No I was asking because he said his friends send him MMS all the time. And for my age group (20-25 years old) I haven't ever seen MMS being sent, even on a college campus. So I was asking what age group MMS really appeals to.

Perhaps that is due to your age group in college being more tech savvy?

Maybe, um, once every few years? :p Last time someone sent me a MMS I was on my old dumbphone that was perfectly capable of MMS - but the person was sending pics from Sprint -> AT&T which didn't work too well at the time (pics came through but were super tiny like 80px wide or something, unviewable pretty much). Ended up having to have them emailed anyway. So my view on MMS has kind of been skewed by those olden days. I'd rather do everything through email if possible, much more convenient (as long as the other party has a email w/pics capable device).

Well smartphone's aren't really the majority phone owned by people. Most have those cheaper phones with small screens, so when you send them a lovely high quality picture from your iPhone, they get it on a tiny screen. Yay.

completely useless feature FOR YOU.

as i don't see my daughter every day it's nice to get pictures of what she's doing, her mother doesn't email so i get them via mms. excellent quality when viewed on the iphone too, to call them sub-par is just showing more ignorance.

i love the attitude on here sometimes, if someone doesn't use a feature then it's useless, they seem to think that the iphone was developed solely for them, "well i don't use this feature, remove it immediately if not sooner!".

Yeah because the only place people look at photos is on phones. Take that MMS photo off your phone and put it on a computer.

I love the attitude on here sometimes, if someone doesn't take their photos off the phone then sun-par quality doesn't concern them..

There's alot of "how to mms" threads on here that have 5 to 10 thousand hits each, that shows you how many people are interested in it.

Hits means nothing. And if you care to read the thread topic you would notice that its asking how often you send MMS, not "how popular do you think MMS is". Plus, doesn't Google Bot, Yahoo Bot, and MSN Bot account for like 70% of guest activity and hits on forums anyway?

I would use it everyday. I take pictures everyday. I usually take funny pictures of random people and show them to my family. :)

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a brother who is considerably younger than me, and when I move 2000 miles away I would like to get pictures on the fly.

Plus, when I had MMS on previous phones I used it a lot, too.

Yup. Exactly why I like email better. Can go look at it on any computer with access to your account. I think MMS is a good thing to have for people in situations where the other party can't receive email on their phone and isn't going to be near a computer often. But that's not me. Not saying I'm in any sort of majority, just my reasons.

Plus there's those unsightly charges if you don't have any SMS/MMS plan. Some of my friends have had messaging disabled completely because Verizon was charging then like 40¢ just to receive messages.

I want it badly. I dont send many picture but lady friends of mine often send me pictures. and they usually dont tell me they just send them thinking I got them. when we talk and I find out that they tried sending me a picture weeks ago I say you have to send it to my email because iPhone doesnt recieve MMS. then they're as stunned as I was when I found that out.

I can live without it, but it would be nice to have. Not all of my friends have smart phones or they don't have a data plan so email is not an option. It really would be more of a convenience to get the funny thing that just happened or whatever without having to go to viewmymessage.com but copy and paste helped that a lot.

I have never used MMS here in the UK come to think I never even used EMS who remembers that??

MMS is nice to have but until it becomes the same price as a sms I don't think it will be anything more than a gimic or niche.

I have plenty of aunts in their 30s and 40s who send plenty of pic messages.... age doesnt matter. Its funny when certain people think certain things are childish. I rarely have any reason to give out my email adress, but since having the iphone I have been forced to give it out just to get a picture on this 600 dollar cell phone that even 20 dollar prepaids could recieve

My prediction is that while it is useful for some no doubt, it will be a "Dude I'm going to send you a MMS, tell me if it works!!!1!!!" thing. You send the MMS, your friend says "I got it....." you ask him to send you one, he sends you the middle finger for wasting his time, and thats about it. AT&T will see a huge increase in MMS sent/received for the first few days then the numbers will return to normal.

Childish? Don't put words in my mouth, I never said that. I was asking a simple question.

The more popular mms is the more it's going to be used. MMS threads have thousands of hits on here that means people are interested in it. Well if it's bots that are giving it hits why don't they view every thread on here, or is it that bots only care about mms?

People are interested, no denying that. But if you see my above post, I have a strong feeling its going to be sending a few then forgetting about it and using it once a month. All of the hype is because the feature was announced, and its a new thing. Once the new car smell is gone, the joy will fade. Trust.

Steve, what you say is true right after we finally get MMS "officially," but in the long term there's going to be some need for MMS by many iPhone users, which you can see just by reading the comments by others in this thread. My wife was in Texas without me (I had to work) several months ago with the family and they were having dinner. They decided to send a picture of an empty chair at the table to show how they missed not having me there. All I got was some stupid SMS message telling me to open some webpage with a password (that didn't work). It wasn't until later that I found out what that was all about. So, yeah, I think there is a need. Many people don't have smartphones or a data plan and just can't see me an email, even if they knew my email address.

I would use it every day. Before I had the iphone, I had a razr and I would MMS like crazy.

Pictures of the kids, dogs. Show my girlfriends the new shoes I bought...

I cannot wait for this to start working...

I use it when it's available. Maybe once or twice a week? But for now I've found ways around it. I usually just send an email to the other persons cell phone. It works the exact same way.

For example. To send a picture to another AT&T phone you just send an email with the picture in it to: 1234567890@mms.att.net. That simple.

I personally can't wait for MMS.

There are a lot of nay sayers out which cracks me up.

I have 2 people in my group that despise MMS. The "use email it is so much better"

So when they SMS me I shoot back an email instead.
Then I get did you get my text?
yep I replied, did you check your email, SMS is freaking stupid email all te way.

To nay sayers do you text or do everything through email?

I text, and nobody I know really cares if I send them pictures of random crap or not. Thats what facebook is for.

I'd use it probably like 4-5 times a week. I find myself not even thinking about doing it now because I know it isn't possible without using Quip (Which is a total pain for my friends without a data plan.)

So like copy and paste, once it is available, it will be much more viable.

Yes, it is "that simple" as long as you know the cell phone provider for the person you're sending the message. So, not everyone knows that for everyone in their contact list.

Interesting view point.
so instead of an instaneous message to someone taking a picture then uploading it to facebook and expect that person to be logged into face book to see that picture is a viable option?

Like I said MMS is something I want. I know my wife uses it frequently. My son that just got an iphone can't wait for MMS either. His coolege friends use MMS all the time.

1. Who said the only place people look at photos is on their phone? Of course it's not, what a ridiculous thing to say.

2. If I don't get the photo sent to my phone I don't get it at all, common sense dictates that a phone picture is better than nothing at all.

3. I don't put it on my computer, I keep it on my phone so I can see it wherever I am, is that ok with you? Do you mind if I don't buckle to your demands to transfer it?

4. What does sun-par mean?
