"Gas prices are soaring..."

In the UK we're at almost $10 a gallon. We should all get free iPod touches from the government from all the taxes they have raised. :D

But you should demand that your government find ways to reduce the price of gasoline, just as the out of power political party here in the states said they would do when they asked to be voted into office and now that they have been voted into office and have been in power for over a year, oh wait, they haven't done a d*mn thing about it! Heck, they aren't even bad mouthing high gas prices any more precisely because they are in power!!

But with the oncoming government rebate check in these hard economic times, we can go out and buy our iPod Touches...

The iPod Touch 8GB for 199 euro is 314 US dollars. It already sells for $299 in the US.

This looks like a European price drop to me not a worldwide thing.

But if i'm wrong it's gonna tick me off more than I already am. I purchased a second one last week from the refurb store for $349 and now AT&T has them for $249

Heyy, so if I just got an iPod Touch 8GB from Target 3 days ago and the price drops maybe next week, is there any chance of me getting the difference?

Not a big deal if I can't, This is the best mp3 player I have ever owned and it was worth it.

Newsflash! Except for removing taxes (rofl, and how often does a gov. do that?!), there is nothing the gov. can do to reduce the price of fuel. Oil and gas are bought and sold on the open market. If anything, you're generally paying a more 'fair' price for gas than most other things you buy.

WUT TEH HELL! I CANT BLEEV DIS. I BUYD MAH IPOD TOUCH LIEK IN SEPTEMBR, AN NAO THEY DROP TEH PRICE? Well said my good man!

Bring those prices down and with 3G later on AAPL will hit that 10million number easy :) If they drop down a little I might be able to get my dad to buy an iPhone

Untrue, this only counts for updates, it's the law you can't sell a device for say 200$ and then software update it to worth 300$. Therefore they have to ask a fee. With iPhone they do not because you pay a monthly fee to AT&T. That's why iPod Touch upgrade costs money and the iPhone does not!

That doesn't make any sense. Your use of the word 'worth' is what breaks the excuse. For example, what is an ipod worth? If I add a new app does that suddenly make it 'worth' $20 more so I have to charge for that update? But how can that be if the same ipod is selling for the same price I bought my ipod for? If you want to believe the accounting excuse fine, but don't use 'worth' or value anywhere in the argument.

Maybe the Dutch Apple store is making up for the fact that the AirPort Express is not updated to 802.11n yet.

The Express has been updated already, but it's not listed in the store as such. If anything, they're making up for the fact that AppleTV is still 299€, while it sells for only 229$ in the States.

Gimme a break with the all the its for the slow economy crap!

It is probably a matter of € vs. $. 199€ equals 314$, which seems a reasonable conversion if you take tax into account (which is added to the US price, is my understanding).

The current price is 279€, which is an insane 440$

I don't understand how this stuff works but I noticed when the Iphone came out in Austria or wherever the price was like 400 euro, thats a LOT more than the price here in dollars. You would think Apple would be nuts to sell stuff here in America when they can get so much more selling in Europe. If 200 euro is 300 dollars then that makes total sense why would you sell a touch for 500 dollars in Europe if its only costing 300 in the States?

Oh BTW id like to give a shout out to the Federal Reserve for devaluing the money in my pocket at ridiculous rates. Thanks guys!

I wonder if this price drop affects euro-denominated iPods only and not for products sold in dollars here in the US.

At the current exchange rates, European prices are seriously unjustified.

And the English say Americans tainted the language...

I think they keep the prices up to keep Macs exclusive. Converted back, the MacBook should sell for 669€, which is even less than most PC notebooks with worse specs.

It's a joke ;)

I think the Touch could be getting a $50 price drop to $249/$349/$449, which would make prices from €199 sensible for Europe.

It does make sense. If you buy an iPod for 300$, you have justified that price for yourself, if you thought it was to expensive you wouldn't buy it. So you think the price is right for what you get. If the price drops after you bought it, that doesn't change that you once thought that price was OK for it. It is now cheaper but doesn't change that moment before the drop.

I think we have to pay 299€ because the Apple TV in the US is subsidized because of the rentals? I think when we see rentals the price drops here in The Netherlands too.

Europe has higher VAT (do you even have any at VAT in the US?) and the market for these sorts of things is smaller in Europe i suppose. So they probably do make more, but only a small amount - even though it seems like a lot.

Oh please... It IS a lot!!!.
For you 17 inch MacBook Pro model you pay:
2799$

We europeans pay:
3945$

"but only a small amount - even though it seems like a lot"
Sure:rolleyes:

Oh and it fact, while you pay 1999$ for your cheapest MacBook Pro. We pay 1799€ (2840$).
Do you know that for 1799€ we could get the most expensive MacBook Pro?
So we pay the same amount for the cheapest here, and you pay the same for the best.
Do you understand the frustration of Europeans?

Just to get things straight, Canadian Apple Store (which I believe is in North America) has higher prices than the American Apple Store and the dollar is pretty much 1 for 1 (I think)... Plus, they don't even have iTMS Rental Movies and iPhones... Sorry guys ;)

So I'm having a hard time believing that it only a matter of adjusting European prices...

(BTW, they have taxes too... something like 15%)

I'm kind of upset about this, just because of the money I spent, and now I am going to get an iPhone.

So far these rumors are only at iPod touches, and the 16GB i bought came to $422 even, plus the software upgrade that I got was another $21. So people will be getting my ~$440 device for like $300? I am not going to say things like "apple sucks, i hate them, blah, ect.." I am just kind of upset that if this happens I probably won't get any reinbursement when I spend thounsands at the apple store each YEAR..I mean this year alone I will end up getting an iPhone, and another macbook on top of the iMac, and iPod touch, plus the other laptops I have ordered for other people.

I am really regretting my decision as a touch owner and not an iphone owner I just feel neglected. But as soon as I can I am selling the touch (and blackberry), and getting an iphone.
