Took me about 16 months ... just got it. I usually try to get one in a day.

Edit:
<----- Seems to be messed up right now :)

It takes a few hours to show up in the forums. Right now we just see the link for it, but the avatar itself will be there soon. :)

Congrats on making 500! :D

I had my account here and I was linking articles on MacBytes before I stumbled upon the forums.

I never knew search did that.

Joined Feb 9th; made 500 on Mar 30th, so that's what 50 days?

I hit 5000 on Sept 9th which is actually really crazy consider my average is going up; and this is from posting legitimately.

Not there yet. :(

I've been here for years, but I'm barely half way to an avatar. I feel like I'm trapped in a dream where I toil away forever and never make progress. :(

A few months I think it took me to reach the right number of posts, and a few days later I remembered I could now get a avatar so I set it... Cant remember what the first one was.

63 days must be some kind of record. I wonder if anyone has done it faster than that.

Whoa. OK, that really must be some kind of record. Do you ever sleep??

5 or 6 months. I thought that was pretty quick but there are some n00bs here who have gotten an avatar shamefully fast.

Oh my, I joined 6 months ago, to the day, and I have 2,076 posts (11.28 posts per day).

500th post on May 4, 2008, 43 days. Take that, Red. :p

Shucks, t'wern't nothin'.

But MadJew has nothing to fear from me.

I'd encourage you, but I'd feel kind of slimy doing it.

I wonder who holds the longevity record (for taking the longest)...

I'd like to nominate member J@ffa, who joined MacRumors in July 2002 and earned avatar rights with post number 500 only 2 days ago. That's more than 6 years!

Haha, hello all! Doctor Q was kind enough to point my infamy out to me :p

The reason it's taken me so long to get to 500 posts is that when I first signed up here, it was to subscribe to a keynote updates thread (or something like that). After that I basically lurked for aaaagees, only really reading comment threads for stories. I eventually noticed how often these forums came up when I was troubleshooting or looking for info about this and that and I started posting regularly in the last, ooh, year or two? Anyhoo, it's great here, but I must run — time to design an avatar!

Nice to hear from you, J@ffa. You and SwiftLives (see teeny tiny post above) certainly deserve your avatars after such long memberships!

I'm still a ways away from mine. I guess I joined over a year ago and only really lurked while I was in college because I was constantly doing things. Now that I have a little more free time and the need to relax, I post much more often and consistently.

Took me 9 months and 19 days. I began posting a month before I made the big switch from PC to mac with daily questions, and now I hop around the thread answering similar questions for newbies. And I had my avatar option within moments of hitting my 500th post. The "Twilight" thread referenced in my signature was in honor of the 500th post and that's why my avatar is related to it as well.

Thank you. I've been kind of lurky since I first joined in 2001. Earlier this year I just flat out decided it was time to participate a bit more. Avatar envy is a dangerous thing.

In all honesty, I didn't have an avatar planned out for my 500th post, so I sort of panicked and took a quick picture of my dog. My dog likes the publicity.

^ Is that a dachshund? <3 They definitely love the publicity, which is strange considering they also love burrowing under blankets and stuff. :)
