Anyone else think the spy shots look like this nVidia press release photo?

9to5mac impliied that lst week, you might be on to something. If they had the test models so far ahead of time, they would have to know what they lookedlike

Is This The Hdmi Port?

I haven't read the whole thread I just stopped on page 5.
But I caughts my attention that until this page, am I the only one thinking that this could be the HDMI port on the MBP????

See the "HDMI" port on other device, of course it would not look like this from :apple:

i doubt that apple would do something that stupid to it's consumers. just wait and see what happens
Hmmmmm. They might if it meant they could make everything super duper freakin stinkin thin. I could see Apple making a bunch of adapters to make the laptop .3" thin and still be able to hook up peripherals. Thin is in at Apple.

i just dont think its a port at all. Apple would put all the ports together (that whole isnt a port its for the IR sensor). plus wouldnt the spy photographers take off the tape if it was a port?

True. But we're talking both these things on the MBP. The MB lacks both, I'd say, as only dedicated graphics should be able to power dual link (my guess here).
The MCP79 is supposed to be on par with ~Geforce 9300 to 9400 discrete GPUs. That's powerful enough for dual link by far.
What is the port that is needed to hook up a macbook/macbook pro to a cinema display? This will probably be my first mac but later on I want to be able to have a desktop/laptop combo hopefully with a cinema display. Thanks!

Full blown Dual Link DVI (currently provided by a full-size DVI-I connector on the MBP, not available on the MB) or a port that can be adapted to dual link (HDMI or DisplayPort)
The larger case appears to have space for a firewire (probably 800) spot, near the ethernet port We can tell it's not MagSafe
It's quite clearly not ethernet, so it can be FW800, FW1600 or even (would be cool) FW3200.
I simply love that these photos bring more evidence of no 16:9 ratio
Why would anybody suggest 16:9 laptop screens?

DisplayPort is also an option, and one that would probably be more forward-compatible:

But it raises the question of why apple would put a display port (be it HDMI or DisplayPort) at this place.

It isn't mini-DVI, it's too small.

You're exactly right. The port looks like Mini-DVI, but compared to the Wiki picture, Mini-DVI is Taller than USB, and in these pictures, they're the same height. Maybe Apple did engineer a Dual-Link Mini-Mini-DVI connector. Either way, they'll NEED to include adapters for whatever it is to appease the Pros, much like they include the adapters for the Air.

Hmm, I'm thinking there could be a HDMI port on the MBP. With the rumor that there will be Blu-ray drives in them, you would definately need HDMI for output. Then there is not reason for full-sized DVI only micro or mini. Of course, there will be new HDMI-equipped cinema displays to take advantage of this.:D

This is most certainly a DVI Port, look at the screw holders?

I have no idea! But there are several 16:9 fans in these forums who want to make love to the aspect ratio. These photos make the casing appear to be pretty much the same width and depth as the current models—therefore no 16:9!

I think you're dreaming. That has to be a MacBook not a Pro. The MacBook will NOT have ExpressCard expansion. Looks like Apple sold out..again!!!

No Firewire on Macbook and no eSATA or DisplayPort on either machine.

sell-out, why do you think apple sells out!!!!!! i mean geez, youre be probably be drooling over the next latops, like apple is a genius

I thought you could only boot a machine from a firewire drive. Am I wrong? I've been making bootable backups of my computer as part of my backup strategy.

If I couldn't boot and restore from one of those backups because the new MBs lack fw, what's the workaround?

Intel Macs can boot from USB2 or FireWire.

1-sided ports

Finally...the MBP with all ports on one side! Always hated having cables dangling out of both sides.

You get pretty much all the capabilities of full size DVI in micro/mini DVI - the only advantage is dual link (to full sized) and size (mini/micro). There is no lost quality. If there is no reason for full sized DVI, then there's no need for DVI, full stop.

HDMI won't be on any of the laptops till it is on the displays (probably not till at least MWSF 09). I don't know why they don't hurry up and just do it...

yes you are dreaming

i agree wit clu10.macbook neverhad express card.Thi is pics of Macbook not MBP.MBP will have one eSata, one Fw800 or3200 two USB 2.0 and DVI dual or Display Port.Nvidia chipser offers it.It is my opinion but i am sure.

You can boot an Intel Mac from a USB drive too, but there is as yet no USB equivalent of FireWire Target Disk Mode.

I thought you needed full-sized DVI for dual-link to power the 30-inch Cinema Display?

Makes sense for Apple to include HDMI on the new MBP now for the launch of new HDMI-equipped Cinema Displays at MWSF '09.
