What I did:

1. Bought jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 2g.
2. Inserted my existing AT&T plan's sim card from my old razr.
3. Called AT&T to get a data package since it wasn't automatically done by AT&T noticing that there was no data plan activated.
4. Ordered iPhone 4 through AT&T and selected the $30 unlimited data plan.
5. Once the new phone came, I activated it through iTunes as a new phone using the new micro-sim and my old number that I've had for a decade.
6. Removed old razr sim from the iPhone 2g.

Now, I've done the same thing so my GF can use the iPhone 2g. Her sim from her old phone now resides in the 2g.

Through all of this, the phone has retained it's jailbreak and unlocked status, as well as all apps(Cydia included).

If I didn't want to load up music on the 2g, I never would've sync'd with iTunes.

So yeah, I see no reason to restore the 2g phone or even go near iTunes with it.

hi

I keep getting this error "We're sorry.**AT&T has identified a problem with the information you provided." I've tried twice already.

you may want to list the steps u took from the beginning for help and if you figured it out please tell us what you did or did wrong

I'll be getting my iPhone 4 tomorrow.
Can anyone let me know if a restore is necessary?
I currently have a jailbroken and unlocked 2g on 3.1.0
If it is necessary to restore to the current 3.1.3, then I guess I'll have to do so :(

Any help is appreciated! SO excited :)

well i followed the OPs steps and that didnt work. So what i did now was got 2 new sim cards non "micro" and im trying to see if i can register it like that. I keep on getting "ATT is not registering new iPhone Activations at this moment, please try again later".

Read my last post(first post on this page), my 3.1.2 jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 2g was never restored, nor did it have to even be sync'd with iTunes at all.

But the point is to have as little contact with ATT as possible, right?
So I'm just asking if it would hypothetically work if I plugged in a JBed 2g into itunes.

I plugged a jailbroken phone into iTunes and it did not ask me to activate, so my guess is no.

Damn, I could have just taped my SIM to his phone, made a call or two, then switched back to the iphone4 and had unlimited?

Now I don't have access to a 2g, :(, so I'm going to call AT&T and give them his 2g's IMEI number, and tell them i'm using that now.

Even though my SIM card will never leave my iphone4 will this work?

Also, I took out the SIM from my iPhone4 a couple nights back to trace out an adapter for the microsim, anyways when I put the SIM back in the card, my text messaging wasn't working, anyone know why?

If I call *data# I get a text from ATT telling me my data, but I can't send or receive any texts whatsoever since removing my SIM.

Already tried, reset network settings, iphonedelivery, and reset all settings.

And you'll be waiting for a very very very long time.

You need to start over, this time restore the phone and put a new sim in the phone. Start the activation all over and this time, it will work.
I have 2 brand new sims, but they are not micro. Can i do the iPhone 2G trick with it, then just reactivate the old micro sim in the new iphone? Or would i have to visit the idiots at the ATT store for a new micro sim?

You can try and cut down the sim to put in the 4, otherwise yes, you can say hi to your friends at the AT&T store again.

I'm on the phone with ATT right now, trying to get them to switch my IMEI to a 2g's, so I can get the internets...

Oh boy am I mad...
"Your activation requires additional time to complete..."

Looks like I'll have to find myself a new sim :(

I found that this is different than serialtoon's message.
Is this one ok? Or do I need to start over?

HELPPP :(

SO this is the result. I have a new 2g unlimited.

I called on my i4, and turned it off after the call.

Can I safely turn it back on and use 3g freely on the i4 now?

**** it, here goes

seems to have worked, when I text *data# on the iphone4 it says

DATA (MB): 240.4 of 200
Overage: 40.4 (Deactivated)
Data (MB): 0 of Unlimited
Messaging: 0 of 87
Messaging: 1058 of Unlimited

With the sim in your 2G, call AT&T. If you used to have a functioning iPhone 4, just tell them it broke or you sold it or something and bought an iPhone 2G and want to activate it. Play dumb if they ask any questions. They'll ask for your IMEI and some other information that you have to access on the 2G. Once you give that to them, they'll make a test call to the phone and tell you not to answer it.

Afterwards, you can put your original/new sim back into your iPhone 4 and begin using it. For a few weeks you'll receive texts saying you need an appropriate data plan and eventually AT&T will put you on to an unlimited 3G data plan. At first, though, your bill will have a 2G unlimited data plan but your phone will still be fully functional. Or at least should be.

Ok, I got the 2g plan sorted out. I got the 2 "free texts" from ATT that tells me that they have added an appropriate plan and messaging package.
When I went on the OLAM, there is an option to select the "Data Plan for iPhone ... $30" but when I went to step 3, it told me that I was not using a valid IMEI. Does this correct itself? I hope it does.

Do I have 200 messages? OLAM says I have 80...
I'll upload a picture soon for additional information on my situation.

Completely normal. It'll eradicate itself eventually. It took a month for mine. The only problem is you get charged a prorate of $8 for some reason so your bill is a little odd.
