Hate to be the first one to play devils advocate but who's to say Apple arent' waiting for Core 3 Quad's (points to Macrumors front page) :D

Waiting for one here as well. This G4 PB is starting to show its age. Pages are not rendering as fast as I like in Safari. Some web pages especially the ones that have a lot of flash content are bogging the system down. Not sure if it is a Safari thing or maybe the internet is getting more rich in its content.....

I also play WoW on it occasionally at a staggering 12 - 15 fps on lowest settings. Not good enough for me!!

Well I was waiting, but now I'm thinking Mac Pro, and keeping my current Powerbook for mobile use.

can't wait...got my powerbook stolen and bought a macbook pro a week later.
from what i read, merom is not that big of an upgrade anyway...i also heard that the battery life will take a bit of a hit due to the increased performance.
my macbook should arrive this teusday!!!...if the merom upgrade comes out within two weeks of that, ill be PISSED.

I put my order in last week. I need a new computer. The one I have is 6 years old, is slow as can be with a bad CD-DVD Rom player that doesn't play DVD's. I think it has 256 MB RAM and has a Pentium III processor. Needless to say I can't wait to join the 21st Century.

I would like to note that my order won't even be shipping until the expo/event is over (the 18th) so I waited as long as possible. I am happy with the way I went about it.

No, I didn't wait. The update is marginal at best and I wanted my Macbook now. It's a fact about technology that your machine will be outdated as soon as you buy it so I just said **** it and placed my order while I could still get my heavily discounted iPod video :p While all you guys are waiting for your MBs I got mine already!

I have a week 36 and it's amazing... according to iStat I was running at 19 degrees Celcius earlier today

voted!
don't wanna be the person who buys a laptop which gets outdated in a couple of weeks or a month!
hopefully the wait ends tomorrow with apple's press conference in sf!

You said "in the market". I just ordered mine and could not be assed waiting so i voted anyway.

If I would be in the market for a new laptop I wouldn't care about the chip. Both are fast.

If I want a "powermachine" I would get a desktop. Laptops will never be as fast as a desktop can be.

With intel at the helm for chips that will always be the case, only it will be in 4-6 month intervals. I bought my 15" MBP on Sunday, its now 14 days till it ships..

With computers its outdated the mintue it leaves the factory. There is no such thing as a "future proof" computer. I didnt feel like following the rumor trends anymore...

Nothing.

Please read the first note. Vote only if you are currently in the market to buy a new notebook; not if you already own one.

Regards

I am in the market to buy 1, as soon as Apple release a complete Merom solution, not just dumping a Merom on the current logicboard. If Apple released a Santa Rosa / Merom combo tomorrow I'd buy it tomorrow.

How about an option for those who don't care too much about C2D, but more about other updates (GPU, chassis, etc)? I'm happy to get Merom along the way, but really, it's not the deciding factor.

Well said. I'd just like to see some of the MB developments in the MBP. The easy-swappable HD/RAM, latch and maybe even the keyboard.

Oh and a fresh graphics card. And lots of RAM as standard. And 160 GB HD, since Minis can get that nowadays. And FW800 on the 15".

Seriously, Apple, the money's yours.

Just can't see buying one with a revision so close. At least I hope the revision is close can't wait forever.

I really hope it comes out tomorrow, I've been waiting forever...and I know its close, I just hope its sooner than later.

http://googled.wordpress.com/2006/08/26/merom-runs-hot-yonah-might-be-the-better-chip-for-notebooks/

That's essentially the story I've been reading on yonah vs merom everywhere. It uses more power and gets hotter. I wouldn't want that in a MBP that already suffers from elevated heat levels.

I just don't see apple slapping this baby into the MBP until intel has their Santa Rosa pumping out the door, so I think we'll all wait a long time for Core 2 Duo in our notebooks.

I've been thinking alot about this, and I've decided to go harass my local apple store for a MBP15 tomorrow. They probably don't have any in stock (sold out all over the bloody country), but I'm sure as hell getting my skinny ass into the top of the order list!

That said, shouldn't the current MBP be able to support slipping it a core2duo if a user really wants to?

I can't afford a MBP, and won't buy a MB until the Random Shutdown issue is fixed for good. I don't care if they do put Merom in the MB if it still has the RSD issue.

I ordered a new 2.0 GHz MacBook White last week.
The wire payment posted this morning because the bank
forgot to put the Web order number on the wire transfer. Doh!

So the order is confirmed today the 11th
Estimated shipping date .........Sept 20th
Estimated delivery date............Sept 27th

The Apple Store Web Page still says 5-7 business days for shipping.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but this delay could mean that
the Macbooks might be shipping with a Core Duo 2
or with a faster 2.16 GHz Yonah update.

Crossing fingers and toes.

I'm going to be buying a MacBook Pro in the very near future and am hoping that the core 2 duo will find it's way into the MacBook Pro because every bit of power helps when encoding video. Also hoping for an upgraded GPU and easily accesable hard drive but I hope that the cases are not changed and that they dont do the magnetic latch thing because I didn't like that when I tried it at Fry's, I don't like empty space like the hole for you to lift the screen up.

Historically, the iBooks ended up with PowerBook hand-me downs.

This is why I think for now, the MacBooks may get the faster 2.16 Yonahs
from the MBP line-up and the MBP's will be the first to see the Core 2 Duos.
I'm not sure what to think about the MacBooks getting a dedicated
GPU upgrade to 128MB
