Will you be switching to Verizon

I may explore the possibility of moving to Verizon when my contract is up in a year and a half. Especially considering the fact that Verizon offers a more lucrative discount program for my company over AT&T. However, for the time being, I will stay with AT&T since I have not had any major problems with them. Plus, I'm not in the mood to go through the hassle of signing a new contract with Verizon, selling my iPhone 4 on eBay, and using that money to pay the ETF fee to AT&T.

Just goes to show ya.....even if you badly want it not to happen, the logical thing tends to happen anyway.

Yet nothing has been confirmed, just an event. People drew lots of conclusions. I *highly* doubt Jobs will allow Verizon to announce an Apple product.

Lots of rumors flying around, the same with WWDC rumors, "this time it is!" and nothing happened. I am betting it's the iPad 2 being demoes natively on Verizon... that has a better fit.

Admit it, it's different this time. The rumors have never reached this level of congruence before.

How can you *highly* doubt when even AT&T is firing off criticisms about the iPhone "living in the slow lane"??

How can you "switch" carriers anyway? You'd not only have pay your etf but buy another iphone that'll work with verizon...

A) You just described how
B) Sell your AT&T phone...covers the cost of the ETF and a new phone on Verizon

I agree.
I pretty much figured out the Verizon iphone would come soon back in October when Verizon started selling iPads.

The question IMO is not if, just when and what kind of tech it will use.

For a 32gig i4, that's about 600.00 I'd have to get for my phone to break even.
That's double what anyone can get a NEW iphone with a contract and the same as a full price purchase with no contract.

Yet, people pay it. Just do the research.

According to the Verizon pamphlet I got last month, my bill would be roughly $10 more than it would on ATT. With good coverage in my area, I see no reason to use Verizon, except that I'm moving to NYC and I heard from a couple of friends ATT there is spotty at best. So not sure which way to go! Haha :)

That article he quoted says it is...which goes against what I've read. Not sure what exactly they are implying by "backward compatible". It's not like a "purely" LTE chipset would work on GSM standards. They will most likely use a hybrid LTE/W-CDMA chipset.

My guess is, the "backward compatibility" is nothing more than a reference to the decision to use a hardware and software interface for customer and handset identification (ie. SIM card) that will be backwards-compatible with the standard that was developed originally for GSM, and was extended to support UMTS.

I heard a rumor that Verizon will always be phone iPhone version behind. I don't know too many people that would downgrade from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 3GS.

It's not going to be a 3GS, it will be a 4. If anything they will just be 6 months behind on getting anything. The only reason I can think of as for as it even being staggered approx 6 months is to stagger demand on production/engineering resources......probably mostly to do with production.

That is good. I don't know why they said that on a financial channel. It would really disappoint a lot of folks.

My ETF is $325 - $10 a month since I got my iPhone 4 in September so assuming VZW iPhone debuts today, I'll be able to go back to big red for a less than $200 ETF in late 2011. By then, VZW might have some new iPhone model and I might decide to go for it so I can once again get better phone coverage.

But VZW has to drop the mandatory unlimited data to lure me back quickly. Part of the reason I came to At&t was to get iPhone with a $15 data plan. I don't need or want unlimited data right now so there is a pretty good chance I'll live with the (slightly) spotty At&t phone coverage around here till my contract runs out and see what's available from VZW then.

A decision also depends on what carrier your friends and family use.

Being able to do in-carrier calling without using any minutes, is always nice.

Too bad this is Apple we're talking about. Unless it has LTE, the phone unveiling could be almost boring. If it were some company like Motorola or HTC or Samsung or LG, then we could all speculate about Verizon getting a totally different model... say, with a bigger screen or optional keyboard or who knows what.

:)

So does this mean Verizon will have the iPhone4 in Feb, and then 4 months later AT&T will have the iP5 or is Apple going to release the iP4 and then in a few months release an iP5 on Verizon? If they were to do that why would I get an iP4 when I could get an iP5 a few months later

How is this going to work for iOS updates? Are they going to support two different iOS.

I think Android taking over woke Apple up to the fact they have competition.

Nobody knows. All we can do is guess.

Why would they need another version of iOS? Should be the exact same version w/ a different baseband.

Remember, don't cancel with AT&T and then go to Verizon, unless you want a new phone number. If you want to keep your phone number you simply go to Verizon and request to port your number in.

Good info.

Better yet, sign a new line w/ Verizon and test it first. Then go back and request a number port from AT&T when you are happy with the results. If not, it's easier to just cancel than it is to port back.

You're right. It's probably the Verizon iPad they're going to announce.

Will you be getting the iphone on Verizon Wireless?

Will you be getting the iphone on Verizon Wireless in the next month?

Probably, I'd like to see the plans first ... what's included, costs, etc. I carry a cell and an ipod now with a work BB. Like to cut it down to 2 if possible.

No ATT coverge at home or work despite the color on the ATT map.

I currently have a Droid X on Verizon and will be switching to the iPhone shortly. However, I haven't decided whether to get the Verizon iPhone or go back to AT&T...

IF the Verizon data plan is still unlimited at the current price, AND if the Personal Hotspot feature is included at no extra charge, it will be a no-brainer for me and I'll certainly get the iPhone on Verizon.

I don't think the hotspot feature will be free, however, so if that's the case then I'm just not really sure which to get. If I go with AT&T, I would gain simultaneous voice/data and have faster speeds. However, if I get the Verizon iPhone, I should have more consistency.

I think right now, there are just too many questions. We don't know the data pricing yet. We don't know for sure it will be unlimited data. We don't know if the personal hotspot is free or priced the same as Verizon's other hotspot phone offerings.

And there's the more long term concerns! We don't know what effect the influx of iPhones will do to Verizon's network. We don't know whether the antenna will be improved on the Verizon iPhone. We don't know whether Verizon will get the iPhone 5 this summer at the same time as AT&T.

The smart thing to do is just wait it out before jumping in. However, I plan on buying my iPhone 4 off-contract and will use my upgrade pricing on the iPhone 5. So it really doesn't matter which one I get because I'll be selling it in June anyway (unless Verizon doesn't get the iPhone 5 until later).

Too many questions!
