The iPhone 5 has replacement programs for the battery and sleep button. Anyone, even if out of the basic warranty period, gets their phone replaced for free.

The issues I had were long before any such programs were announced. There were also no replacement programs announced for the home button which failed. And when I cracked my screen, well, there's never any free replacement program for that. :)

So in my case, Applecare has been worth it.

No.

In my view, the high deductible and premium doesn't offer a compelling value. For those buying the full outright, using an Amex (or, equivalent CC) offers 90 day full accidental/theft protection, and extends the manufacturers warranty by a year.

This is enough for me, especially with Amex's customer friendly and hassle free claims process.

AppleCare+ provides repair or replacement coverage, both parts and labor, from Apple-authorized technicians. Coverage includes the following:

Your iPhone
Battery1
Included earphones and accessories
Coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage,2 each subject to a $79 service fee plus applicable tax

Do the earphones and accessory replacements count as an incident and is there a deductible? They cost less then $79. so I doubt it unless it's reduced.

First time ever getting Apple care on an iPhone. Didn't when I pre ordered the 6. But today I went to Apple and finally got it. AppleCare will become my screen protector and case :)

So I'm still not clear--

If you do NOT get Applecare, and let's say your screen cracks, or your phone gets lost/stolen, how much is it to get a new replacement?

Guys rule of thumb. Just take your damn money and get apple care. It will save your ass in the long run.

Felt like being honest hehe

$129 for screen replacement. 329 for phone replacement. Full price if lost or stolen.

Never bought it. Never damaged my phone and I don't expect this to change.

So with Applecare if your phone is lost/stolen you end up paying $600+?!

Thanks! Not sure why everyone frowns upon carrier insurance then (AT&T $7/month for example)? $168 for 2 years compared to AppleCare that is $100, right? Carrier insurance also covers lost/stolen. I do understand with carriers the replacement ($199 max that cheapens over time) is likely to be refurbished. Still, that $199 sounds better than $329 or full price of phone!

Costs aren't that far off if I'm understanding everything correctly.

I never had AppleCare for iPhone/3/3GS/4 until I bought my iPhone 5. Then my battery gave up the spirit and it was replaced free. Now that there's an official program to replace 5 batteries, keep in mind that the 5 is misbehaving again and the battery will have to be replaced again. So, I think it was worth it.

how do i purchase applecare plus on the apple website? it requires that you purchase the iPhone at the same time but i already purchased mine through verizon.

With all the reports of cracked screens already - I think I'm buying AppleCare on Friday and removing the Verizon insurance

This will be the first time I have bought it /had all iPhones since the 4s - had one issue with my 5 / it found its way to my front load washer

I'm curious here as well. If my lightening cable is bad, it will just get replaced, right? The $79 per incident is for the phone itself, right? Anyone?

Correct. The accessories are generally walk in and walk out service. Well at least in my experience.

Shattered my 3GS screen, but i never broke my 5 screen in 2 years. My 5 has many problems, from broken vibration switch, to broken lock button, to broken home button, and depleted battery. Got those fixed at a 3rd party repair shop, but the quality wasn't very good.

The 6 plus is a much larger phone, so I can see myself dropping it, but it is more about the extending the hardware warrantee for me. It seems with every iPhone i get, the battery wears out, or the home, lock, or vibration switch breaks. So $100 for me is a good deal to swap out my phone when those break, hopefully I won't have to use the two accidental damage claims.

Bought AppleCare+ last night for my 6 Plus. Especially since I got mine on launch day, I expect there to be a few problems, because my phone may have been rushed at the factory

I confirmed this when I picked up my phone today. Accessories are fully covered. No limit and there is no fee. Just go in and they will swap them. I've gone through 2 power cords and one set of earphones over the last 2 years. Applecare will be worth it if I have to do that again.

I think most of us here are more trusting of Apple than of our carriers.

I've never gotten it and probably never will. Seems like a rip-off to me. The only thing I've ever had to have replaced is the screen and that was cheaper than AppleCare plus the deductible. So far I've never lost, destroyed or had an iPhone stolen and I've had one since the day the first iPhone was released.

I got AppleCare+ for my 6+. some of the best protection $100 can buy. Though the one con is that it doesn't cover loss or theft.
