You have got to be kidding me on this one, there 3G has been crashing for the last 3 weeks in my area, and sending MMS messages ? Rate hikes going into effect in June.

Give me a "REAL TURN BY TURN GPS" application and I'll be ecstatic

Uh...3G crashing is AT&T's fault, not Apples and they have all the capabilities to make a "real" turn by turn GPS application with the new 3.0 SDK.

Apple had a lame event, but let's wait until WWDC before we make a judgement. This is an advance preview, so I have a feeling a lot more is coming. They're only showing what developers need to see... not everything that will come. This way competitors wont have all this extra time to copy. Be patient... if this is the final release, I will join people in their rage.

copying? Who's copying? No offense, but most smartphones already had these features.

hopefully they will update the itouch then and give us a camera, blutooth and gps.

i should start another "gainstown macpro" thred like Tallest, for the iTouch haha.

Well then don't let Apple limit you or let AT&T take more money from you and jailbreak. I have a feeling that even in a year if they did the same thing the same people would be complaining, it's the same argument with Snow Leopard dropping PPC support, sure it sucks but those are the cards your dealt (from Apple) and you have options, so make a decision, you didn't buy the iPhone to send MMS so don't whine just because others can do it and you can't.

EDIT: BTW, you can jailbreak and unlock your iPhone, iPhone 3G users can't do that but I don't see many of them complaining.
Sure I know all about jailbreaking and what not but its about the others that arent all that computer literate. A lot of people bought the original iPhone in hopes that they would eventually include a software update to send pictures. Apple did good on making more money from the original users but as a customer i think i should have been able to do that without having to buy another unit

I thought the same thing as the above poster...who is copying who here
R.gif alt="."

Does implementing a feature in an easy to use and intuitive way count as "copying"? Especially when it is more of a standard feature.

Can you copy a standard?

Touch screens? successful 3rd Party App Stores? A device that increased mobile web surfing by a significant percent?

Which smart phone had all of this again?

EDIT: oh and an easy to use music and video player that uses a computer based program that many use.

I really think that's a stupid reason to buy an iphone, in hopes of what it might have some day? That's like saying I bought my iPod Touch in hopes that it might have flash some day. Even then I've had my iPod Touch since Feb 2009, realized it lacked some of the features that I liked so I found out how to do the untethered 2nd gen jailbreak (no GUI) and put emulators, copy and paste, and background apps on it, it really isn't that hard and even easier for 1st gen iPhone owners.

why does it still have the lock screen

I think what you should be asking is why don't they have an option to disable the lock screen? The lock screen does serve a purpose, otherwise I would as well be asking why they still have it, but some people don't like it so they should be able to disable it if they don't need/want it.

Because thats a basic function to prevent accidental useage......why wouldnt it be there?

So I can turn it on with out having to go through slide to unlock. It would be nice if I can turn that function off

edit: heh masternile beat me to it

Should we mention that every single touchscreen phone (that ive come across anyways) has a similar mechanism (in the case of my sisters phone, a very sad copy).

I think that video must require some hardware modifications. I bet when the introduce the new hardware for June that video is a feature for that model (and not previous models).
Ever think that maybe Apple is simply withholding video simply to give people a reason to want/buy the new iPhone? Claiming it is a "hardware" problem for the previous models? Hence the reason they didn't update the camera on the current 3G?

May not be true but it could be.

Are you talking about the lock screen or the option to disable the lock screen?

I would not be suprised at all by this, it could be that it will use the processor too much and drain the battery and as we know Apple doesn't think people can make their own decisions so rather than give us the option they don't allow it at all.

How is that stupid ? Isn't that the point of having something thats updatable ? So that if you think of a great idea 6 months down the road that it can be added ?

The lock screen. It seems most (if not all) touchscreen phones have some sort of mechanism to keep you from accidently using the phone.

So it seems like its there for good reason.

You dont buy things off the idea that a certain feature MAY be added when you have absolutly NO info pertaining to it.

to be fair, i did as well

i mean thats the whole reason to have a touch screen to begin with

granted you are right but also alot of folk arent dummies to see what the potential is either

for instance, i can see myself watching many a hulu movie on the iphone. that would be freakin sweet

HAHAHAHA...

I just traded my iPhone 1st gen for a BOLD. A week before APPLE drops this...TALK ABOUT TIMMING!!!

I can at least justify my TRADE to a BOLD by saying..."it was 1st gen...i would have had to upgrade ANYWAYS!!!"

I can't wait till summer...

BTW

with the new push notification does that mean that it will push all email accts or just mobile me accts still?

what a great day!!

Why not wait until they enable the feature you want? Future updates I view as a bonus on top of my purchase, not something I require otherwise I would have got something with that feature.

Sure it works and serves a purpose as I said, but not everyone needs/wants it so why not give an option to disable it? Because once again Apple would rather tell you what you want then to give you options.

maybe it's a good idea for the phone but for the touch it would be nice to have the opportunity to disable it

Also I would have like the option for more customization. Changing the icons, deleting icons, etc

Oh well can't have everything but overall I think it was a great update and I can't wait to see the accessories that come out after the release of the sdk. Gamepad? Keyboard? :D
