My phone is at the house. Tempted to have the wife give me a picture of the label so I can call AT&T. Can anyone confirm if the ICCID is on the box?

The ICCID was on the 4S box. That's the best I can do for you until UPS shows up...

ARG! I want it now!!!

So I actually had to go to the store and get a new nano sim since the apple.com order was already active. They said because of it being active they are not able to do an upgrade swap without an unactive sim card..luckily the at&t store is only down the street from where I work

Did you turn the phone on before calling AT&T?

Or was it fresh out of the box never turned on?

Done!! I was on hold for about 10 minutes but after that it was a couple minutes and done.

I have to say that when the line I used to upgrade number appears and I have to say accept it I held my breath... But it worked great!!!

Did you order from Apple.com or AT&T?

when I first called i didnt even turn it on.. girl was clueless. called another time.. she said turn it on and hit No when asking to activate with my new number.. never gave me that option.. phone was active already so I had to get a new sim

Can I chat online and get this done since I'm at work?

Also if I do this while at work it won't affect my phone until I actually "activate" the new iPhone 5 once I get home correct?

Phone was ordered from AT&T

Called AT&T when my phone arrived. Rep told me to turn it on, showed the number I ordered the phone through (but not the number I wanted to swap). He said he made the ICCID swap, so I went on to the next screen (as I read in a similar post in this thread). When the phone got to the home screen, I went to Settings > Phone and no phone number was entered.

I entered the correct number -- AT&T shows up, I see bars -- but I can't use cellular/data.

He said that they're getting jammed do to all of the upgrades, but it's going through.

Called back and spoke to another rep. She updated my data plan from Unlimited to Unlimited 4G LTE.

Phone still isn't able to make calls or use data. It's been ~30 min.

They're telling me it's still in the process of activating, but I'm not sure I buy that.

Any advice? (really wanted to avoid having to go into an AT&T store)

It would seem to me that turning it on was what did it. Others here who bought from Apple.com were able to switch by phone.

Seems like it's a bit of luck of the draw with the agent you get. I think if they ask me to turn the phone on, I will ask them if the swap is complete before I do. If they seem clueless, I'll hang up and call back. lol

Update on my scenario:

I think they ultimately sorted how to upgrade on the Mobile Share plan (at least my account page on att.com shows it correctly after the process), but in the end she botched my wife's SIM (the line that was eligible but keeping her old phone.

It's not as bad as it could have been. Once she had me power the iPhone 5 up for the first time (after getting the nano SIM number, etc) it came up with a confirmation screen that showed my wife's number. At that point we both thought that the nano SIM was married to her line. We hung up with her noting that I'd be getting two free SIMs (nano for mine, regular for my wife's) and I finished the setup and started a restore so at least I'd have that all setup before I went to the store.

Turns out that once I got through the setup, it actually did switch it over to my number. Score! I called it from our land line to test and sure enough it works. Pretty sure my wife's SIM is still borked and I'll have to go for a swap of that once she's home later on. She's not gonna be happy!

I went into the ATT store and got mine done. Took about 10 minutes. Chatted with the rep while we waited for things to go online. He walked me out the door after we were done although I found that a bit strange, but good service. Happy with the outcome.

I think that's a new thing they are doing when they have time. They did that with me last weekend too.

I just got an email from apple stating, probably since I activated on a different number:

Dear Apple Customer,
Thank you for your recent iPhone purchase at the Apple Online Store.
We're getting ready for the activation of your iPhone. However we have identified a problem with your AT&T account.
To resolve this issue, please call us at 1-877-284-6834 and reference your Activation ID: XXXXXXXXXXX

We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thank you for choosing Apple.
Sincerely,

I ordered mine through Apple. Got mine at 1007, called AT&T around 1030. I was on hold for no more than 5 minutes. The rep that I had was awesome, extremely helpful! I told her my main concern was that I wanted my unlimited data and text to still be on my number when we swapped numbers. She thanked me for not turning my phone before calling and then did everything on her computer. After she did everything, she told me to turn on the phone, go through the steps..then I see my family numbers phone number "Do you want to activate using this phone number." She said to proceed (since that's the only option you have!). After I backed everything up from iCloud, she told me to turn off the phone, then back on...and vual-la! My number and unlimited data/text is now attached to my iPhone 5 :)

I guess it all depends on the rep you get.

ugh, wish I'd read this thread. I turned on my IP5 and called AT&T, stopped at the Activation screen when it showed the other phone number. She said she made the swap, my 4S now has no service but my 5 still wants to activate on the other number. So now I can't even call AT&T until I get to work and call on a land line.

it will show the other number you just have to say ok. if you other phone has no service that is a sign that the switch was made.

I wish I'd done that. My rep told me it was fine to turn on the phone and now it's activated on the other number and it looks like I'll have to go into the store. On my way out of town. Grrrrr.

My rep told me to turn the phone on initially and I said no I don't want it to activate on the wrong number and her reply "oh yeah good point". Ha. I love being more knowledgable than the professionals. It all worked out though.

DO NOT TURN THE PHONE ON IF DOING A SWAP.
