Can someone explain to me how AppleCare+ isn't a ripoff. It costs $99 for the coverage then another $50 dollars to fix it, totaling $150 dollars if you damage your phone.
Isn't that the same exact price you pay for replacing the screen on the phone without AppleCare anyway?
No actually it's still costs $100 for each replacement which is half of what it used to cost, plus you get 2 year's AppleCare out the deal which in the past was $70 (?), so in turn each incident is only $65 assuming you need to replace your phone twice.
Breakdown:
$100 for AppleCare+ limited to two incidents
$50 deductible each incident
$100/2 = $50 cost of each incident prepaid
$50 half of AppleCare+ for each incident + $50 deductible = $100 for each incident.
I assume you would still have regular warranty after those two incidents, so in turn:
$70 for AppleCare without accidental (no longer offered)
$30 extra for the +
$30/2 = $15
$15 extra for AppleCare+ each incident + $50 deductive = $65.
Price for out-of-warranty repair:
$200.
This is a form of insurance. Apple is betting on the fact that most people don't go around dropping their phones all the time. So you're making a gamble on your own phone for the same deal.
