DOCK for certain according to...! Firewire, Blu Ray, and 32 or 34HD Cinema Display!

Now guys, please take this with a grain of salt and please don't grill me on this, but I have a friend whose "best" friend is really high up at Apple. My friend knows I am a Mac junkie (and he is too) and asked a few questions after a few drinks last night.

Just got a message about that conversation.

ACCORDING to him, NO WORRIES about lack of ports or missing Firewire. According to him there is a new docking station. The MacBook and the Pro and POSSIBLY the next Air will have a way to connect EVERYTHING including BLU RAY and even a 32" or 34" HD Cinema Display.

The big surprises will be "connectivity" but no word if that is the "brick."

I am PRAYING this information is correct. I just cannot wait until Tuesday. For all I know, my friend's friend is really an accountant at Apple and is lying about it all - or MAYBE he's a really informed accountant.

I hope the price ranges allow ALL possibilities.

guys, calm down!

It's not even sure that these are actual real picture about the MB(P) case...
SO about the firewire... let just wait until tuesday before getting mad lol ^^

Exactly.. I said the same thing before. We are not sure that these photos are true. Right? So lets wait...

SO I can't buy the new Maccrook ? Instead I have to buy an old computer with a faulty video card for more money than the new computer, with better specs. All because Apple couldn't put 1 firewire port on their new Maccrook. They sell all this software ; Logic, Final Cut, etc that need firewire, yet they don't even support it themself ? Imovie is worthless now.

Now instead of for sure buying a Maccrook and probably being with Macs for a longtime, I'm at a crossroads. I was saving/holding out to buy a Mac laptop for a while and now I have to consider a PC no matter how bad Vista is. Apple used to market towards the creative artist and "act" like they cared about costumers. I wish they never released the Ipod-Iphone, personally. Now all they care about is raping people out of as much money as possible.
Have you ever seen one of these?

Are you going to attempt a defense of that horrible little piece of crap?

nope they are peices of crap...i love my little 15 dollar logitec mouse wireless...my mighty mouse sits unused on the corner of my desk that never sees light...i was just stupid enough to buy one

i'm the only one thinking that the MBP trackpad is going to be a glass screenhave 3 buttons on top?

1 for classic trackpad use
2 for dock use on glass trackpad
3 for glass trackpad widgets

Or whatever lime that on a glass screen trackpad?

wow those are bold statements...slightly believable though...it whould make sense to introduce a port station...a gen before suckin all the ports out of the laptops...

you are right it s not a mini usb but some video output.:p

I didn t want to be aggressive to the people that use left hand a only thought that having no ports on the right it is not something I like for a 1700Euros computer.....

i really hope they don't include firewire on the macbook and weed out all the whiners here from buying it so it'll be easier for the rest of us to get our hands on one.

I am going to be very disappointed if apple does not introduce a 12'' notebook.

It has been a long time already, long waiting and no cigar.

And I have to wait to see the final product, but I don't see anything appealing in those photos. No new technologies, no creative design.

Apple prodcuts were never meant to conquer the world, that was more a MS-PC philosophy.

Still hoping for something exceptional.

I'm also waiting for a 12" macbook pro since the day they switched to intel, the powerbook 12" was my favorite but no sings of it so far, i really dunno why the hell they introduced the air, if they don't introduce it this time i'm gonna use a hex-saw to trim down my 15" macbook pro

I have a friend whose "best" friend is really high up at Apple. ...According to him there is a new docking station.

Having all of the ports on one side gives credence to this statement more than anything else. I can't think of a single other reason for Apple to have configured the ports in this way.

Oh you magnifiscent bastard.

You do know they'll buy one anyway, don't you?

so the magsafe port is cut off in the pictures, next is the network plug and then comes firewire 800... why is everybody complaining there is no firewire on the new cases anymore?

11" widescreen MacBook Pro. Just big enough to hold a full sized keyboard, like the 12" PowerBook. Backlit keyboard, no lame-ass third-rate glossy screen.

