mcdj said:If you are young enough that your parents are deciding on, and paying for your iPhone, and if you already have an older one, then the one you have is good enough, period. Kids these days seem to think they are entitled to every single gadget that comes out, then every version of the gadget. Today's youth has no concept of saving or sacrifice. As others have said, if you must upgrade, pay for it yourself.
Why should we "help him" convince his dad he needs something he doesn't need?
All it's going to do is encourage him to badger the father again next year when the 4th generation phone comes out.
I'm not suggesting that we encourage him to badger his father. No one really bothered to ask the situation or why the OP needs the phone before 20 people flamed him/her. The constructiveness of the 10 or 12 comments that were actually constructive are overshadowed by utter rudeness. I agree the OP did some things that would warrant responses like this, but it seems like whenever someone mentions the fact that they are a kid on here, all respect is lost and it's field day.

What makes you or anyone think that it's a kid. There are plenty of 20-30 year olds that still live with their parents. But perhaps that's another issue![]()

+1! People's selfish attitudes make them not want people younger than themself to have things they "don't deserve". That said OP, you REALLY should pay for it yourself. That's why I did with my life's savings. By the time the 4G comes, I'll have saved enough to get it.
What do you have now? 3G?
I have regular black 8GB iphone 2G
There have been no 8GB black 2G iPhone. It's either a 3G or aluminum backed 2G
While I understand your point... And some users def. pointed out, what you earn is much more important...the following, were...yeah,We all know that there are plenty of parents out there who simply shower their kids with gifts in an effort to show them "how much they love them".
There are lots of these kids living near me. Kids driving around with $60,000 cars and iPhones. Half of them seemingly got this stuff because daddy started screwing the secretary, divorced mommy, but wants junior to know that daddy loves him the mostest (so daddy leased junior a new BMW)!
I think many of us are simply trying to make the point that something you gain by whining will never taste as sweet as something you worked hard for and saved up for.
Tell him: "Like mommy totally told me I could dad!! You're being a boogie face!"
Then run down to Apple and get your new iPhone 3GS.
The OP can't post right now. Daddy put him in a time out.
Maybe he means second generation. It gets very confusing, for sure...
