Interesting that many will be getting their keyboards and pencils, after the 14 day return period.

I'm just saying...

It's not a 14 day return period, as we're in "Holiday Return" policy now. I believe you can return all the way up until beginning of January.

It's not a stylus as we were used to in the past.

The Pencil is to mimic a writing device input only - Not do all the navigation on the display.
Lolz You actually buy that marketing spew?

Well done apple for inventing the stylus that isn't actually a stylus. I'm sure in a few years time when the "pencil" can access the notifications etc they will sell it as a feature.

That would have been my plan but a glitch said it was available to pick up in store, but the store called and said it was a glitch and that I just have to wait or reorder online with the 3-4 week wait.

I raised a little hell about this in the Manhasset store earlier today. I ordered the iPad Pro, the Pencil and the Smart Keyboard. I called and asked what the holdup was and they said they don't know why I didnt'get a confirmation to pick it up. Then he got back on the line and said that my iPad Pro is available, but the accessories are not. He is going to cancel my entire order and he can do me a favor and have it shipped to my house for my inconvenience. I asked if this put me back in the queue at the end of the line, even though I ordered at 3:04 AM and he said yes, but we ship it to your house, isn't that better? I asked if I could pick up the iPad Pro since it was there and had my name on stand was told sure. When I showed up, she could not release the iPad as the entire order had to be confirmed for pickup. She, like the rugrat on the phone, said "We were just about to send you an email about the problem." I told her how unfair it is for those of use that preordered at 3:00 AM to be put in line half a day behind other preorders. I was told that once the items come in, she will call me and will hold the Pencil and the Smart Keyboard. I heard they will ship later next week. This was just as bad as the Apple Watch launch.

I was upbeat to get the iPad Pro and then found out that the Pencil is not available for 3-4 weeks. WTH?!!

The ONLY reason I want to get the Pro is because of the Pencil. I'll just wait till the Pencil is out. Hopefully by that time T-Mobile have the iPad Pro for sale and I can take advantage of the JUMP! program.

That's exactly what I'm doing. However if I find a place that sells the Pencil sooner, I'll buy it quick.

That really stinks. I've learned the hard way from other preorders in the past to order the device first and separately on its own order number now. Then order each individual accessory. So I have an iPad Pro and a Smart Cover waiting for me tonight but that darn Pencil is showing shipping between Nov 20th and Nov 30th. Ugh.

They should've let you take the iPad Pro at least. :(

I ordered mine this morning with the keyboard and pencil and to pick it up at the store. I received the email that I can pick up the ipad pro but no mention of the keyboard or pencil when I checked my order status, it said they had both been cancelled. I was mad, and called Apple. They looked into it and found that a store worker had cancelled them because they had run out. I received no notice about this and told them I still wanted them and was told that they store said that when they get more in, they will hold them for me. What a joke, when I placed my order, it said I could pick it all up today.

That's an interesting insight. Thanks for sharing.

So Apple stock up on the Pro but NOT the Pencil and Keyboard? I would have thought that the KEY selling items for such a large iPad is the Pencil and Keyboard. Apple even provided these for Pixar employees to get feedback on the Pencil feature, so they would know that the Pencil will be a favorite item.

I eventually was able to walk out with the iPad Pro.

I thought the same thing earlier this morning. Im waiting to buy the whole thing pro+ pencil. Hopefully the stores get them in stock this weekend or next week.

I called to see if there was a Pencil on display at my local store, was told two things by the rep:
-The store didn't even get one Pencil to use as a demo model (oops).
-They're expected to be available to buy in store by the end of the week. Wasn't known whether they'd be available to order for pickup, or in-store only.

As usual you can't be sure about what CS reps know vs. what they say, but thought it was worth mentioning.

They should have just shipped enough to match iPad numbers, but clearly Apple had no idea what to expect as far as the Pencil's popularity. I suspect they are essentially just taking orders and doing some JIT wizardry. A lot of you probably will get them quickly. Those of us like me who still haven't ordered, on the other hand... :(

If they get stock, should be enough to cover the holiday buying season.

Trust me. Once they get stock, even people who walk in will get them.

At least this go-round the apologists have remained quiet. During the Apple Watch launch many defended Apples "launch day availability" to "they didn't say every watch would be available did they? They are doing such a great job with such great demand." This is the same exact problem. The absence of many of the watch bands made many mad. I order the Space Black three minutes into the pre-order frenzy and I was among the first wave to receive it...two months after my wife got her Stainless Steel Milanese Loop. The Pencil and Keyboard was this a great purchase because it is just and iPad Big at that point without it. They made sure whenever we saw one of these things, the Pencil and the Smart Keyboard were mentioned. This was the Surface killer, right? There is no excuse it wasn't released. There is further no excuse for the most prominent tech company in the world to tell me that my order is ready for pick up today and only one of the three items are actually available...anywhere. I was told by a manager of the web orders that NO PENCILS OR SMART KEYBOARDS went out. This notion of constrained supplies is garbage. I am not asking for a huge freebie, but absolutely nothing was offered to make anyone feel better about the cancelled orders. I was told that they were supposed to send out emails immediately but nearly everyone had their entire orders cancelled, including their iPad Pros, without the courtesy of the notification by email. Those of us lucky to get the Apple Store staff to address the issue have put us on a secret list that will, hopefully, hold the accessories for us and they will give us a phone call when that happens. I have been promised numerous emails and phone calls about this very issue, they have yet to deliver. I am not very optimistic about getting the Pencil and the Smart Keyboard ahead of anyone that had it shipped when it eventually ships out.

I asked them about this ... they basically said there is a very slim chance. If they do get them, they will go incredibly quick with the very short supply they would get.

I have a date of ships 5 - 7 days and the manager said there is a better chance it shipping to me before they get em.

The employees were rather shocked that there was no pencils besides demo units. In fact most of the employees didn't even know they would have the iPad Pros until this morning.

I seriously doubt it's an issue of Apple under estimating demand. It's more likely a manufacturing or parts issue.

Well frankly after Apple Watch, Apple TV 4, iPad Mini 4.... I'm quite used to the screw ups at the Apple Store. Now that I've come to expect it, I'm less phased by it. I recommend others do the same - you only get yourself stressed and your stuff no sooner if you get too angry over it. :)

Well I guess we will see what happens. Ive waited this long I could wait a little longer. When I was about to place my order it was at 10- 20 days for delivery so waiting another week or 2 wouldnt be a problem. They obviously had some type of shipping/ supply issue for both the pencil and keyboard to not be in stock at the stores.

Yeah, sapphire tips are the problem, the manufacturer couldn't produce on time, and the liquid metal in it had conductivity issues (unexpected)... Etc etc... /s

It is just a pen man...
