One of the rumours circulating was that Apple would include a Firewire 800 to 400 converter. At least I hope they do - I'm not paying £15 for a converter that I believe should come in the box (just like the Apple Remote)

apple is smart, they have a plan for everything.

Both Back-Lit Chicklet Keyboard…

how do you know this exactly? no one will know until Tuesday… but it will probably get it.

Neither Firewire…

the MacBook Pro will have Firewire 800 and 400 (maybe 3200 and 800) on the other side of the case which hasnt been shown yet.

also the MacBook Pro will have higher clocked processors and comes with a higher capacity stock hard drive plus the casing will probably be thinner and it has a longer battery life. but i see your point and hopefully the price difference will decrease.

...the only thing that could be worse than losing firewire, dvi, and any big differentiation between MB and MBP is if they drop the matte option...

Oh dear lord, that had not even occurred to me. I seriously don't know what I would do, I can't stand glossy screens.

I'm just really going to hope that that is not the case.

okay, its only been two minutes, but in thinking about it more this really makes NO sense.

MacBook Pro

PRO! PRO! Pro as in Professional, as in professonal photographer's who use firewire for all sorts of things. Pro as in professional musician who has all his equipment linked up with a firewire interface. Pro as in professional ANYONE who uses external drives at their maximum speed using firewire.

this is not right.

my guess:

Smaller apple notebook, netbook or sub notebook 10-13" potentially. Black plastic and alum two tone. This is the 800 dollar laptop.

Macbook- 13" and 15" (thats what we're seeing here)

Macbook Pro- 15" and 17" (we havent seen this yet)

think about this-
the $800 one comes in two SKUs- one base, one higher end.
the Macbook comes in 5 SKU's- 3 for the 13(same as now), 2 for the 15.
The MBP coms in 3 SKU's - 2 for the 15, 1 for the 17 (same as now)
and the Macbook Air comes in 2 SKU's- SSD and non SSD (same. as. now.)

two, plus five, plus three, plus two (at least by my counting) adds up to twelve SKU's.

please, please, please for the love of god let me be right.

The other small round hole on the left near the front of both designs: would this be a crazy place to put the IR sensor?

Hmmn. If so they've lost one sale, right here.

I use firewire HDDs and a Firewire Focusrite Saffire audio interface. Not to mention on my Camcorder.

Not good.

I'm praying there's at least one FW port on the MB. Otherwise no sale for me.

I can cope with using my external HD via USB2 but I don't have the option for my Echo Audiofire2 audio interface.

there is no way they are gonna release a macbook pro that won't power the dual link... Everyone just settle down.

I'm actually just relieved that that mystery port at the front isn't the DVI port... that would piss me off to have the DVI cable hanging off the front left of my machine all the time.

The nice thing is if all the ports are on the left again it means they can finally make docks for them again...

OOOHHHH or maybe the new macbooks and macbook pros can all be docked into the new TV they are releasing... HMmmmmm....

I'm afraid it has. There are two side photos showing the optical drive, one with a kensington slot next to it, one without. The one with the kensington slot must be the MBP, as pictures show it is on the other side on the Macbook.

If this is the case, what you see on the left side of these MBP pictures is it.

Looks like Apple has planned to nickle and dime people to death on purpose. Everybody will need to buy 5 different special converters from them just to get all their stuff to work. Probably at least $50 a pop. Their pricecut looks good on the surface, but they'll end up snatching up way more this way.

If these pics are the real deal. I don't get why they put all of the ports om the left. It gives as much cleaner look to have fewer ports on either side. I really don't like the messy look of left side of what appears to the new MBP.

Why would the Macbook not have Firewire?

When they released the Alu iMac they actually put Firewire 800 on it as well as 400. So they're adding Firewire ports to the iMac and taking them off the Macbook?

Comparing the Trackpad size/placement against the Spacebar and Command keys the new MBP seems to have exact same size trackpads as the current MBP. So the new MBP will have the same size trackpads.

It looks the bigger depth wise.

IMHO... Its same.... coz the Mouse Button occupies quite a bit of space there... And more thing.... Did anyone notice the MBP trackpad has some slot work in the trackpad window in the top area while the MP trackpad is all empty? Does this implies the trackpads will have different functionalities in MBP and MP???????

when it's on the side, you have to move whatever is on your desk next to it to access the drive, when it's on the front, it is considerably more convenient.

What specifically aggravates me about this should it be true is that they are willing to compromise on details like this just for an extra .1" reduction in thickness. I sometimes think apple puts far too much emphasis on thinness at the expense of functionality.

Some of the rumors are that having the drive on the side for the MBP would allow for a larger battery (and hence longer lasting) it would also make it easier for users to replace the RAM and HD. Similar to how you can on current MB's.

i dont mind glossy screens, i just MUCH prefer matte. Think about it though... macbook- glossy, macbook air- glossy, imac- glossy. At this point i really wouldnt put it past them...

I'm not spending an extra $1000 on a MBP just because it has firewire, when the MB is all I need but for some reason doesn't have firewire ?

Anyone remember this patent?

All the port are now on the left side of the MacBook's according to this article...

Coincidence?

I'd love it to be true!

How about merging this idea with ACD and The new TV Rumor :D

Cool, but not happening probably, though I wouldn't put it past them.

The 'enter' button has changed and both of the 'shift' buttons are at the same size now. Looks nice!

I noticed the same. I wonder though, on my current MacBook the second-lowest row of keys, the one with the Shift buttons, has 11 standard-sized keys, while the new MB and MBP only have 10 of them - so I wonder which key is missing. I supposed it's the left one, the one with the two arrows < and > - but where did it go?

But none of those are pro computers

true, but the iMac used to have a matte screen. They're going for the consumer right now, just your average "look at my pictures, send my email, watch some movies" consumer and that could end up screwing over a very large majority of us.

If what i predicted before is true, then on tuesday, will be blown away, but if the only notebooks we're seeing is this Macbook and this Macbook "pro" then i think we have alot to be worried about.
