He probably meant "where int he country/world" as his description of work and pay is pretty much all I've heard of as the norm here in the states. Perhaps the larger 10 cities in the US get some good firms going...
I'd be interested in whether different countries have it better...

I work in the northeast US. Not in a big city though. I'm sure there's places like mine everywhere.

I get no bonus...as I work for myself

I might give myself a pat on the back though.

No bonus for me.

But because Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day all fall on my "weekend" (I work Wednesday through Saturday and have Sunday through Tuesday off each week), I get four extra paid days off to take whenever I like. (Technically, 32 hours, which really translates into three days plus two hours.)

3 grand bonus, 5 grand raise. Wife got 10 grand quarterly, 2 grand Xmas bonus and squat for a raise. It all goes to the mortgage holder of course.

End of September I was told that I just need to feel lucky that I even have a job. The person who told me that was let go the next week (I call it Karma). The following month I worked my ass off because even if they lay people off the work doesn't end. This month I am not sure about a bonus. There is rumor, but I doubt it'll be much. I'm used to $5k every 3 months and 10k end of fiscal year. If I do not see a bonus I'll be just fine. As far as feeling lucky to have a job, I don't call it luck I call it skill. ;)

I think I got a decent one this year as it was well over $5 K. Good thing is part of it still goes to automatic 401K contribution like the regular pay (less tax burden on me for now). I am planning to use it toward MP and CS3 or something in that line next year. I think I am pretty much done with tech stuff for this year.

I wish I had a job...

Stupid lousy old job not calling me back for work over Christmas break...

But even if I did go back to my old job my Christmas bonus (if it were the same as last years) would be... $5.

Haha, I just got an unexpected bonus from The Man. It's all given in stock, too. Weee! Noice wine for Christmas. I love me some surprise wine bonuses. :D

£0.00

buuut, the monetary value of the alcohol I consumed on the company's dime last night was considerable. Also, I'm currently at my desk munching on company-provided childrens' chewable morphine* to quell the hangover fairies.

(* well, a couple of paracetamol I found in the cupboard)

Nope - no bonus for me. Our company doesn't really function in a way that would make bonuses viable.

On the other hand, I found out yesterday that I had been promoted. I had absolutely no idea I was in the running for it either. So instead of a bonus, I have a very healthy pay rise instead :D

Result Kernow. A pay rise is much better than a bonus. Extra cash every year :)

£0 :(

The misses last year, first year in a new job didn't know they go bonus's until she was told she had got an excellent rating and would be getting a bonus in March. We both thought like £500 but her paycheck came through with £8000 before tax bonus!!!!!!

Best I heard though was one of my mates worked for a software house that did the graphics on Mario 64. His section worked extra hours for months because the sooner they finished the bigger the bonus he got. They finished 3 months early and he got £25,000 bonus!!!!!

Raise/Bonus

Well I don't feel too bad about it now, but we got a $100 bonus.

The bad thing is that I haven't gotten a raise in about 2 years. In that time I have re-ran the networking, brought an xServe online, started up internal FTP service, configured and started up a new employee management system (time clock, shipping, receiving, pay roll, inventory, etc.), and a couple other major advancements that are related directly to our business (commercial printing). Our company also grew from a $6 million company to a $7.3 million company, and there are a total of 50 employees. The really bad thing is that I am just a graphic designer/artist and I did all this. (sad huh?) Also we didn't get a Christmas bonus last year.

Wow- and I thought I had it bad. You need to get out of there.
