I used my previously activated SIM from my non-smartphone LG Xenon and it worked perfectly.

has anybodys been switched over to the $30 Unlimited on their att acount online? its been said that it will switch you over on the next bill cycle so did it do it for anybody? i see the option and it errors out when i try to switch it myself and it still shows the 2G Unlimited with the 200 text

thanks

My billing cycle ended on the 18th but it still says on my Customer Service Summary that I'm paying $20 for unlimited data, with an $8 prorated charge. So I suppose on my NEXT bill I'll see the change. Either way, I'm paying $28 for unlimited 3G data so I'm not complaining. AND it appears my FAN discount is still applied (or at least the FAN is still at the top right of my account page) so this is working doubly nice for me.

And for the record, MMS is working fine for me. Even sent one to a Verizon phone and it worked just as expected.

i am assuming that the 2g must be in recovery mode to work? i put my iphone 4 sim in my friends 2g and hook it to itunes and all it does is offer me to restore, not setup new.

Once again, restore the phone. When the restore is done, as long as you have a new sim card in the phone, it will then prompt you to activate it.

Thanks. i just did not want to wipe his contents. plus he is unlocked. i have access to another 2g that has noting on it. ill use that. thanks for the info kitty!

I could be wrong, but I believe you have to restore to original and have iTunes prompt you for activation.

ok heres my situation. I ordered an iphone 4 from my sisters account and i said i wanted to port over a number from t-mobile during the ordering process. I have access to an iphone 2g and a microsim adapter.

When I activate the iphone 2g do I selected add to an existing account or upgrade a phone on an existing line? Not sure which option to choose.

You select the option that says you are replacing your current phone with this iPhone.

Actually now when I login to the OLAM it doesn't show my line on there. Only shows her current iphone 3g which she is upgrading to the iphone 4 as well. Getting the iphone 4 friday. So from my thinking now it makes more sense to pick the add new line option. Just don't want to screw this up too bad. :(

@shuuji

Since you haven't even activated the line yet and don't even have the phone yet, I think you should wait until your IP4 shows up. If you click "activate new line", I think you'll have 2 new lines, one with a 2G and one with an IP4.

Just got the 2g trick to work. Bought a new sim off ebay (it was a sim with cutouts for regular size and micro so it was perfect). Took about 1.5 hrs for the plan change texts to come. Now showing unlimited data on OLAM. Thanks for sharing the info :p

Hey received my iPhone 4 yesterday. I activated the mini-sim with my iPhone 2g and chose the unlimited data plan for $20. I then quickly put the mini-sim card into my iPhone 4.

However I'm a little confused with the data plan I actually have. On my AT&T online account page it shows:

It shows that I have 1500 TXT however here it shows different.

Also my MMS is now working. I can't send MMS and when someone sent me a MMS(T-Mobile) it forwarded me to a website with a login and password.

So first and foremost do I have 200 or 1500 TXT? Also is there a way to fix the MMS?

Double post.

Anyone have an idea what's going on? Also just noticed it doesn't recognize the iPhone. Another thing too is when clicking to upgrade my phone line it still showed as though I was eligible for an upgrade. It showed I could get another iPhone at the subsidized price.

Can you verify that the FAN discount is being applied to your monthly data charge again (i'm assuming it should since the system switched it over, to the new data plan) after the switch has been made? Just want to verify that it got switched over, because the 2G the FAN discount did not apply towards data only voice.:)

I just received my first bill, and I can confirm that the FAN discount is being applied after the system forced me from the 2G iphone plan to the 3G unlimited plan for the iphone 4 :)

how long will this last?

I heard that this loop hole will be good until aug 27th and then the 2g will lose its unlimited plan as well therefore closing the loop. I'm hoping this is true bc I ordered my iphone 4 today and it should be about a week until I get it. So thats what I have heard can anyone else verify this info or that they have recently suceeded in this attempt

What happens to the 2g when you do this???

Hey, quick question before I lose a friend!

I have a jailbroken iPhone 4, my buddy has a jailbroken original iPhone (2g).

If I tape my microsim to his tray, and activate his phone under my number for the unlimited plan, will he lose the data on the phone?

Will this inactivate his SIM card?

I moved and don't know anywhere with an iPhone 2g where I live now, and I'm only in town for tonight, so I'm hoping to get this done as long as it won't screw my friend over.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Re: Jailbroken iPhone 2G--I don't know for sure but I think you have to un-jailbreak it before you can activate it through iTunes.

so he will lose all his cydia apps?

I may not be doing this after all :(, sucks because I have already gone over my limit twice :(

You have to restore his iPhone. iTunes will backup his personal data but all his cydia stuff will be gone. But of course there are some cydia apps that will backup the cydia data.

Honestly if you don't want to use your friends phone then you may as well just buy your own iPhone 2G. They got for 75-125 on craigslist and you can sell it after you used it.

what happens to the 2g iphone?

heading out the door now, does anyone know if doing this is gonna ruin my friend's 2g?

will he lose jb, cydia apps, music collection etc????

thanks again

Thanks, I'll see if he has his cydia apps backed up, if not I'll just have to buy a 2g, we have 4 iphone4's and they will all need this anyways.

thanks

Don't do it, your friend will lose the data on it and on the original iPhone it takes forever to set it back up because it's so s l o w. Why not just use his IMEI number and register it with AT&T. You just need your friend's IMEI number.

Do I need to call in to do it that way?

I give them IMEI # and it will immediately text me that I need a 3G plan and upgrade me?

Will this method interrupt his service at all?
