Not to rain on all the United States people's parade, but couldn't this just be apple updating the price with the recent changes in the dollar to euro conversion rate?

Not likely, prices of all iPods were already dropped with the recent 1GB Shuffle price drop (minus 10,- Euros for the nano and minus 20 for the classic). At least in the Dutch store, but I'm suspecting the other EURO-zone stores as well.

The arrival of the new MB and MBP's was also accompanied with a 200,- euro price drop.

Might this Touch pricedrop mark the end of the iPod classic?

You are completely right, if you buy a product for [insert price] you pay for what you think is worth it, so no matter if the price drops the next day, you bought it for what you thought was worth it.

It's just business don't whine:confused:

Yup. In one thread, everyone's complaining: "[insert product here] hasn't been updated in MONTHS! Charging [insert price] when it doesn't even come with [insert feature] is totally unacceptable. Everyone else has [insert feature], and they're hundreds cheaper too! If Apple doesn't get their act together, I'm buying a [insert competitor here]!"

So Apple releases an update with better features and a lower price, and.... everyone complains. "This is an insult to everyone who bought an [insert product here]! How dare they reduce the price! I just bought one yesterday and now it is totally worthless!"

We could do Apple Mad Libs. :D

SSD prices are dropping. It makes sense for Apple to drop the whole lines again prior to WWDC and any possible 3G iPhone release.

well i really hope this is true for the iPod Touch and iPhone. i really feel that they are both overpriced right now

It's not just a feeling...;)
Maybe this has something to do with Intel coming into SSD maket...
Anyway, this is a good news (rumors) indeed. Let's just hope everything will be ready in June, with v2...

Then and only then, we shall rule the World again... Mooohaaaahaaaa....

Can Apple actually drop the price? I figured they'd come out with some lame accounting excuse explaining that they can't drop the price for whatever reason...

Untrue, this only counts for updates, it's the law you can't sell a device for say 200$ and then software update it to worth 300$. Therefore they have to ask a fee. With iPhone they do not because you pay a monthly fee to AT&T. That's why iPod Touch upgrade costs money and the iPhone does not!

Nice, if this is true. The ipod touch is an amazing thing. Its probably apple trying to move people to buy the higher-end ipods as the market for the lower end... already have ipods. I'd consider buying one at that roughly £150, my 1st generation nano is due for an update.

They (probably) will...
They will drop the price for the unit but then you will have to pay accounting fees to get the softwares, sdk'ed 3rd party applications, version 2 and futures updates...;)
[/sarcasm]

but no kidding, I really hope the rumor is true...

Couldn't be an adjustment for the new exchange rates per chance, could it? You know, $1 American = a small pack of peanuts?

Don't be silly, 32GB is still not 160GB. And it's not nearly enough for my 80GB of music. The Classic will live a lot longer then you think!

You know, I used to totally agree with this. I had a 40GB fat boy for a while to hold all my music, but it finally wore out. I have a "antique" 4GB iphone now, and it manages to hold the majority of the stuff I want to hear, plus a few podcasts. If you get to be mildly clever with your smart playlists, you'll notice that you'll have what you want in that tiny space. At the end of the day, you can't really listen to 80 GB of music between charges, and I personally can't think of a situation where I was missing a particular song.

At the current Euro/Dollar exchange rate, $299 *is* 199 Euro. Maybe they are just starting to adjust prices for the weak dollar.

Most countries in europe pay a high amount of VAT on products compared to the US.

How about Apple just eliminates the silly charges they have for firmware updates for the iPod Touch. I think everyone would be quite happy and impressed with Apple if they did.

I hope so! Also it could be clearing out house for a new version. With at&t selling the refurbished ones and if you look at the history of the ipod, there was an update model on average of once a year. The refurbished ones are tempting to purchase but I want to be there on iDay 2 to purchase V2. Nothing like bragging rights, that is what i say.

Isn't it possibly a typo form the UK version of the ad? Could it not be the same person who designs the site buttons for both UK and European stores?

True. Same things happened to me. I had a 40GB a while ago and now I have a 30GB which does a more-than-decent job. All my music is on my computer and, surprisingly, I found out that I could easily live without the whole pack in my pocket.

Unless I get struck in an airport for 12 hours... But even then, the battery will die before I could get to "M"...

Plus, let's face it, my collection keep growing since 2002, so the problem will arise sooner or later, no matter which iPod I get...

My point is that a $499 price point for 32GB is way too expensive but the 32GB limit wouldn't be a hold-out for me (anymore).

Why don't you look it up first before blaming Apple? It's the law mate Apple HAS TO.

How about Apple just eliminates the silly charges they have for firmware updates for the iPod Touch. I think everyone would be quite happy and impressed with Apple if they did.

Maybe it's because I have only 1GB on my Nano. I ALWAYS have songs I want on my iPod but they don't fit. I just want to have choice, I can't determine the day before tomorrow what music mood I'm in. That's why I like to have a wide choice for my several moods. That's why I think more storage will be there for while. Also when I play music on party's just with my iPod I need to have a lot of music on me.

You are correct my friend!

I would love them to release a touch model with a hard drive with larger capacity. My collection is way larger, LEGALLY!, and it would be great to watch rental movies on a bigger screen.
