HomePod preordering

Also patiently waiting. Can we read anything into the reason why they haven't disclosed a time? Scarce supplies perhaps? A two week lead time to delivery also pretty rare, no?
 
Thought I would try another chat with the UK Applestore whilst we wait. It took about 5 mins for someone to be available - guess a lot of people are asking the same question today! They are still in the dark...

It will be available for pre-order at some stage today.

We don’t have an official time for when it will be available unfortunately.

Nah, mate, it's already launched here. We even got the option to order a clear one, so you can see what's inside.

Mine has just arrived (by flying car - Australia is in the future, after all.)

Well, Apple did say it had an A8 inside!

It's even localised a bit for Australian conditions. You can say, "Hey Siri, get us a beer would you, mate."

Doesn't do it, of course, but does sometimes respond, "Would you like to play a game of knifey spoony?"

It does seem odd that there isn't a time for the HomePod to be released, maybe because Apple are not expecting a fanfare they don't feel the need to like they usually do with the iPhone and so on.
 
Are people actually staying up for this? because to read most of the comments on this forum it won't be selling very well.

I agree i'm not hating on it I'm planning on buying a few for my house but to read people's comments on this forum it's a dead product that won't sell and so on, the same was said about the Apple Watch you're right about that, i brought one and have never looked back.

Same was said about the iPod, the iPhone, the iPad, the Apple Watch.

Users on here also said Apple Pay would never catch on, Apple Music is DOA and Touch ID was a gimmick.

Most people on here are not good understanding what a good product is until they use one themselves.

I would be will to bet that Apple will be offering a cheaper Pod soon just like Amazon's Dot. Might be 6 months but they will, not everyone is willing to pay $350 for a device like this. This could not replace my Sonos system!

I'm not so sure, the HomePod is about the sound i can't see them making a smaller and cheaper version if the sound isn't as good.

The HomePod IS about sound but that does not mean that Apple will not capitalize on users who do not need it as a speaker or want to pay $350. You can bet Apple will have a $100 Pod out within a year. Why miss that market, does not make sense! The DOT sure made sense for Amazon as it is their top seller!
 
I’m also waiting and considering replacing my Sonos system. Sonos makes great hardware but they have completely screwed up their apps over the last year. I’d be happy now just to use AirPlay and Apple Music.

$100? I’d wager it will be $150... $100 difference between the HomePod and the HomePod Mini.

Obviously, the sound of the HomePod Mini will not be up to par with the HomePod, but it will have better sound compared to the competitors in the market space.

Same here. I think this will be a phenomenal product. Classic Apple design. I like that they’re putting something out that’s their own take, rather than rushing to put out a me too product in the same price range.