It'll never happen, though, because Apple hates their customers and will never give them what they want ;)

i think they are talking about in the macbooks...im pretty sure those pics are of mbp

Trust me, they are. One of the worst mice in existence and it just keeps selling.

De facto proof that Apple could sell fecal matter in a white box and it'd sell.

I thoroughly agree that the mighty mouse is a colossal jewel of crap! The only thing I like about it is the scroll ball, but those thing stop working after a few weeks. Does anyone know of a mouse that has an equivalent scroll ball that lasts longer? I really love the 360º scrolling.

This is nonsense, either the 16/9 is as high as the 16/10 screen and therefore wider, or it is smaller (shorter) and therefore around the same width, but in any case this is unrelated to having a keypad or not.

On what ground exactly?

Wow I'm completely impressed.

Not.

No, 16/9 was already an established format when 16/10 got started on computers, and the computer industry is currently standardized on 16/10 for everything that isn't 4/3, even display ports capacities (such as HDMI or DisplayPort) are expressed in terms of achievable 16/10 resolution. 16/10 is already the post-4/3 standard. Note that 16/10 was chosen to allow the reading of two pages of text side by side.

Wow aren't you cool. Love that sarcasm. Actually, one reason for going 16:9 is that with the same footprint you *can* have a keypad, which does increase productivity for some. Consider:

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644588896&parentCategoryId=16154

Mind you, this laptop has a slightly bigger footprint than the MBP 17 so it's not the best comparison. But there is nothing inherently wrong with 16:9, other than your snobbishness. :p

If 16:10 is the new 4:3, then 16:9 could be the new 16:10.

Or 2.66:1, as someone posted earlier. Let's go whole hog! :D

This is the macbook pro case (see speaker grills). The complaints are about the macbook case which doesn't have the FW800 port

It's like shooting a college video project in 24p. It's just too cool NOT to do it.

16:9 seems to be a holy-grail for some. People think 16:9 is the best aspect ratio instead of 4:3, 16:10, or cinemascope for some reason.

It's because LCD producers wanted people to buy new TVs, so they brainwashed them to believe nothing that isn't 16:9 could be good enough.

Sorry if this comparison has already been posted - I can't get through all 34 pages before I have to get to bed.

Has anyone determined what type of video port is on the new MBP?
I thought it was Mini-DVI because of the shape, but it seems far too small as illustrated in this crude image:
MBPLate2008.jpg

The USB and minijack are pretty accurate despite the different angle, but the video-out port is much smaller than Mini-DVI and doesn't look like any other port I know (Micro-DVI, HDMI, Mini-HDMI, Display Port etc.)

Maybe I'm way off, and it is just Mini-DVI; if not, I hope whatever it is supports dual link.

Many pointed this out, but some people still manage to ignore it and insist it must be mini-DVI. Maybe your visual comparison will be more effective.

Remember just a few years ago when people lamented the demise of 4:3 screens in favor of 16:10? The purists were complaining about the loss of screen real estate for the same width screen. But who would go back to 4:3 now? Maybe the same will happen with 16:9, who knows.

I'm sorry, are we reading the same forum? The one where 12" PowerBook is mentioned in almost every thread? :)

161714.jpg

Can someone please tell me where the Magsafe port is on the MacBook Pro?

But I swear I've seen a photo somewhere is this thread that shows the inside on the new MacBook Pros, and I still can't see where the Magsafe plugs in.

Count the ports on the picture you mentioned. Compare with MB's, if it helps. It is there.

I don't know, having all my crap plugged at the right of the computer would mean having a lot of cable-mess there, and since I'm usually mousing right there when I'm on a desk with my 'book I'd be mousing in the cables, making things... painful.

That's actually my experience, too. I have a MacBook Pro (obviously not the new one) and never put the mouse into the left USB-slot, as the cable would interfere with my mousing around.
