If you cannot sleep easy and worry about paying a few hundred dollars for an out of warranty replacement then you have bigger issues and shouldn't be buying an iphone to begin with.
$99 for applecare and $79 deductible to get a replacement iphone its $178. Versus $279 paying for a replacement at Apple. So if you're really worried about $100 that much then most likely you have other bigger problems than that.

I purchase AppleCare+ not for the + part, but for the AppleCare part. Ever since Apple discontinued regular AppleCare for Mobile Devices (iPads, iPods and iPhones), you can only buy AppleCare+. Whats even worse is you only have 60 days to add AppleCare+, so when I tried to purchase it for my brother's iPhone a couple weeks ago, it couldn't be done even though he was constantly told that he could add AppleCare within the first year. Honestly the + part it worthless to me because I always baby my phone, always use a case and always use a screen protector.

iPhone 5s out of warranty replacement has been $269 for the entire year.

Apple only changes OOW replacement prices once per year when the new generation iPhone comes out (bumping the others down).

Incorrect. The 5s has never been above $269 for an out of warranty replacement.

Oops my bad. I'm still curious to see if they change it because the new phones are bigger and more expensive to produce. I doubt it though, the replacement cost has been the same from the beginning IIRC.

I didn't purchase Apple Care on my previous 3 iPhones, (3GS, 4 and 5), and I never needed it. Given the larger size and cost of a 128gig 6 Plus, I'm going to purchase it this time around.

I'm on AT&T Next. No point.

12 months from now I'll have an upgrade and still be under factory warranty.

AppleCare is MUCH better than AT&T insurance. AT&T has a huge deductible, not even worth it.

VZW uses Asurion and im sure ATT uses the same.

Deductibles:
The iphone 6 is $169.99
The iphone 6+ is $199.99

I agree apple care is cheaper in the long term, but short term its not horribly off. $10.00 month, plus deductible. The important thing to remember is that the carrier insurance also covers lost and stolen. Not just accidental damage.

I always get AppleCare. I have never regretted it and it has always paid for itself. It is the most hassle free warranty out there.

I always get it on my phones for peace of mind just in case. I am super careful with my stuff, but another year and then 2 years of accidental, makes it worth it for me.

Perfect example of where this helped,
Few weeks ago I realized my IP5 was under the battery replacement program. I had a few nicks in it too and wanted to sell it (Also ATT would not unlock it). I went to Apple store and because I had AC+, they just replaced the phone on the spot no questions asked and no deductible.
I then went home and called ATT and let them know this phone was through Apple directly and asked to unlock. They quickly unlocked and I got a good penny for the phone that was fresh and unlocked.
So the buyer got a pristine phone that was unlocked and was happy with the price and I was happy that it was a painless transaction.

I then cancelled Applecare on the phone and got a $50 refund back. All in the world is well.

I generally don't. But I think this time I will. I've actually had to replace my iPhone once since I started out with the 3G. Since it was under a year, Apple replaced it free of charge.

Bought Apple Care for both phones; got burnt with the iPhone 4 sleep/wake button. This is likely to be a 3+ year phone (if it lasts that long).

nah. With AT&T next 12, I think I'm good. I've managed to never crack one screen (dozens of glass screen'd phones) or drop them in water. Never used a case on any phone.

Now that you said it you're doomed.

Apple is giving iPhone 6 owners 60 days to purchase AppleCare+..... Just a heads up if you didn't know.

Not if you break the glass or drop it in water. I think that is the major reason people buy AC+.

I have carrier insurance. That plus Next 12 month upgrades negates the need for Applecare. In 5 years I've filed 2 claims and both were for my wife...

She now has a lifeproof case so I have that solves that problem.

Is this really a quesetion? There's absolutely no reason to not get applecare.

Sure there is. I've never gotten Applecare on any device (4 iphones, 3 ipads, 2 MBP's) and never had an issue. Seems I saved about $900 which is reason enough for me.
Also, I can afford to replace/repair it if something should happen. I understand the appeal to those who can't. Insurance is a relatively low cost hedge bet to cover the cost of repair/replace which would otherwise be a large financial burden. My bet is that I won't need it and so far I've been right except for that one time when some bastard stole my phone but that wouldn't have been covered anyway.

Those things can still get water in the phone and are so flimsy they won't keep the screen from breaking and I know from experience. Lifeproof, or any other case for matter, is not a replacement for the piece of mind that AC+ gives me.

I have always bought the smaller capacity iPhone, had a case for the 3G but rarely used it and hadn't purchased AppleCare+ for any of my Apple products over the past twenty years until now. The iPhone 6 is much larger than my 4S, I went with the 64GB and think that it may be smart to buy the protection and an Apple leather case. I may not use the case very often but it's a little added protection when I'm traveling.

I've gotten AppleCare+ on all my phones as long as they've offered it. Getting it for the 6+ as well.

It paid off the most for me on my iPhone 5. It's been sent in for repair/exhange a total of 5 times, between my ownership of it and my significant other owning it after me, for everything from batteries to a bad home button, to a bad sleep/wake button, to my cracking the screen once.

The iPhone 5 has replacement programs for the battery and sleep button. Anyone, even if out of the basic warranty period, gets their phone replaced for free.

Apple has upped the cost for the 6 Plus for repair. $129 for a screen replacement. $329 to replace the phone from water damage / etc. I got Apple Care this time around. Worth the piece of mind especially with our giant new phones. Its like walking around with a plate glass window. Just a matter of time until I smash it. :)
