SO you already have dumbphone "activated" in the system right? If yes, go to OLAM, and then you will need to pick this feature and add it to your line. Btw, i have a family plan with 4 lines..

No I haven't yet. Should I activate it? And do I need my dad's login info for this?

Its been over 5 hours and mine hasn't switched, haven't gotten a text message, or e-mail..."gadget88", any ideas on why its not switching? :(

Is it because you added the $30 unlimited text/data/email yourself?

Well initially the customer service rep added the $10 data plan, and found out when I logged into OLAM right after I hung up with him. I saw the $30 unlimited so I checked that and applied the changes to take effect "now", which was 5 hours ago.

i think thats the problem, if it does not do it by tomo morning, call att tomo and just activate the dumb phone again.

Not sure what else to do but wait. I have done the follwing:
- Tried the origninal method using the 2g but got the email message at the end
- I then did got two new sim cards since I have two on my family plan
- I did two seperate calls to att with the micro sim inside the 2g and then they were able to switch me to the data unlimited and 200 txt
- I made a call on both phones which was last night 7/14
- I recieved the txt message about them having to switch my data plan for the iphone 4

But it is still showing the 2g unlimited plan and I never recieved the message on my second phone. Any suggestions? Thanks.

So me adding it through OLAM vs the rep adding it is totally different? I got the e-mail stating that it was changed from the $10 to the $30 successfully, when I made that change earlier. Below is the e-mail I got.

Feature Added Feature Cost Effective Date
Messaging & Data Unlimited for Quick Messaging Phones and Basic Phones $30.00 07/15/2010

These features will be removed from:
Wireless Number: xxxxxxx
Feature Removed Feature Cost Effective Date
Family Data Unlimited for Quick Messaging and Basic Phones $10.00 07/15/2010

I've been waiting a good 6 hours and still no text message. ATT knows I'm using an iPhone 3G because the $30 unlimited plan had shown up online. I haven't clicked anything, I'm just waiting like everyone said...but this is getting annoying.

Can ATT switch it over for me if I call them?

Edit: All I had to to was call ATT, tell them I switched from an iPhone 2G plan and started using a new iPhone 3G and I was having an issue with the plan switching over to the $30 unlimited. The woman asked me for the iPhone 3G IMEI number and then was able to switch me over to the $30 unlimited data plan with no issues.

Ok, so I woke up to see no text message from ATT that my data plan had changed.

Don't know what I should do now? Should I call ATT with another IMEI dumb phone number and say i'm switching phones again and have the rep add the $30 dumb phone data plan and try again?:(

Edit: Going to try the following. I put the sim card back into my dumb phone (the one I activated yesterday) and logged into OLAM and saw that it did not list the iPhone data plan options/features and removed the $30 dumb phone data plan. Now i'm going to call and try this all again with another dumb phone and ask them to add the $30 dumb phone data plan. I hope it works this time.

Edit 2: Ok so I called and activated a different dumb phone and had the rep add the $30 data plan unlimited text/data so lets try this again and hope it works. This time around the rep correctly added the $30 instead of like the first time the rep added the $10 data (like gadget88 mentioned hopefully this was the reason why it didn't work the 1st time).

contacted at&t to have them switch from the $20 to $30 but they looked up my account and said I signed up for the at&t within the last 30days and don't qualify for the $30 unlimited

I called ATT back jusst now because I said this isn't working for me. So I talked to the rep and said I needed to add my iphone 4 back to my account, and he said ok. I asked if he added my data back and he said yes. I just logged into OLAM and it has $30 unlimited data for iphone selected!!! :D

if I followed the original instructions in this thread, how long should it take to receive a text about the 3G data plan upgrade? Thanks!

EDIT- Actually got mine a few minutes after posting (about an hour and a half, for those wondering).

I did the steps the OP listed but used a micro sim adapter and it worked fine for me I now have unlimited data :D

Whatever you do, don't call at&t, because they will just do this. Let it work automatically. If you don't get switched over right away, enjoy $20 3G for however long it lasts!

There is one feature that will not work correctly if someone is stuck on a 2G data plan. MMS will not work since it requires a 3G data plan. MMS was disabled by default on all 2G data plans.
