As an owner of 4 Apple Sport Aluminum watches and currently still on an S5 Sport, I think the answer is I wouldnt pay whatever the premium is going to be, as I've never paid for the premium stainless/sapphire watches or other premium ones.

I'm looking forward to upgrading to S8 now because the battery life of my S5 is finally starting to suffer.

So.... potential global economic crash.....

apple like let me sell a watch 3x more expensive than the current one and 5x more than the current one.

The most expensive one better teleport me or be like a Pipboy from Fallout

What ever you guess.. it won’t be enough..
Amen.

I think the iPhone 11 at $699 is the only phone that has ever pleasantly surprised me on price.

This redonkulous Pro Watch will be $1299.

And I want a stainless steel Watch, but not paying $699 or whatever for it. I wish they would use their sapphire compound from the stainless steel on the $429 regular version. I’d pay $499 for that.

This Pro Watch (if I was a millionaire or someone with a credit card problem) I would buy for $999. H*** why not? Market already is just titillated with a $999 phone, why not throw another thou’ on the budget to get the Apple best watch?

We're just a few days away from when Apple is expected to announce the Apple Watch "Pro," an entirely new Apple Watch explicitly designed for athletes and customers who want a more robust and durable Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch "Pro" has been described as a "rugged" Apple Watch that will feature a new design, a larger display and battery, and more durable materials to make it more suitable for athletes and those who are active. Those improvements won't come without an additional cost, however, with the new model priced above most versions in the current lineup.

The new Apple Watch will likely sit at the higher end of the Apple Watch lineup, likely replacing the Apple Watch Edition as the more expensive model in the lineup. To make things easier, we've put together a quick comparison chart comparing the Apple Watch Edition and the Apple Watch "Pro" below.

Apple Watch Series 7 Edition
  • Case Material: Titanium
  • Case Design: Rounded edges and curved display around the sides
  • Sizes: 41mm or 45mm
  • Display Material: Sapphire front crystals
  • Health Features: ECG, Blood Oxygen, Heart Rate notifications
  • Special Features: None
  • Price: $799 - $849

Apple Watch 'Pro'
  • Case Material: Stronger titanium alloy with improved impact resistance
  • Case Design: "An evolution of the current rectangular shape," according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman
  • Sizes: 47-48mm with 7% larger display
  • Display Materials: Improved crack and scratch resistance for athletes
  • Health Features: ECG, Blood Oxygen, Heart Rate notifications, and body temperature sensor
  • Special Features: Improved watchOS UI to show additional activity metrics thanks to the larger display
  • Price: Around $900 - $1,000

Knowing what you know now, we want to know how much you would be willing to pay for an Apple Watch "Pro." Let us know in the comments below, and check out our guide for everything we know about the upcoming Apple Watch lineup.

I already do it...it is $700. The Stainless Steel version is as rugged as you ever need. The only caveat is the sapphire glass would be risky in sports where hard surface impact occurs. For me, all the sporting that I do falls outside this. My 6 hours per week of volleyball and trail-running/golf/etc will not even slightly damage mine. The screen is unscratchable, and the Graphite frame simply doesn't show any wear. After 20 months with my series 6, it looks brand new, and it is NEVER off my body except 1 hour each night for charging. My series 5 was the same.

While I would never dream of getting anything other than the “Pro” iPhone, I don’t see myself doing the same for the Apple Watch unless it offers some significantly better functionality or user experience. To me the Apple Watch is more of a jewelry/fashion accessory with some moderately useful tech functionality. I will not upgrade it every year, abe when I do buy a new one ultimately I will go with whichever visually suits my style.

I’ve always bought the Aluminium sport models since the first AW1. For the large model it was usually and has been $429. (Although I have bought for 60-75$ discount usually) I was half thinking I might get a more interesting model at this point since I wear it daily and have kept my Rolex, Breitling, IWC, Omega in the cabinet quite literally since putting on the first AW.

