yes but eSata port is great when you edit video because Express CArd adpater is useless.Apple wants to be the best.Apple is number one in video post production. My opinion when Acer has eSata in their laptops Apple will too.And BD?No it is not so important when you edit video.

true, but the iMac used to have a matte screen. They're going for the consumer right now, just your average "look at my pictures, send my email, watch some movies" consumer and that could end up screwing over a very large majority of us.

If what i predicted before is true, then on tuesday, will be blown away, but if the only notebooks we're seeing is this Macbook and this Macbook "pro" then i think we have alot to be worried about.

Unfortunately, we're actually in the minority and by far. The majority will use it for YouTube/Facebook/Flicker/MySpace etc and fool around w/ iLife, maybe do some word processing and always turn heads at the coffee bar. The minority will go beyond iLife and use Final Cut/Logic/Photoshop.

It used to be Macs were a specialized machine that catered to artists primarily. That all changed w/ the iPod and now they're fullblown into the consumer market as their share goes up & up every year. The big money is w/ the casual consumer w/ more money than common sense when it comes to a computer purchase. Eventually the artists will be less & less of a priority for Apple. They're already worried about the low end consumer market and they've NEVER worried about that before so I think thats an indication as to how things are going in the future.

Damnit Apple - why use Mini DVI - it can't power a 30 inch cinema display! I for one hope that Apple make these new MacBook Pro's worth the upgrade, or I will be heading off to the refurb store to buy one of the current models, as I'd like to be able to power a large Cinema Display in the future.

i'll reckon it might have a adaptor of sorts, just wait till the 14 until you make a decision, for all we know these pics could be old prototypes, just wait

Ok, I have a quick question, kind of a dumb one....

What is the port that is needed to hook up a macbook/macbook pro to a cinema display? This will probably be my first mac but later on I want to be able to have a desktop/laptop combo hopefully with a cinema display. Thanks!

Don't you get it? The smaller on is a the 13" Pro we've been waiting for. Note that there are going to be 11 price points for the notebooks (up from 8). Hmmmm.

OK. After reading what everyone has to say I think that we can conclude that:

The larger case appears to have space for a firewire (probably 800) spot, near the ethernet port We can tell it's not MagSafe - look in the bottom shot, the magsafe is clearly there, as are the other two ports. Also looking a the bottom shot, there are black markings around the mystery display port/usb port next to it. Could this mean anything? The larger laptop also has an odd recess or hole near the front on the left. We can see from the right side view that there is something black where to hole is - but it doesn't appear to actually be a hole.

The smaller laptop does not appear to have a firewire port. Apple may be able to adopt an ethernet/firewire port or incorporate it some other way... Also - if you look at the bottom view, the bottom right (the front corner of the left side of the laptop) there is a metal plate here. I can't find any markings on the outside of the case though?? Also, I don't think that the hole is a IR receiver - we can still see this on the front edge of the smaller laptop's photo.

I personally have next to no idea what will happen come Tuesday morning. I think some of the theories that apple will sell a 13 and 15 inch consumer model alongside the 15/17 inch pros seems strong, but I can't see them using the same styling on the consumer 15" and the pro - this image is definately an evolution of the current pro design...

I also like theories that Apple have been developing a new display adaptor - maybe something that uses USB too?? (see above). This could then go in ALL the laptop models (MB, MBP and MBA). Shame about the ports on the larger model. But then the current 15" Pro has 2 USBs, the 17 gets 3 - so with the extra space, apple may easily be adding another USB to the larger model...

Like I said - I have no idea - and hate to speculate because I am often wrong (I can't help it though!)... I am going to wait till Tuesday (Wednesday, 4am for Sydney, Aus) to find out - I'm excited!!

Full size Dual Link DVI, like you'd get on a desktop or on the current MBP. You can get it on a macbook through a mini dvi- dvi adapter, and the next MBP will probably have a mini dvi.

the Cinema Displays use a DVI connection so you will need a whatever-the-port is to DVI adapter. and to drive a 30" Cinema Display the port will need to be dual-link like the current MacBook Pro's DVI out.

Not stoked about the possible loss of FireWire from the 13"-ers.

That said, it ain't over until the gent in the black turtleneck sings...

Looks like Apple has planned to nickle and dime people to death on purpose. Everybody will need to buy 5 different special converters from them just to get all their stuff to work. Probably at least $50 a pop. Their pricecut looks good on the surface, but they'll end up snatching up way more this way.

i doubt that apple would do something that stupid to it's consumers. just wait and see what happens
