I upgrade my phone at least once a year, sometimes twice but not always to an iPhone!
I usually get a new phone at least once a year, but I actually kept my iPhone 5s for almost two years until I was tempted by the Moto X Pure Edition. That didn't last long. Upgraded to the Galaxy S7 Edge shortly after release and then bought an iPhone SE about a month after that as a second phone. Unless something REALLY nice comes out within the next year, I'll probably stick with this combo for the next two years at least.

The iPhone 5s was actually the smallest amount of time I've kept an iPhone (around 5/6 months.) I just couldn't handle the battery life on it. Had an S5, LG G4, Note 5, OnePlus 3 and an iPhone 6 since then!

I had great battery life on my iPhone 5s. By the time I swapped it for an iPhone SE, which was about 2.5 years after getting it, I was still getting around 4.5 hours of screen on time with it.

Holy moly! That's pretty insane battery life. What do you use it for? I'm a fairly heavy user, the battery life started off OK, but I absolutely mangled it within 5/6 months. Others that had the phone at the same time as me, also had similar issues. So I just put it down to the device and my overly heavy usage and moved on! :D

It used to be every two years, but lately about every year. I realize I just should have tried another + iPhone last December rather than going back down to the 6s. While I love the idea and price of the SE, my eyes need a bigger screen. So peepers win. If I go with a 7+ I sure hope I won't have to upgrade for at least two years.

I feel like this is sarcasm. Lol I mean, 4.5 hours isn't bad, but I wouldn't call that insane. :p

I mostly use mine for texting and browsing the web, some music, a little Facebook browsing, and other apps occasionally. For about a year I would plug it in when I got home and leave the hotspot running all night.

The key was probably not draining it much, tbh. I say I would get about 4.5 hours on a charge, but I rarely let it get below 50%, so I didn't often actually use it for 4.5 hours. And that's probably why, even after 2.5 years, I never had problems like my phone dying at 30% like my sisters' phones would. They would regularly completely drain the battery which is bad for battery health.

If only it were sarcasm! I rarely have phones that can last more than 4 hours SOT. Its most likely the way I absolutely destroy phones, when I say in a heavy user. Its rarely out of my hand, and I'm usually doing something with fairly high processor / RAM usage.

People talk about iPhones having bad battery life a lot, but I've never had an Android phone that could last as long as my iPhones. My Galaxy S7 Edge is the first Android phone I've had with good battery life - I can usually get about 5.5 hours on a charge - but my iPhone SE is just a little better.

My Moto X is awful. I get like 2 hours (2.5 if I'm lucky) SOT on a charge.

Yeah, the main issue I have with Android Phones tends to be their memory leaks causing huge battery drains. iPhones don't tend to get this!

Well like I said, my Galaxy S7 Edge is fine in that regard. I would have kept it as my main phone, but I got an iPhone SE intended as a backup and I wound up liking it so much that I use it way more than my Galaxy S7 Edge.

started with 3G, and bought all the new iPhones yearly. Now, I'm keeping my 6S until iPhone 8 comes out.
7 looks underwhelming, even with the dual camera.

I've gone:
Original
3G
3GS
4
5
6 plus
6s plus

Undecided about this year. Storage could swing it. Although not generally a Luddite I do like to have a lot of videos on the phone. 256 would be useful.

I personally upgrade every two years. Mainly because I don't have the money, and also because I never see the need to pay the money to upgrade. However, I did go from the iPhone 5S to the 6 and then the 6 to the 6S because of the screen, and then the 3D touch which I still think is revolutionary, but thats a different topic.

I went from a 4S to my current 6. So that was about 3 years. I am considering getting a 7 later this year when I qualify for a subsidy, but now that my kids are getting older, old iDevices are more likely to be handed down than resold.

My 4S is still being used by a friend.
My wife is trying out my iPad Air 2 before deciding if she will keep it and hand down her Mini 2.
My wife recently got an iPhone SE and handed down her 5S to my son. My 12 year old daughter is using my wife's first iPhone, an old iPhone 4 and is the likely recipient of the 6 if I upgrade. I'm quite amazed that all these devices are still working!

A good reason why nobody really needs to replace their phones every second year...

Can't say, yet. Still using my iP4 (which replaced a 2004 Sony Ericsson P910). Thus on the basis of this limited amount of data, I'm upgrading my iPhone less often than every 6 years...

(While I'm still fine with the hardware, I might consider upgrading soon anyway as iOS 7 is now 2 yrs w/o security updates.)

I've done every year and every other year in the past. I'd committed to the two year cycle but with the SE coming out mid cycle, I kept a 6 for only 18 months and will probably keep the SE about the same before upgrading to the 2017 device.

I have upgraded every year since the 3GS, but since my 6s Plus is still on Next, it would cost around $300 to upgrade, turn in my phone, and keep making payments.

As I stated in a previous post, we'll see...