IF the PRO model offers some compelling additional feature AND/OR it nearly doubles the battery life - either through larger battery, better processor AND if possibly they put the sapphire glass screen on it (although I will say I have never really had anything other than some TINY scratches on the regular glass models) AND if the CASE is of some upgraded material

well, then I MIGHT be inclined to spend a bit more than 50% more than I have in the past.. I would put a starting price at $599, but with inflation and every third model revision pricing/inflation adjusting price bump I would put a starting price at $649 - although I would think it might be $699.

I’m not interested yet - unknown combination of PRO features - at anything over $700 starting price.

Bigger Battery + Larger Overall Face + Low Profile Flat Design + Focused Hardware only for the PRO model....
$750-$950. I think that $1000 is a stretch if Apple is not offering a different experience from the Edition or w/e they are going to call the standard flagship Watch.

I would like a larger, flatter watch but the "pro" aspect doesn't intrigue me. If I get a good trade-in value for my Ti series 7 I'll swap. Otherwise, I have no real incentive to do so.

If they can up the battery life then I'd consider upgrading my AW7. I've been playing around with a Samsung Pro 5 LTE the past week and it easily gets 3+ days of battery life with AOD on, while my AW7 struggles with one day if I workout. The Pro 5 LTE is about half the price of Apple's current "pro" models. That really has to be Apple's focus going forward IMO.

There has to be a cap on electronics that a reasonable person would attach to their wrist.. but I guess i've seen people pay dumber amounts for phone so sky's the limit I suppose.

I'm still going to buy the pro but, I have to admit, I'll be pretty annoyed if the watch really is $1000 when the samsung watch pro 5 is pretty much half of that with almost the same specs.

I'm in the market for a new Apple watch. If the new Pros are 47/48mm then they are too big for me. If Apple release a new design for the Pros but don't update the Series 8, then I'll skip this year and wait for Apple to update the standard Series 9 design in 2023.

Price isn’t an issue. It’s the fact that the thing is going to be a huge according to rumors. I already go for the smaller watch so if they make it in the smaller 40/ 41 mm size then depending on how it looks I would consider it.

Many people are going to say oh I wouldn’t pay for that and that’s because you’re not the target market. That’s like asking people how much were they would be willing to pay for a Mac Pro. I’m guessing this is going to be targeted at hikers and people who do a lot of outdoor activity. I can see where I would buy it just for that purpose but I’m not out climbing mountains on the weekend so it wouldn’t be worth it for me.
Ive never thought of apple watches as huge and I currently have a 44. my old timex and Casio watches used to be bigger and bulkier growing uo

Not that I have anything against it, but I think anything over $500 for a smartwatch is overkill. Sure it's great at first, but as time goes on the value of it isn't worth it. The chips and everything will age and it will be slow. SO if they do drop something like that and it is $750-$1K range, what are you going to do? Buy one again in 2-3 years.

I won't knock anyone that does, but for me, myself, I just can't justify it.

as a guy who busted an Apple Watch 3 screen while rock climbing, I just don't get it… are there even that many athletes in the world to justify this?

An Apple Watch designed for the needs of videogame players, there's a market.

“For athletes who are active.”

Uh, so, you mean all athletes, then.

A “pro” Apple Watch is a such a stupid idea, imo. One that is more scratch resistant and has a slightly bigger screen should just be how they build ALL regular future Apple Watches anyway. As far as other “software features,” all that is is a WatchOS update—and again, should just be part of all Apple Watches.

The most important feature for me isn’t list in the post: Longer battery life. If they can do significantly better battery life than my titanium Apple Watch 7, then I’d pay maybe $100 more than the price of a regular Apple Watch in Ti.

maybe $10...
Actually a watch that doesn't have more than a couple days battery life? I wouldn't pay anything for it.
My Casio serves me just fine, has a nice retro style, and the battery lasts 10 years.

Display Materials: Improved crack and scratch resistance for athletes
Color me skeptical that it will be scratch resistant AND crack resistant.

They’re going to release the $1299 Watch with Ceramic Shield 2.0, that will be so unbreakable because it will be plastic.
