This pic does not seem to have been reposted in this thread. It shows the security slot on the alleged MBP.

[Edit: Regarding the other pictures...] So do we think the 15" MBP will have 3 x USB? Is the other hole for a big screw?

I want one!!!

Whatever Apple releases, I will likely buy a MBP. My Alu Powerbook has served me well for well over 4 years now, and considering my usage of it, I will need FW ports, the 800 AND the 400, unless they provide an adapter with the machine to turn the FW 800 into two 400's, but 2 800 would be better, I have a FW800 external HD, and a FW400 audio interface, that both need to be connected at the same time...

For the rest, what ever is released, is never going to be ugly, or bad quality, knowing Apple, it will be a fantastic machine! :apple:

seems like the hole next to the drive is a keningston too?

I'm really impressed by how thin the new MBs look, pretty much as thin as they can be with an ethernet port. Good work Apple.

As the differences between the Macbook and the Macbook Pro continue to get smaller, i hope the price difference gets smaller as well, because at this point, wont we basically be paying ~900 more for uhm... a graphics card, 2" of screen real estate and um... speaker grilles?

lets see here:
Both Alum
Both Mag Latch
Both Multi-Touch
Both Back-Lit Chicklet Keyboard
Both Seamless
Neither Firewire
Neither Full DVI
Neither HDMI
Neither Larger Trackpad than the other

something strange is going on here.

I'm SO hoping that what we're seeing here is a 13" and a 15" macbook and that we just havent been fortunate enough to see a picture of the Pro...

the only thing tha could be worse than losing firewire, dvi, and any big differentiation between MB and MBP is if they drop the matte option.

I can see it now, steve jobs on stage "This will be our last go at making computers, so we're just releasing these notebooks we threw together last weekend for our oldest fans... HERES A TV WITH AN APPLE TV INSIDE IT!" "OH AND MORE NEW IPODS!"

please, dont disappoint me steve...

you can daisy chain firewire devices. Normally firewire HDD have 2 ports for this purpose.

So it seems like they are getting rid of Firewire altogether on the MacBooks...

Hmmn. If so they've lost one sale, right here.

I use firewire HDDs and a Firewire Focusrite Saffire audio interface. Not to mention on my Camcorder.

Not good.

Random speculation:

A 13" with the rumored black plastic shell, as the $800 entry level 'book.
13", 15", 17" pro lineup, all aluminum. Optional SSD drives on these models.:D

There's one possible explanation for the 12 SKUs. But I wonder, where does that leave the MBA?

I think they leave the 13 for the more portable Air and the Macbook goes 14 and the pro 16-18...

we will see...

I think the laptops are going to be tapered when they add the metal plate at the bottom. Just like the Macbook Air, the vertical edge around the whole computer is uniform but the metal plate that makes the bottom of the computer is what gives it its tapered shape. The similar is going to happen to the Macbook Pros and Macbooks by adding a plate either metal or plastic, although they are going to be less tapered. The Pro might get a metal baseplate, while the regular Macbook might get a polycarbonate bottom shell for better wireless reception.

Apple won't make their computers like a rectangle again. Just look at the iMac, iPhone, iPod touch, and Air and you can see they are moving towards a new design direction for this generation's computers.

a MB or MBP without Firewire 400? don't believe that!
without Firewire 800 is possible, cause that will go out of the market.
but a F400 is in!

Damnit Apple - why use Mini DVI - it can't power a 30 inch cinema display! I for one hope that Apple make these new MacBook Pro's worth the upgrade, or I will be heading off to the refurb store to buy one of the current models, as I'd like to be able to power a large Cinema Display in the future.

No Firewire on a macbook = They've lost me also. I have to have a firewire for my computer because I also use firewire hard drives, firewire audio interfaces, camcorders, etc. This is for my own personal work, school, everything. Bad move by Apple for me personally, and I don't think I will be the only one.

One of the rumours circulating was that Apple would include a Firewire 800 to 400 converter. At least I hope they do - I'm not paying £15 for a converter that I believe should come in the box (just like the Apple Remote)

EDIT: The MacBook won't have any type of Firewire.

tapered edges, ugh. I like the shape of the current mbp, more rectangular.

Anxiously awaiting the final design with everything on it.
I'm a bit afraid they made it even thinner, it can only mean: less powerful than it could have been or even hotter.

I wonder how much wrist abrasion this case is going to inflict...

For %#$ sake appreciate the beauty.... Nothing changes overnight and they consider all other options and then arrive at a Give'n'Take (balanced) solution.
