We used these when I was a kid:

This is the 2G version.

As others have said, it would probably be best to get as much money together as you can and ask again....whether through a job or not

I do think a lot of people are throwing rocks at glass houses with the big bag "Stop leeching off your parents" talk since I am sure many here were bought and given many things by their parents. I know, I know...some will say they bought everything, etc....right

When I was 2, I worked 3 construction jobs just to earn the money to pay for formula. My dad said I shouldn't have waited so long so I could have helped out with the pre natal care. Dads, sheesh...

its alot more satisfying paying for things you want yourself as opposed to your parents as you will then appreciate it more

Absolutely. I never had a cell phone until I was in college which I bought myself since I worked and went to school at the same time to pay for my Out-Of-State education.

I understand people wanting to see younger kids work for their gadgets.

But, I just get the feeling everyone is ganging up on the poster when they themselves were given things (not saying the EXACT same thing nor the EXACT price) at a young age by their parents. I grew up in a very middle class family but there were times my parents spoiled me here and there with something I wanted.

It reminds me of a 3GS thread the day it came out where several posters starting ranting at another who said his father wouldn't get him the phone. Those several posters talked about how the parents don't have to get them anything, etc....only to find it in another thread....that both posters were teenagers themselves who had their parents buy them the phone.

show him how much you can get for it by selling it on eBay/craigslist unlocked. i'm sure he will be surprised since the 3GS will probably end up being paid for ;)

I want to upgrade my iphone to the iphone 3GS and my mom says I can get it but my Dad says NO WAY.

What should I say to him to convince him to let me get it?????

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks! :)

I am not going to say get a JOB like the other 50 post, lol. There are other ways of making money :) I really think you should get off your dads back about upgrading though, he is there to father you not buy you stuff.

I'm not sure if you have a 3G, but the way that I convinced my dad to let me upgrade was by unlocking and jailbreaking my current iPhone 3G and selling it on eBay to recoup some of the price of the upgrade. Just a thought for you.

Tell dad to buy the phone but you'll take care of the 30/month internet.

Dad pays about 400 for phone, but you pay for data per month for the next 2 years which is 720.

People say it does almost daily here

Not sure why that would be a big shock

Hell, you been here during release day?

I guess I should have made a better statement than that.

My reasoning is that a kid who is clearly not at a point of financially responsibility should be making such claims like that to their parents. If the one perceives the difference between a iPhone 3G and 3GS is one that would make a significant improvement of one's life, they have a lot bigger issues than a phone would solve.

Working toward independence and self-sufficiency is a better plan (in this case and in general) than trying to find better ways to manipulate your parents. You'll be happier and so will they.

If your parents give you cash or something , save up and buy it yourself and ask them to split up the monthly fees or something.
Else , get a part - time job !

I use to all ways go the angle of saying " this is the last gadget i get i promise this will be it" of course it was never it lol:cool:
