I’m sorry but it simply doesn’t work

Don’t care about what one video says..bixby is awful and Siri is far better. Siri may not be amazing but it at least does basic tasks well. Bixby can’t even do that.

It’s still awful on my dads note 9

Not sure why anybody who has a Samsung device would use anything but google assistant anyway seeing as it’s built in with the phone anyway
Exactly. It just doesn’t work. I had it disabled on the note 8 and the S9 plus. It got on my nerves having to repeat the same thing over and over and it still doesn’t do what I wanted.

It even failed during the note 9 unpacked event.

I agree most would just use google assistant. It’s a pity the button can’t be disabled on the note 9.

Siri works and bixby doesn’t. That’s it. Siri might not be as good as google assistant or Alexa but it does work.

Coming from someone that I bet has never used Bixby!

I actually have and it’s terrible.

Don’t think mib has ever used an iPhone, he used to be a Symbian fan before android.

Have you ever used tizen on a phone?

Lol, siri and works in the same sentence.. well I never...

I can only speak for myself, but Siri has been great for me the last couple years. Granted, I don't sit there asking it random questions. I was never big into voice assistants but have slowly started using it more with my Apple Watch and HomePod's. I use it for HomeKit and Music primarily, but commands have never failed me with Siri. I have 2 HomePod's in my house and I can say a command from almost anywhere and one of them picks it up. I would agree that Siri is limited in it's capabilities, but definitely works well for me. I can't be the only one.

Well it does work For normal day to day tasks

High tech questions then no but doing tasks which are normal day to day such as

Setting shopping list
Playing music
Adding calendar events
The weather
Controlling your lights
Playing podcasts
Setting a timer
Alarms

Then yes it works fine

All of the above I use regularly. If I want super smart answers or have a laugh with a smart assistant I use my google mini in the kitchen but for everything else Siri on my HomePods are the way to go.

At least Siri is honest when it doesn’t know the answer. Alexa just tries to waffle on and doesn’t give you the right answer.

I use the HomePods for all my important day to day stuff.

Echos to play games with and google home mini for complex questions.

Nobody really cares about screen to body ratio.

The chin, the forehead and the curved display makes the display feel smaller than it really is compared to a flat display like the iPhone X.

iPhone X is much more immersive than the note 9. Because it doesn’t have a chin or forehead.

The s9 and the iPhone X have the same screen size but the bezels make the s9 look clunkier next to the iPhone X, even though it has a higher screen to body ratio than the iPhone X, just doesn’t look like it.

I care about screen to body ration because that’s the true measurement.

Bixby runs circles around Siri.

You can assign a chain of commands with Bixby. For example, If I invoke Bixby and say “goodnight”, it enables DND, clears all apps in the background.

In the morning, I say “good morning”, it tells me the weather forecast for the day, traffic conditions to work, and eta to work and provides the days news.

Those are just a couple of many that I have set up.

That’s cool....on paper, but in real life....

Kinda makes you think if screen to body ratio is a pointless metric, since the s9 has a higher one but just doesn’t look like it.

Not bixby again.

I see the ugly notch and I want to smash the ipx

You can do all of that with Siri shortcuts. It’s coming with iOS 12 in a few weeks.

Bixby has a lot of features, some features that even the google assistant doesn’t have. However if it doesn’t work then what good are all those features? If it keeps telling you it can’t understand you and doesn’t do what you’ve asked then it’s no good at all.

Body to screen ratio is important though.

Random questions are what make Google Assistant really useful. We were at one location buying printer ink and my wife wanted to get my son an ironing board for his new house. Asked Google where were the closest places to buy an ironing board and got three suggestions. Bought one soon after :)

That’s cool, no knock on Google Assistant. I know it’s quite capable, I just don’t use a voice assistant that way. It’s definitely more advanced than Siri. At the same time, I don’t think that means Siri is terrible. It works really well for what I use a voice assistant for and it will get better over time. No dealbreaker for me either way.

I don't know if Siri could or could not provide that information. But why wouldn't you TRY to use an assistant for my example? What would you do in similar circumstances that provided me with details of where to shop and then navigation in a matter of seconds?

Edit: added TRY

I guess the question for me would be - why would I?

Normal everyday items like those can be found in any shopping centre or supermarket, while I tend to use amazon to pick up the rest.

I have used google to search for stuff like more specialised items such as furniture. I guess this could be useful on google assistant; I just don’t see myself using it enough to justify switching to said app (or even to android) just for it.

It tried the request, it didn’t work. In this specific situation, I would either ask Siri on my Apple Watch for directions to a specific store, or just open Maps on my iPhone and do it that way.

If you know the store to go to. I didn't. The directions came as extra.

I wanted a location I could get easy access to with car outside door. Not wander round a shopping centre to look and then have to lug back to a carpark. And an ironing board is not an every day item found in any supermarket. People purchase these like once in ten years or more. And my wife wanted it that afternoon, not tomorrow from Amazon. And wanted to see it in the "flesh".

The defence systems in some of you people are comical :)

Again, who said Siri is unusable? Defence, defence!

The person I responded to before you jumped in the conversation. I guess I just assumed you were continuing the anti-Siri narrative. That’s usually how it works around here. My apologies if that wasn’t the case.

Accepted. The anti-Siri narrative. Would that be like the anti-Bixby narrative certain posters have on here? I can think of one in particular :)
