I used to get by on a 512kbps broadband connection. My usual ping (I only play on local servers) was in the 30-60 range. Most games are playable, just don't expect to be a good sniper in TF2!

Now I have a full unlocked 50mbps Infinity connection (9mbps up). I get around 9-20 ping now, probably slowed down a bit by my wifi. Really don't need these kind of speeds though!

I pay for 10Mbps and get pretty close to that (rarely drops below 9). Upload speed is around 0.7Mbps. Got to love Virgin Media cable broadband!

When I was living in college we got around 80Mbps! However, there was an unofficial understanding that you wouldn't download more than 2GB per day.

from home, I know i can get about 3Mbps down, but I'm always throttled down to about 1Mbps thanks to crappy Comcast

For the last 6 years, my internet has been some slow "line of sight" wireless provider. Too slow to watch YouTube, or download anything larger then 20 MB without waiting for an reasonably long time.

Last week, for being with them so long, they gave us a free equipment upgrade. Now it's actually possible to watch youtube if you give it 30 or 45 seconds at the beginning of the video to load ahead a bit.

Interesting

Thanks for this thread, I had never done this before and tried. Not too impressed with my speed in St. Lucia (would always want more) but it works and keeps me connected to work in the states.
