Been waiting too long.
I'll be a convert then! :)

Count me in for a MBP the instant it's updated to Merom.

I 've been waiting patiently since mid July when my old (museum capable) iBook G3 has gone *KABOOM* after spilling a glass of wine on it (fortunately the data is still ok, as this would result in a serious delay of my thesis  ).

The iBook was fine and performed its duty well enough all these years (programming and editing/email mostly and graphics rarely), but now I 'm in desperate need for a new modem and hopefully long-lasting :)D) laptop.

Waited for the WWDC ... nothing (and seems proper since it's WWDC after all).
Waited for "Showtime" event .... still nothing (ok, it's an iPod related event)).
Will wait and for the Photokina event on the 26th (mostly pro-photograph related).

After that I'll get whatever 's available... steve do your magic faster please!

Speaking about your thesis, perhaps it's a good advice if you go ahead and just buy it now (that's if you don't have another computer to use with your thesis, or a Mac if it's Mac related). Waiting too long just means more delay to your thesis :p

Hmm this is indeed true. But given the previous Mac lasted for 3 years, this is also the expected lifetime of the new laptop I'll get, so I'd definately want something current. Also this 2nd gen. MBP should solve most of the problems of its predecessor (heat problems, DL Superdrive, etc. etc.). So far the thesis is frozen (the code is most likely cross compatible between Mac and Linux but I don't have the time to port and test this assumption) and hopefully the new MBP will start to heat thing up again. But it shouldn't overdo it! :p

Will definately wait until Photokina. If nothing new is announced, then I'll buy the non C2D MBP.

You nailed it. I'm also hoping:
- that my new laptop lasts 3+ years like my PB has
- all 1st gen MacBook Pro issues will be gone (with Merom)

However, because my PB is still a trooper, I'm waiting until Merom.

I bought a MB Pro last week before finding out that Core 2 versions were coming out soon. I returned the MB Pro the next day and now I'm patiently waiting for the new ones. :)

Tick tock, tick tock...

I'm still here working on my Samsung X50 PC laptop, but as soon as the Merom MBP's are announced I will be ordering one and making the switch.

COME ON APPLE! I'm waiting with bated breath!

If not for the Wine your previous Mac probably would have lasted longer.. guess they are teetotallers, which is good! Unlike PCs, Macs have no vices...

Technically speaking, the iBook would last longer ... but seriously it was reaching a point where doing serious work was getting painful. And by serious work I mean compiling lots of code (35K+ lines of the last project I did (shameless plug) took more than 10 minutes to compile on my 900Mhz G3 iBook) plus doing graphics intensive work (as in Maya) was problematic (having lots of RAM (640MB) helps but most of these task are CPU-bound not memory-bound).

So I was about to replace my laptop when the new MBP was released, regardless of the wine situation.
I have faith in the longevity of Macs. I just don't have faith in my handling of wine, anymore! :) :)

Come on apple *Please Update Macbook Soon*
I have been waiting to convert sense July...So sad, I am really beginning to need one for school. I can't read my own notes in my handwriting

Its a whole ton of money that I am willing to fork over for this thing so I want at least a new revision.

You hear me apple I could have gotten a dell for half the cost by now.......

OK, here it is. September 26th is tomorrow, which marked the beginning of C2D laptops' shipments for most vendors. I believe there is a great possibility that MB and MPB will get C2D tomorrow. :D

I hear many people on this forum (and other Mac forums, for that matter) say they would buy Core 2 Duo MBP or MB as soon as they hit the market. Are these people actually going to buy it when Merom-equipped MBP/MB arrives? I would be holding off for at least a few months to see how the early adopters are fairing with the new Mac.

How about an option for those who don't care too much about C2D, but more about other updates (GPU, chassis, etc)? I'm happy to get Merom along the way, but really, it's not the deciding factor.

I totally agree - i'm waiting for a general refresh of the product, complete with bug fixes and general architecture imrovements, as well as the CPU. Seems like the 1st gen macbooks are pretty annoying to own, and the new rev will hopefully alleviate the annoyances experienced by many early adopters.

i decided to wait for the Core 4 Quattros and the El Segundo platform. :D

barring an update this week i feel like i have waited so long, i may as well wait until C2D actually gets released. i just hope it is not in 2007, i would prefer not to wait that long.

K, just a side note.

was looking at AAPL now, and apparently, Apple's fiscal quarter ends SEPTEMBER. What this means is, they might choose to hold on to new product announcements just for 1 more week.

This is getting extremely annoying now.... I originally didn't care for C2D and bought a macbook but it was DoA, I got it replaced and the replacement was also DoA. It was then that I decided to wait for Merom and get either a MB or MBP whichever gets refreshed first. WWDC came and went, Paris Expo came and went and today is 26th and nothing so far... My classes this semester rely on heavy coding and creation of Digital Filters in MATLAB and the code I write locks up my hp pavillion on numerous occasions. I'm sick of waiting for 10-15 minutes just to find out whether I coded a filter in correctly or not...

On numerous occasions I have pondered just go ahead and order the MBP as it is now and be done with it, but then I look at the issues with MBPs and my experience with my first two macbooks and I hold off again. I'm so frustrated right now.

Waiting for one here as well. This G4 PB is starting to show its age. Pages are not rendering as fast as I like in Safari. Some web pages especially the ones that have a lot of flash content are bogging the system down. Not sure if it is a Safari thing or maybe the internet is getting more rich in its content.....

I have a 1.5 powerbook as well and it is quite fast, It even feels faster than the
P4 dual-processor I have at work. I use Opera though, it is much faster than
Safari at rendering pages. The only area where I feel the G4 is slow, is playing
HD content (e.g HD Movie Trailers).

How many times have we looked upon the next day with hope and got smite down by Apple's arrogant marketers yet again?

But how does that affect Apple? I know that an announcement causes the stock prices to go up, but how would it benefit Apple if the stock prices went up next quarter rather than this one?

I think the idea is, because there is such pent up demand for the upcoming MBP, there will be numerous purchases. Getting those numerous purchases all in the same quarter makes that quarter look REALLY good. Not sure how legal that is, so they may never admit to such a practice.

Hmmm....i guess all the companies do that....And to increase sales in the next 'holiday' quarter, Apple must already have planned promotions for thanksgiving and christmas! I just hope they release it ASAP!

ive given up my wait
