Does this mean all hope is lost on the optical-drive-less MacBook? :(

Nope, its called Macbook Air.... Its been out there since Jan 2008.... Go get it before its too late.... Oh wait....
Now that you are awake from your slumber underneath that Rock.... U can get the newer ones may be on 14th Oct. :D

I'm afraid it has. There are two side photos showing the optical drive, one with a kensington slot next to it, one without. The one with the kensington slot must be the MBP, as pictures show it is on the other side on the Macbook.

If this is the case, what you see on the left side of these MBP pictures is it.

ah yes sorry i must have missed it. so it looks like it will just be Firewire 800 (or 3200) for the MBP.

Anyone remember this patent?

I'll tell you one thing for SURE- Mr. Ive most certainly didnt draw that.

look at those apple logos! ew!
:p

someone lighten the mood, quick, this is scaring me. (not the picture, just the general thought that the leaks really could be a macbook pro...)

Both MB and MBP seem to have an additional hole near the front left hand side - like a microphone or headphone socket.

Also the MBP seems to have an extra USB port, taped over in the photo, next to the mystery hole near the front left.

Kensington security hole seems to be next to the CD slot on the other side. [edit: for the MBP]

Pretty sure thats just a screw hole to hold casing in place

Ok this is to make it easier for me and others cause there seems to be some confusion on which photos are from which computer

#1 "Pro" or 15" MB

the idea of a half plastic Macbook makes me nervous..:p

It makes me nervous too.
If it is, I'm sure I'll like it more 'when' I see it, but It's still an odd concept.
My friend linked me this, which claims "New Apple MacBook Pays Homage to Silver Pandas". PANDAS?!

ah yes sorry i must have missed it. looks like its just the optical drive and Kensington on the RHS. so it looks like it will just be Firewire 800 (or 3200) for the MBP.

I guess that's not too bad a thing given that fw800/fw3200 is compatible with fw400. Hopefully they will provide the pin converter.

but there's no firewire on the Macbook ? Only the Maccrook Pro ? Yay for having to spend an extra $1000 for a feature that a $50 laptop would have. Apple are a bunch of crooks. Or they want everyone to buy their special apple converters for $250 a pop or something ?

OK now I'm sure the big one isn't an mbp. It's a 15" MacBook. All the ports om the left side make no sense on an mbp.

i hope the chicklet keys are aluminum on the mbp. i could dont give a flying **** about the regular macbooks. just hope the mbp is all aluminum, including chicklet keys and display housing.

dont want black plastic chikley keys unless the bezel is black to match.

i cant wait until tuesday. thank god for football sunday and mnf.

Some thoughts:

Screens: I don't mind glossy now I've lived with my MB. Might be nice to use 14" screens with a smaller bezel and have 16:9 ratio, and LED backlit.

FW: Please let one of the ports be a combined fw800/400. Audio interfaces and cameras are FW... You could argue that's a Pro feature. Photographers loved the 12" PB. A small Pro level laptop is then necessary. Musicians loved the small PB too (myself included). Signs of a small Pro? Too much overlap with alu MB?

Trackpad: the bigger machine has a smaller pad with more supports. Signs this is a glass pad like a sunken Touch? The smaller machine si the MB with a Air-style pad.

Does this mean all hope is lost on the optical-drive-less MacBook? :(
No, because the cases may (though unlikely in my opinion) be fakes. Or no, because it's a new magical form of firewire that happens to have an optical-drive sized slot.
AKA Probably. People who want an apple netbook will tend to purchase the Air.

What do you think the chances are then of Macbooks being updated, and MBPs not?

I don't think that's very likely what with the spot light turning to 'notebooks' and all, not just MacBooks. What I think is more likely is that whoever got these photos only got to take pics of the new MBs and not the MBPs
