I usually drive at 70-80 mph on the highways and pretty much the speed limit around town.

Something tells me this thread will never approach the greatness of this one. :D

Oh, that thread. Always good for a laugh.

I also generally drive around 75-80 on interstates, even within the city. It's Atlanta…that's the speed we drive. I think the limit is 55, but I'm not sure.

On a large surface street, I'll generally drive 45-55, up to 60. On smaller surface streets, maybe 35. On my neighborhood street, I never go above 20.

Residential neighborhoods? Mostly, a tad under the limit, always looking out for little kids or little old ladies backing out of a driveway. Otherwise, in town, I run with traffic.

Highways? Five to eight over, unless I really know the road and where the cops hang out.

I've never gone faster than 150 on a public road--and that was only for a brief period. But my IROC outran a Vette from Valentine, TX, to Marfa, TX, at 140. And I made the 77 miles from Alpine to Terlingua in 44 minutes, one Sunday afternoon. :)

On limited access highways...as much as it takes to get to 80-85mph. This, of course, is modified based on weather, road conditions, and traffic.

City streets and small state roads, about 5 mph over the limit...no more.

The same when driving in Mass. In NH, I keep it to about 4-5 mph above the posted limits since there are speed traps and unmarked cars everywhere. Of course they love to pull over Mass drivers so NH drivers don't have to worry as much :D.

Well, so much for my driving in NH!:p

My radar detector helps, but with instant-on radar...I'm dead meat!

2 to 10 km/h usually in the city, depending on time and numbers of participants, thus I drive faster the more participants are there and the nooner it is.

On the motorway I usually go between 120 km/h and 180 km/h, but that again depends on the time and numbers of participants.

In my car I flow with traffic. If roads are pretty clear, I'll say around 60mph on main roads and around 40mph on back streets. On clear highways 70mph and up.

On my motorcycle, heavy traffic or open road .............. bye bye everyone, I'm gone. :D

As usual, threads like this are fairly useless...

It all depends on the skill of the driver, the driving conditions, the state of the vehicle being driven, what's being driven and the prevailing speeds of other drivers, as well as the absence or presence of law enforcement and the ramifications of being pulled over. Plus, some people are more "law abiding."

Around these parts, the *average* speed on some highways exceeds 230,000 furlongs per fortnight...

I've been up To 210km/h in a European built car... The jeep liberty maxed out at 175km/h before it slowed me down

10mph over, unless I'm in NY. They love to pull over NJ drivers so I stick to the speed limit up there.

Not just NJ drivers think New York don't like out of state drivers generally. Only ever had three speeding tickets all in upstate New York between 2010 and 2011 on the way to Canada and always with CT plates. Did the same drive many times between 2005 and 2009 with New York plates never stopped once.

I drive at most 5 over. The speed limit is 75 mph on the highway near my house. For the two times I have gone to San Antonio, I did five over on the 85 mph toll.

Actually, in my last car I hit 120 once, but never again.

Generally, most of the time, I set my cruise control to the speed limit. I don't like to rush around so I always leave with plenty of time to be where I need to be on time.

Plus, it's less expensive this way. For relatively short trips, speeding isn't worth it to me. The time saved, considering several factors, (distance, speed and traffic) is usually negligible.

Then by speeding, you're using more fuel which translates into added fuel cost, lower fuel economy. You risk being stopped by law enforcement and written a ticket which means more cost, then your insurance will probably go up which is yet more cost. It's just not worth the added cost, stress, and hassle to me.

The only time I see speeding as potentially worth the risk is over great distances where one could, if able to avoid the LEO's, can shave hours off their travel time.

Freedom speed

But actually, normally about 70-80, because everyone does anyone, if we are talking highways.

In residential areas, I always stick to the 25mph speed limit because hitting a kid wouldn't be good.

Must be nice to live in a low traffic area. I do 50mph UNDER the speed limit on the freeway during rush hour.:p

If there's no traffic, then I usually drive the speed limit. Keeping the kids safe outweighs getting some where 5 minutes faster.

Do most of my driving in the big city. I am sometimes lucky to be able to go as fast as 10 MPH BELOW the speed limit.

I wish the public transportation system was better where I am at.

Speeding in residential areas is just ****ing stupid and reckless so isn't worth discussion.

On the motorway however, is it such a big deal to exceed 70mph if the road ahead is clear enough and conditions are OK? Of course if it's dark and raining then be cool, but otherwise most cars don't even break a sweat at those speeds.
