lesson in Cheetah 10.0, Puma 10.1, ...

Absolutely agree to that. First of all, I liked that image of nails on chalk board, cause it feels the same way to me, especially because these are things that Apple used to be proud of (well integration and compatibility across its devices, good build-quality and flawless performance). Now it isn't the case any longer. The software has so many bugs and keeps crashing just like Windows used to do. It's very slow and unresponsive sometimes. I don't understand how my brand new MacBook Pro 2017 lags sometimes when I have multiple apps running in the background. This is so disappointing.
I'm definitely not a fan of Tim Cook. He turned this company into a joke to other competitors. Jobs demos were like "See how we beat Microsoft's ass when rendering this image or applying these visual effects", and nowadays Tim Cook stands on the stage feeling so proud of his stupid Animojis "They detect your tongue now!", wow! As if I was buying a 1000 dollar machine in order for it to detect my tongue.
That was a very general criticism. I know I didn't specify one device, but it's just the same experience across all of Apple devices. The deterioration in quality is unforgivable.

Oh trust me, it is now under consideration. If enough of us do that, I can only wonder what will happen with  computers and their prices.

If you are talking about Windows 10 then you might think twice if you took the time to read the latest Windows 10 EULA's. As I recall the recent updates explain how they can revoke your license for using language online that they deem as unacceptable. Not only is it spying and collecting your data but it also appears to be monitoring your language, thoughts, etc.. and good luck if you think you can find and plug every data leak in that dam. I didn't even get into the issue of Win 10 updates ... that would require an entire thread of it's own. :(

For now I'll still choose Apple on it's worst day and I'll run Windows 10 safely sealed in it's VMs. Windows 7 Pro is still good but doesn't have much extended support left (it ends in Jan 2020). If the day comes that the apple falls completely off the tree and rots on the ground I'll be looking at Linux.
