Well, the options to vote are a bit limited, so I picked what I guess comes closest.

But, eh.. it depends on a few things. When I get a new phone, I have a box where I put money in daily, or weekly. and sometimes only monthly. But when my phone contract allows me to upgrade, and my phone account doesn't go up in its monthly fee (meaning I pay the same on old or new phone) and that box has enough money, and apple has just released a new phone that's interesting enough and performance wise a proper boost .. Then I have green checkmarks on all points and I don't hesitate and just upgrade.

I waited until I got the 4, then didn't upgrade until the 5s. And waited until the 6s and I won't upgrade until my contract is ready, there's a new iPhone like the 8 or 8s, and I have saved up enough money. Etc. I am in no rush, these 64 bit machines are powerful to last more than few years now. And the camera is great enough for daily pictures and 4K recording will work just fine for some great captures.

[x] When the time is right and I can afford it, and my contract with my telecom provider allows it, and I don't end up paying more per month.

I went from 3g to 4 to 5 and now 6. So Ive updated every other year because of contract, and since my old contract is up Im considering the 7 on the upgrade program.

Every years since the iPhone 3g... And there's no way im passing onnthe iphone 7... Going with the Plus model again.

I might be minority here. I never bought phone for resell in the future. I had 3gs, 4s, 6 and 6s. All of them still working perfectly - and jailbroken too :), and used by myself and my family. Now I am using 6s and perhaps later will replace it with 8s or even 9s. Hopefully nothing bad happen on mine now.

I'm a lousy customer. I don't upgrade my phone at all unless absolutely necessary. Say like once in 4 years. Other people get embarrassed pulling out an old fossil phone, but I simply don't care.

I went from like what? Generation 2 to 4s, to SE. I'll probably keep an eye out for iPhone 8, but that just means I'm skipping 7. Hahahahaha. :D:D:D

My friends all ask me, how come you can spend $600 on a pair of heels without blinking, but won't upgrade your phone. I can't really answer that. I guess we're all wired differently.

Bold is what I have/will own, always with highest memory. So varies for me.

Yeah, I still have my Newton. Planned obsolescence by Apple, it runs sooooo slow. And only fits in pocket of my winter jacket. Pretty useless as a phone as well.

My history is:

3G --> 4S --> 5 --> 6 --> ?

I had my 3G on SoftBank for entirely too long since I was in Japan at the time and knew I was coming home, so getting a 4 made no sense. Got a launch day 4S with AT&T, and then after 18-20 months cashed in my early upgrade to the 5, back when there were 18-20 month upgrades. Then they got rid of the early upgrades, and AT&T kind of sucked, so there was no reason to stick around. Switched to Verizon with a launch day 6.

Now my contract is up in a few weeks and I am leaning heavily towards an SE to tide me over until the 2017 iPhone, but I'll see what the 7 is like I guess since I have to wait a few more weeks for my contract to end anyway. Either way, I've decided I'm not going to sign another contract like I had been considering. If I get a 7 though, I won't be able to justify the 2017 phone.

With the possible exception of an SE this year and the 2017 iPhone next year, I plan to stick with a 2 year cycle...unless Apple really does shift to a three year design cycle like has been rumored, then I'll re-evaluate at that time.

Every year since the 3GS. It's like Christmas in September to me and I love the whole process (and really am looking forward to this one because the camera on my 6s Plus sucks SO hard in low light I can't even take it. Honestly, the 5S was better. I'm excited to test the capabilities of the new camera setup.)

I use to upgrade every single year, but that has changed with the 6S and SE. I currently have the SE and will wait until the next SE, assuming I feel it is a substantial upgrade. Phone hardware has finally peaked. The hardware and software are optimized to the point internal specs are not enough to upgrade. It would take an extreme must have feature for me to upgrade.

I used to upgrade once every two years in line with my carrier contract which included a portion to the phone payment. Now that my carrier has removed that allocation from every phone payment and requires me to purchase the phone separately, I will upgrade only when my current phone bites the dirt.

Similar. Definitely every two years once old one was paid up. But my 5S is out of contract and new contract won't subsidize me - which I'm good with.

But the 5S is fine. Looked at SE but didn't see it as offering a sufficiently compelling set of new features to make me spring, and it's not getting better with time.

I would like the next gen SE when it comes (or whatever the smallest form factor will be called) - hopefully with the next round of tech.

+1. My mom is still perfectly content with performance on her 5s. Bad battery though (bloated) and the 32GB storage is starting to feel cramped for her (she likes being able to keep all the pics and vids she takes on her iPhone) so I just upgraded her to the SE 64GB.

My dad needs a new phone (iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake button issue) and AT&T's LTE network is getting congested so I've been considering getting a new phone with LTE Band 30 support. Dad gets my iPhone 6 and I get the new one. :p

I have been an iphone owner since the 4S.

I have upgraded every year, this will be the first year I won't be upgrading.

I upgrade every 2 years - went from 3G, to iPhone 4, to iPhone 5 and to iPhone 6 (my 2 year iPhone 6 contract naturally expires next week!!). I never bother with the 'S' phones - they're not really worthy upgrades IMHO.

A good reason why nobody really needs to replace their phones every second year...

I'm not sure... The iPhone 6 that I have is now almost two years old and the battery performance has deteriorated a lot. Apple said it tests okay but real life use was getting to be unmanageable. I bought the power case. The setup works alright but the case takes a very long time to recharge. I've had the same experience with the 4 and the 5S.

I've decided to try Lumia 950XL this year anyway. It should be here soon. I really don't care for Android, but wanted to try something new. Windows phone looks interesting and if they announce the Surface Phone in the next few days then I'll return the Lumia. Next year I'll probably buy the anniversary iPhone. We'll see...

"When I am impressed by the current version"

When the 6s rolled out I liked what it brought to the table, but was still content with my iPhone 6. Now I am looking to upgrade to a larger screen size so I will be upgrading to the 7 Plus. If next year's version has all the things they are saying it will, I will likely upgrade next year. If I didnt want a larger phone, I would just hold out till next year.
