Yep... noticing that one day in a list I had a the time was when I decided well if that's how it's going to be maybe just skip reading specific threads for awhile.

My own experience has been that in threads in which one is a participant, or those one is at least temporarily quite interested in following, it can get much harder to follow the thread after awhile: you don't see ignored members' contributions but the flow of the thread to relevant subtopics and back to main topic can start to seem incoherent, when in fact it may not be all that drifty.
I do like a game of Exquisite corpse now and then. :)

Actually, occasionally a necro thread gets revived, and that is when the realisation dawns on you that a number of individuals who had posted there had been suspended.

1 or 2, mainly because no matter what the argument is about, they always spin it in favor of Apple no matter what. So I prefer not seeing their posts so I don't waste time. I don't like ignoring anyone to be honest, but these cases were just too much even for me.

And the two people who hijacked it to argue back and forth never fully realize that 99% of those following the thread have tuned out and you are the only ones left bickering.

Some of those who had offered strong temptation of the reach for the ignore button type of temptation seem to have been suspended in the meantime.

I can think of one person who I said would be most likely to make my list, and who I find to be powerfully obnoxious both in their sheer volume of posts and in their relentless attempts to belittle others who disagree with them in a multitude of different sub-fora on that site. Amazingly enough, that person seems to get away with a lot, and I've never seen a post of theirs that I reported removed...

Only one? Hah... Most of us have at least a mental list of a few such characters unless we don't get around much in here. Try the iPhone or MacBook Pro groups sometime, you can make a pretty good list just spending half an hour in there.

... and I've never seen a post of theirs that I reported removed..

... which should probably tell you that you're maybe barking up the wrong tree in considering their posts as having bent the guidelines too far.

If we don't want to be flat out censored here then we must reluctantly sometimes settle for not being able to flat out censor... even if it's OBVIOUS that some people need to be shut up. /S

I'm not saying just roll eyes or use the ignore button rather than reporting posts you feel are over the top. I don't do that either. Mods appreciate our reports even if they do end up deciding not to take action. Among other things our reports can alert them to possible confusion over what some guideline actually means. Then they can take it out to Site and Forum Feedback for discussion if they want to let us explore a guideline update or at least air our feelings about how some rule seems not to be consistently applied.

Yeah I fall for thinking it's a current thread...

and then think wow they let him back in here?

And then "All right!" or else "How is that even possible"...

Which gives the lie to a couple of my recurring thoughts, namely that the mods are too hard on Apple fans in the gear threads and too hard on liberals in PRSI too. They seem to be pretty even handed about the rules over time. They just don't follow my instructions often enough. How disappointing. I love it when there's proof people are being unfair to my archetypal heroes.

None. As frustrated as I can get with PRSI sometimes, there is no one I've put on my ignore list. I've only needed to do that on other sites where moderation is very lax and I wanted to block certain users who were essentially trolls posting the same types of questions every day. I just didn't want to see it anymore.

I don't have anyone on my ignore list. I don't need an ignore list to ignore people... though there are some users that are so prolific and annoying (for a lack of a better word) I have considered blocking them. I think discussing ideas with people who disagree with you is important. The people I've considered blocking hasn't ever really been about disagreements of beliefs, rather their tone, incessant postings, or repeatedly saying things that inherently are false/inaccurate.

I find most posters here to be pleasant and I occasionally talk to some members behind the scenes. There are some members that I don't particularly like, but that doesn't make me want to censor their opinion.

There's really only one person on this site I'd love to trebuchet into the middle of the frigid Atlantic in the dead of winter to succumb to a... shall we say a painful going away from society as we know it. Sometimes you have to play nice.

Same here. I don't use the ignore list, I use the "skip" function in my eyes.
I remember you said that, I took notice of it as a fairly newbie. At the time I found it liberating to ignore what I found disturbing.
But don’t need it anymore, just skip over what isn’t of interest. Thanks.

None but you may actually be my first. Me personally, I find all your posts to be extremely annoying in my opinion. Not even trying to be rude but it is what it is.

AD’s fine, he’s just trying to justify the $60K he spent on University fees studying graphics design.

He didn’t do so well either, by the way. His final portfolio was 683 pages of Jony Ive’s head rendered with different colours, gradually becoming more misshapen until they slowly formed the words: ”I’ve failed, haven’t I?”

In his defence he did intend for it to be a flip book, which was a little lost on the examiner.

Speaking of which, @AngerDanger, do you still have that portfolio to hand? I’m sure many people would love to see it.

I have never put someone on ignore. If I see a post that I believe to be off the rails crazy, I might challenge it. If I believe it warrants intervention, I let the mods know. Otherwise, it is business as usual on MR.

Life is too short to allow any internet user to get the best of you, and cause you to have anything less than your best day.
