so far have one nick in the side bezel, dunno how I did it, been very careful with it.... but o well

Had my white IP5 naked for the longest time. No scratches, nicks, blemishes of any kind.

But I knew once I get that first good drop (It will eventually happen), it's going to be bone crushing. So I just slipped a slim TPU case on it and can't be happier! :D

Still pristine black iP5, flawless out of the box, totally naked when in use

- try my best touching / holding it with clean & dry hand
- put it inside a cloth pouch when it's in my empty pocket - put it on the top outside of the same pouch in the table / desk when am using it (without holding it)
- slightly bumped it (by accidents) a few times against desks/tables/doors/some hard objects, no damage whatsoever
- I always gently take it out / put it down at the table, screen up
- it's been a week now constantly using it
- In few months, I won't be as careful / gentle as above, lol :D

Is it worth having to be paranoid all the time

Mine looks brand new still except for it falling and having a minor scuff on the back at the top of the band. Other than that it looks great. I have a black one btw.

Ugh, I was going naked and decided to try a case I saw in Best Buy today by Seidio. What a nightmare. It was too tight, ruined my Ghost Armor and then could not get it off. If you want full story, I posted it on my blog.

Going naked is much better.

Case Mate Barely There or Incipio Feather.
Minimal, protects the back and sides. Still can put the ph in a pouch or pocket NP.

Black still like new. Been naked but just ordered the Barely Th. Case Mate improved them for the iPhone 5.

One small spot wear the black anodizing has worn away on the bevel just below the volume button. It's easy to see if your looking for it but doesn't jump out at you. My phone was clean flawless out of the box. I noticed the worn area around day 4. A week or so latter no additional wear. I take sensible precautions with my iPhone like not putting my keys in the same pocket and not sliding my phone across my desk but I certainly don't baby it. I'm not adverse to a little bit of wear as it does not, in my eyes, detract from the look of the iPhone as much as a case would.
Nice report.

I'm with you. I prefer not to use a case, screen protector or any skin. With just a common sense approach & a litte care all my Apple Laptops, Pads, Pods & Phones stay in excellent condition. Of course the laptops keys get shiny, something that doesn't bother me in the least. It's like the beautiful patina on my ten year old Coach leather briefcase.

Besides, my Macs are my tools for accomplishing the work I do. I've never classified them as fine art :D

I haven't used a case for any iPhones I've owned (and I've owned alot). Whenever my phone gets a scratch that 'annoys" me, I just go to the Apple store, give them a fake problem, and they give me a new, scratch-free phone. I have every intention of doing this with my 5 should it get a bad scratch on it. Yay for scamming the Apple store!

Had a black iPhone 5, completely bare and held up nicely for 2 weeks.

Replacement white model thus far great, less fingerprints showing, but still NUDE! :)

I rock my phones bareback just like in the bedroom! :D (monogamous relationship ftw.)

I have a chip on my black/slate on the corner near the power button. Not happy. I have a dedicated pocket. Never with keys or coins. It's flawless otherwise.

I noticed I have very tiny chips below the power button on the slate as well. Hard to imagine that I did that but oh well.

Already dropped it and got some of my own scuffs, I can already tell I'm gonna be using my Apple Care+ in the future.

At some point, will we get to use the Applecare if the phone starts chipping bad? Its hard to imagine that slate is so delicate.

Depends. Some people seem to have more delicate black/slate units than others it seems. Mine held up fine while I had it, but some people here are having discolorations and imperfections show up for hand moisture/oils and everyday wear and tear. :(

I suppose if the phone doesn't show damage anywhere but that area, Apple would exchange it. I haven't dealt with exchanges and Apple much.

My flawless beauty has been naked since I brought her home and she is still flawless. When I go out, I do slip her into a case to protect her from bumps and bangs and pocket lint but at home, she is the way Apple created her. I never set her down flat, she is usually standing (propped) on one of the business card holders that I have or she's in my hands being used. If I were to set her down flat, it would be on a protected surface, say with a piece of cloth or something between the iPhone and the actual surface. She looks great and performs brilliantly, so I'm happy.

How does your wife feel about this? About turning an “it” to a “she”? :p

My iPhone 5 has yet to get a scratch and has been out of a case or screen protector since launch.

I am still looking for a decent bumper case for it so that it does not lay flat on its face or back but I cannot find one that feels like a Apple bumper where the rubber feels like rubber and it does not raise a lot off the screen. I have a i-BLASON bumper but it feels weird on the phone.

I may never get a case this generation. My iPad G3 has just a Leather Smart Cover and a ZUM SE Ultimate and my iPod touch G3 has a Speck Candy Shell

Haha, done this a few times. The good old "intermittent" problem that, unfortunately, never seems to appear when they test it. That's the nature of intermittent :)

This is my first time going naked with an iPhone. This phone is just way to beautiful to put a case on it. I find that setting it down on the glass is the best idea when putting it down on surfaces. The glass is a lot less more scratch resistance then the aluminum casing on the back and a lot easier to clean without getting scratches and rubbing things in.

Same for me, and no problems so far. That said, I know a dent or scratch is inevitable. I will probably be somewhat relieved when it happens, sort of like the first scratch on a new car...mad for a while when it occurs, but then you get over it and (mostly) stop worrying about it.

went without a case for the first week and got tired of being super careful so i bought a super slim clear snap on case on ebay for it but the phone is still in perfect shape :D

I get the feeling from your post that you are after some flaming ! :D

Yeah... but now... replacements from the Genius Bar might have a bigger scratch than you went in with....
