Newsflash! Except for removing taxes (rofl, and how often does a gov. do that?!), there is nothing the gov. can do to reduce the price of fuel. Oil and gas are bought and sold on the open market. If anything, you're generally paying a more 'fair' price for gas than most other things you buy.

Newflash! Not news to me... just being sarcastic!!

Remember when Republicans were in power and gas prices were going up, up and up and how some Democrats held TELEVISION NEWS CONFERENCES in front of gasoline stations griping about the high prices and how they are huting the "little people" and how the evil "Big Oil" is in price collusion and the government isn't doing anything about it because President Bush is an OIL man himself... Then they get into power and what do they do??? Hold investigations of big oil and find that in fact that oil companies are not in cahoots with pricing but in fact market prices were determining price.

Oh yes, the government can do somehting... Policticians can show leadership by admitting that he USA (among other industrialized nations) is an OIL based nation and economy and the government can disavow the viewpoint and threats of the envrionmentalists and put forth efforts to find more oil within the USA and not be so dependent on outside sources and build more refineries on government owned lands to avoid the "not in my back yard" mindset, as to refine the oil once found and therfore increasing the supply over the demand and thus reducing the oil speculation every time something happens in the Middle East and thus reducing the price. And no amount of energy conservation or alternative fuels like wind, solar, natural gas are going to power that jet airliner, cruise ship, Amtrak train or your favorite automobile or truck. But it's not going to happen, especially anytime soon, so let's all prepare for that $4 buck a gallon national average for gas in the US! And pray that it doesn't go up to $5 or $10!!

Oh and it fact, while you pay 1999$ for your cheapest MacBook Pro. We pay 1799€ (2840$).
Do you know that for 1799€ we could get the most expensive MacBook Pro?
So we pay the same amount for the cheapest here, and you pay the same for the best.

There are two obvious issues, 1) The American Prices exclude tax. 2) We all speak different languages, not just English, and we all need different keyboards.

At American prices $1999=£989, then with VAT that is £1162. The difference between the UK and US price is then £137 which isn't as substantial.

Easy on the caps! It is a little hard to read...

I don't understand how this stuff works but I noticed when the Iphone came out in Austria or wherever the price was like 400 euro, thats a LOT more than the price here in dollars. You would think Apple would be nuts to sell stuff here in America when they can get so much more selling in Europe. If 200 euro is 300 dollars then that makes total sense why would you sell a touch for 500 dollars in Europe if its only costing 300 in the States?

Europe has higher VAT (do you even have any at VAT in the US?) and the market for these sorts of things is smaller in Europe i suppose. So they probably do make more, but only a small amount - even though it seems like a lot.

The closest thing we have to vat is state sales tax.

oh, to be an apple fanatic...
Well, with a price break coming on the Touch, there'll just have to be a drop all around. I just spent over $1000 on 2 iPhones on February 23rd (3 weeks ago) for the wife and I. I have no problem with the price drop. Sure, I would've love to save $200, but them's the breaks. I felt that $499 was a good deal, especially since the phones just double their space to 16GB. I had been holding out for either a new model, more space or a price break. The additional space came out of the gate first so we bought at that point. Anything that Apple needs to win market share and the hearts of the consumer, I'm for.

This would be great. We can all use more for less money. Then again this maybe to keep the factories going during a bad economy or it could be clearing the inventory for the next model with 802.11n and maybe (cross fingers) 3G.

wow... I never even noticed that my touch was only g (not n).
How's that for paying attention?

who needs N in an itouch? How fast is your internet connection? oc3? G is plenyty fast for about 99 percent of the average joe... am I wrong?

I use n on my laptop when I'm at home (god-awful work PC for which I've purchased a belkin pre-N card) and while you're right that it doesn't improve my speed to the internet, it does give me much greater range, and better speeds when I'm in obscure parts of my house. (e.g. at the downstairs desk with a brick fireplace between me and the router at the far diagonal end of the house.)
So N would be nice. Not the end of the world without it tho'.

Remember when we were in a war that we had no business belonging in and spent 3 trillion dollars (of borrowed money) on it for nothing and then our dollar became weaker than the canadian dollar? Oh wait, thats right now.

Part of the reason prices go up is because our dollar isn't worth **** right now, thank dubya for that.

Dollar compensation?

:confused:Since the dollar is in the tank ($1.56 to 1 euro), 199 euro is $310 so it doesn't drop the price if paying in dollars.

NOT TRUE - price now corrected

The Dutch iTunes store now shows the normal price of 279 and has corrected what appears to have been a graphic error. The actual Dutch Apple store (to which the ad linked) never showed the 199 price.

Might be nice if this is true, but doesn't bother me much if it isn't. I've decided I'll hold out until a 64 GB Touch hits $400. I already assumed that would be at least another year from now, but if this price drop is real, perhaps it'll be sooner. Either way, I expect my current 5th gen to last until then.

Now, if only they'd offer a reasonable data-only plan for the iPhone, I might consider one of those instead (when it hits 32 GB). Would be nice to have the internet stuff available anywhere, not just in range of WiFi as on the Touch. And besides, who the heck wants to waste time talking to people?? ;)

I notice the difference between N and G on a computer. However, I doubt the touch's processor is fast enough to notice the difference. N would also up the cost methinks, so G is good enough for a pocket device.

why dont their computers get price drops? They been same price SNCC they switched too intel at least the MacBook and MacBook pro? At least I think correct me if I'm wrong

€1.00 = $1.50

so possibly this is just the euro prices being (finally) adjusted!

€199 IS $300

why should we be paying €80 more??? OK, allow a bit for sales tax...
