Please explain how mono is a "magical new way to experience music." Stereo was groundbreaking in the 60s. Along with streaming and morons listening to music through their phone speakers, another step backwards for music quality.

I still don’t get the premium sound angle of this thing. Seems like a basic speaker that could handle Siri responses was all that was necessary. It feels like “crap, we got beat to market so we need to come up with something to make ours different.”

Yeah... judging from @ayale99 comment. AirPlay 2 won’t be ready when HomePod ships.

I don’t see why Apple would release it if it can’t do multi-room.

One thought, omit multi room so more people are able to get it in their homes.
Say 10000 avaialble. If multi-room is available perhaps 6500 homes would have home pods.
If multi-room isn’t available, perhaps someo for multi-purchase people would opt just to buy 1 and add on later.

Definitely have to wait to see it in stores.
[doublepost=1516716721][/doublepost]Know Apple would never do this, but it would be nice to see a HomePod mini, like the Amazon Dot or Google Home Mini.

what does the the HomePod give me that the Echo doesn't?

A much thinner & lighter... wallet.

1+ of these with an Apple logo on it. Need I write more?

Something new to buy from Apple right now.

If you are willing to get up in the wee hours, the opportunity to be among the first to claim you have one on order.

Ideally an original post but more likely a "me too" post that shows yours is being shipped about as early as any are being shipped.

The potential to get to be the first "unboxing" post.

The potential to possess Apple's complete product roadmap for the next 2+ years.

And then, via the "just one software update" spin, the potential to raise the dead, heal the sick, cure cancer, make you a zillionaire, make supermodels battle to be your mate, give you immortality, etc. Just wait for the update... but buy now.

All ;)

Joking aside: Apparently Apple has made some new efforts to smarten up Siri for this product. So we might get a smarter Siri. And the new brains might be able to transfer to the other products that have Siri too. If so, that's an indirect benefit that HomePod gives all of us whether we buy it or not.

You can use AirPlay with Spotify correct? You can play Spotify through a Bluetooth speaker correct? If you can do either of those things then you can play Spotify from your phone through the speaker. I don't understand why people demand that Apple, who has their own streaming music service, must support all other competing streaming music services in the same way on their high end audio device.
The whole damn point of smart speakers is their use of voice recognition though...

That's one way of looking at it. Or another way of looking at it is they're releasing a product which is only good for 17% of the market. Yeah, that sounds like a great strategy. I think this'll only sell modestly, it's never going to sell as well as the amazon echo.

Apple is kind of forced to release HomePod now because they boxed themselves in announcing holiday 2017 release then having to delay it and updating the release to early 2018. They couldn't push it back further or the product would be DOA for sure. As it is now it's a beta product for the extreme fan-boys, the ones that won't buy any other Lighting cable other than Apple's.

Well, I doubt it would be DOA if they pushed it back. I think it would of been better if Apple announced that it would be released sometime in 2018 instead of boxing them in for early 2018.

I have a Google Home speaker and I recently purchased some Libratone Zipp in anticipation of AirPlay 2... I’m not looking to purchase a HomePod, I’m more interested in AirPlay 2.

And they were right about iPads and smart watches.

Are you kidding? iPads have sold like a quarter billion units and revolutionised the tablet market.

Smartwatches are still at an early stage in their life cycle. If we compare them directly to iPhones, we'd still only be on iPhone 3GS.

This is a no no for me. Already have surround sound, don't need to yell out SIRI to get information.. I can look at my phone/watch/ipad/appletv/macbook. Not to mention the price is just to high, but this is Apple we are talking about here. They can slap their name on toilet paper and people will pay a premium. No new Apple products for me until I see some software updates, hardware.. been there done that.

EDIT: Just realised the page has been updated since I opened it, there's much more information there now.

Available on the 27th in Australia - assuming because of Australia Day. And A$499 - surprised, I was expecting $549.
