Why do some of you list unlimited texting along with data? I'm looking at the plans right now and it says,

MEdia Max Unlimited
Get unlimited high-quality video with CV, unlimited mobile web with MEdia Net and unlimited access to email, games, ringtones and music as well as unlimited messaging - text, picture, video and IM with anyone in the U.S - $35

Currently, with T-Mo, I am at:

1000 min. unlimited n/w - $39.99
Unlimited Data & push email - $20
400 texts - $4
sub total: $63.99
w/ taxes ~ $71

With AT&T:

450 min. w/ rollover - $39.99 (or might get $69.99 700 min family plan with the wife)
Unlimited data and messaging - $35
sub total: $74.99
20% discount: $59.99 (or $83.99 w/ family plan)

450 min. is a 55% cut from T-Mobile. I usually use around 700, so I will need to do some adjusting. Such as, using my office phone more and I have installed Skype, which I will use when I can.

That isn't a valid smartphone plan. You need to be at the Data/Smartphone Connect section. Unless I am mistaken the iPhone is now being recognized as a smartphone.

$80 (1400 minutes, family, unity)
$30 x 2 (3G)
$9.99 x 3 (3 add'l lines, 5 total)
$30 (Unlimitd Family Txt)

Grand total of

289.99 + taxes, so I'm looking at $300 wireless bill a month. I'm lookin at 45 a month on my part.

Its currently £25/month Sim only:

600 mins
1000 txts
Free Voicemail
Unlimited Data Bolt-On
ITS

I don't see this changing anytime soon either as i don't plan on getting iPhone 3G

Can someone please tell me why texting is not considered "data"?

Why do we let these cell providers get away with this? They have us over the barrel and they know it.

Texting has only become popular in the past two years or so. We all lived without it, let's boycott the texting plan until AT&T lowers the price.

Easy for me to say as I don't have any teenagers...

The family plan that I'm going to be added on to already has unlimited texts so I'm anticipating the following
$10 to add the extra line
$30 for the unlimited data plan

You guy are blowing this WAaay out of proportion......Because Im not paying it.

Family Plan

1 old iphone

1 new iphone

Monthly Costs

90$ Plan

20$ Data old iphone

30$ Data New Iphone

5$ 200 SMS messages

Overall 145$ + fees and taxes

I am currently on a family plan with ATT.......

Rate Plan:
FamilyTalk Nation 1250 Rollover & Unlimited Night/Weekend & Unlimited Mobile-To-Mobile Minutes and one iphone on the plan with 30 dollar data

2 lines on the plan....

Last bill was 133

Mine is creeping up slowly as I am using my phone more and more due to ease of use.

currently

£45 - (1,200 mins + 500 texts)
£7.50 - insurance
That works out to about $100. but I am also thinking of adding the unlimited texts for another £7.50 as I seem to be texting more than ever on my iphone!! It's just so easy!

My bills are still cheaper than my old blackberry. my highest Iphone bill has been £75, but I used to get £100-£120 regularly on my blackberry tarrifs!

Wow, I am jealous of you all.

Let me give you a bit of an education on Canadian phone pricing.

iphone 3G $199

200 mins + unlim eve and weekend $27.50 (20+7 system fee + E911 fee)
call display, voice mail and 150 texts $15

so far not too bad, but here is the kicker

$40 for data which includes unlimited emails and 8 MEGABYTES of web access with $7 for each additional MEGABYTE

in total with taxes around $100, but if you watch two youtube videos then you will be paying much more.

God I hate Cell providers

I think we all just need to wait until the pricing information becomes available. From what I have read here the prices are ranging from reasonable to outrageous! I am of the opinion that AT&T CANNOT exclude text msgs from the basic iphone 3g plan. Every phone plan I have had in the past few years have had SOME level of texts included with the plan. Perhaps the AIM app is coming out and we won't even need as many texts?

Even though I think we should wait, I will take a stab at what I think I'll be paying for one. I'm excited about it too. :)

From what I expect:
$39.99- 450 mins, 5000 night/weekend, visual voicemail, 200 texts, rollover mins and unlimited mobile 2 mobile.
$30.00- Unlimited Data

$69.99 pretax.
~$10 taxes/ bs govt fees

~$80 pre corp/student discount (estimated at ~15%)
~$68-$70/month
For the 1st bill the one time $36 activation fee would take it to ~$106-$107

Currently, I pay $62-$63/mo for Verizon with comparable minutes. However I have unlimited mobile2mobile txts. This option would drive up the iphone plan considerably. If I am right this is a very reasonable plan for the iphone 3g. Also, It would definitely be worth it for adding only $7-$8 a month. Unfortunately we are just going to have to wait and see.

I will be paying £59 ($120) for the handset, then £45/month ($90) for pay monthly, which consists of:

Minutes: 1200
Texts: 500
Unlimited Data & WiFi
Visual Voicemail
Reduced Roaming Rates
18 Month Contract.

Same here, although I'll probably continue with the insurance (£7.50 per month). We really are getting a fantastic deal on the iPhone in the UK, particularly when all the prices above are fully inclusive of all taxes, there is no activation fee and we only pay for calls we make, not calls we receive (either that or our friends over the pond are being ripped off :D)

You can enter your school (or work) e-mail address here and see if you qualify for a discount.

Wow, awesome. I've got one year left at the University of Maryland and I'm eligible for the discount. Good thing I read this thread, cus this student discount is something I didn't know about. Thanks guys.

I am looking to get the 450 mins packages with 200 text but I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a package or plan you can get that includes calling Canada without roaming? If so whats the cost?

This is where I am at too. Im praying they let the discounts apply. With one of my employers, I would get 20%.

This is the one thing that keeps holding me back from buying a iphone. I look at the new 3g iphone coming out and it will be 300 for the 16gb. Thats not problem for me I would buy that in a heart beat but then I start to think about how I will be paying $100 dollars a month for 2 years and it starts to seem crazy. I mean this phone is not so much better than the one I have now to justify 35 more a month. I just don't know I wish cell phone companies would quit killing people with their plans.

Me too, but in reality, I know I'll need more than 200.............

The 200 text message plan is obviously for someone that doesn't text much. Its certainly not geared toward teens who use this as their primary mode of communication.

My friends and I use text because its difficult to take personal phone calls where we work. 200 just doesn't cut it. Now the real question is, why does the text plans jump from 200 to 1500? M-o-n-e-y.....thats why. If 1500 text are $15 a month, why wouldn't 500 text be $5 a month, 1000 text for $10? Because AT&T has figured out most people send somewhere between 200 and 1500 text per month and since the person cant afford the massive overage charges, they choose the 1500 or unlimited plan.

These charges are getting high...I remember when cell phones were first popular, just a few years back and we had to find $40/month out of the budget. Now we're at $80 - $110.

I also have still have home phone, home broadband and cable/satellite TV. How many just use the cell phone as only phone line?

Not sure what we as consumers can do but we need to stop this trend of the cell companies charging more and more for each individual item. Maybe not purchasing text message is a start? Let's boycot texting! (easy for me as I'm 35...)

All this makes me laugh when my fellow Americans complain about gas prices. Magically, we all seem to have money for cell phone and other "luxury" items.

you're right man. I'm boycotting texting and moving closer to my workplace so I can walk to work.

No only if my condo would sell...
