I’m a professional eater. Or at least that’s what I tell myself to explain the amounts of food I consume on a daily basis.

No one is expecting any new sensors or upgraded chip. Seems like just a new case design and call it ‘Pro’. Probably little better battery life and few things that most would never use. Apple figures if Garmin can sell $1100 watches why not them.

Like others I'm waiting for blood sugar monitoring before I need anything else. The longer battery life is appealing but I've already solved that cheaply by adding a second hand Series 5 watch to my existing S4. The 4 is worn at night, the 5 in the day (with always on display). I never run out of battery now.

We all know it cost Apple probably $80 to make this Watch but they are tacking on the Apple tax. So it really should be $299. Considering that’s realistic, this thing is probably gonna be $599.

I have an AW4 and it’s amazing. I still cannot imagine what features they would add that would even get me to upgrade. It’s fantastic with battery last 24 hours even with short runs.

Oh wait … if it actually downloaded the full running playlist and used the 6 Gb of storage it oddly keeps in reserve. I might upgrade for that.

I always get the base aluminum model, so not really interested in the pro. I may consider SS next time if they offer it without cellular (and the $ that goes with it).

I would pay no more than $500. And that is assuming it has a battery that lasts at least 48 hours with all sensors and always on display on, and that it is made from premium materials (titanium body and sapphire glass). That is what the Samsung Watch 5 Pro has, so they should be able to do the same.

I just want a cheap stainless steel one with no cellular. there's no reason for them to cost as much as they do. stainless is a worthless metal
I totally agree it's BS to make the higher materials only cellular. Then that's another $100 plus the plan cost on top

Apple uses the "Pro" label to provide improved specs and a lot higher price point. There is nothing truly professional about most of Apple's so-called "Pro" devices. Of course they can add the "Pro" label and fan club members will poop their drawers and rush out to buy one sight unseen! That is the power of Apple marketing, which is clearly aimed at those with big eyes but not those with big brains. If watchOS remains the same as other watches, then just like the iPad Pros, any Watch Pro will remain an overpriced piece of eye candy with little value for the average person. That of course is if the whole "Pro" rumor is even valid, and around this forum there isn't a lot of accuracy in rumors or information...

Forget pro, I'm not sure I'm willing to pay anything for an Apple Watch. I've now had 2 of them (S2, and S4) and they're fine. It's pretty rare that I use an actual app, something like 90% of the time I use it to check the date and time. The rest is for checking, and dismissing, notifications. The only apps I use regularly are the timer (for cooking and covid tests) and messages. I think I might go back to mechanical watches.
You don't exercise?

I have the series 4 and ready to upgrade this year. I mostly use it for fitness (obsessed with closing the rings HAHA), so if the PRO is not to bulky, I might get it.

Unlike the iPhone, I do not see the need to upgrade the watch every year.

I gave around $750 for Garmin Epix 2. I would give Apple $750-$1000 for week worth of battery life even with gesture mode.

When I’m on my mountainbike and I crash myself into the ground- which happens from time to time, lol - I don’t think the allegedly rumored Pro watch is going to make any difference in shock proof and durability. It will break regardlessly. So I’ll stick to the regular SS and I’m fine with paying a grand for a watch. Zero eff’s given.
The best mountain bike “crash” I ever had was going around the corner on a switchback. The front tire lost its grip because there was sand on the Boulder. I went over the handle bars, landed on my feet facing uphill, and caught my bike. I wish action cameras existed at the time but that will live on in my memory.

If by "athletes" you mean... competitors and active people who train hard, I don't think many of them have a particular problem with the durability of current Apple Watches.
What they likely want is a watch with different ergonomics. Sports watch usually come with big buttons which you can use to start, stop and pause recordings, or progress thorough structured trainings with split second accuracy without even watching. I am a regular runner and I quickly gave up on using my Apple Watch for interval trainings on the track or any running competition where I wanted to accurately time the activity, and reverted back to my trusty old Garmin Forerunner. I now use a Garmin Fenix which is a bit closer to a sports/smart watch hybrid, so I guess Apple could also release in the future a watch that served the needs of a wider range of athletes, but, as I wrote, I believe it would require more work on the ergonomics than durability. And I am not sure that's a direction Apple is going to take.
I can still see a case for a more durable AW with titanium and sapphire, as Garmin itself offers on higher end Fenix watches, but this has very little to do with athletic considerations and more with market segmentation and offering premium options.

It's purely marketing, no?

It's basically a Series 8 with a premium casing and a slightly different design.

Instead of selling an even bigger Series 8 with an option to upgrade the casing, Apple just slaps a Pro label on it.

Right, it's different, so no it's not purely marketing. We don't know how different yet as specs have not been confirmed, but it sounds like it will have longer battery life. Stronger, larger, longer battery life.

Purely marketing would be just a different name on the same product.

Though some argue that the watch hasn't changed since the S0. It's all about granularity I suppose.

The battery life difference is more like an iPhone 13 mini/13 or iPhone 13 Pro/13 Pro Max kind of "feature". Comes with the larger size. Not sure there are other hardware differences between Series 8 and Series 8 Pro atm.

Maybe we will see Apple start limiting new hardware to the Pro line like the iPhone.

The battery would need to be substantially longer last on top of the already listed features to justify the estimated price tag for this.
