In regards to the people stating the FAN discount did not get removed when doing this, I read up on someone else's response on another forum in regards to this and he states the below. Is this true? I do not work for the company anymore and don't want to try this if its not going to actually discount my data plan.

"The FAN will not fall off but you will stop receiving the discount. Once you put a 2G iPhone on you account it flags your account with what at&t calls a SOC code. Once that code is on there the line stops receiving the discount and there is NO way to get it back. If its a family plan and your line is the primary you can have it changed to a different number and you can still get your discount off the voice plan but you will not get it off the iPhone Data plan. "

Did it with a 3g, however, for some reason I got no text message and i'm unable to change the data plan manually although I do have the option to select unlimited. it just gives me an error

Partially true, but misleading. Yes, you do not get a FAN discount on the 2G data plan. When the iPhone first came out FAN discounts were never applied to the iPhone data plan. However, since 3G became available on the iPhone plan, FAN discounts were applied. I have been getting a FAN discount on my 3G unlimited data plan for years now. I've had both the 2G edge only data plan and 3G data plan.

What about texting changes after being switched from 2G to 3G unlimited plan?

I happen to have a 2G iPhone and had an unused sim card for AT&T... (great luck). I restored my iPhone 2G and then activated via iTunes - no problem. I have not yet cut my simcard down (I have a sim cutter) or gone to get a new micro sim for the ip4, but see that once I put that sim back into iPhone 4, will eventually receive a message that I have been moved to the appropriate data plan.

My question is about what happens to the bundled 200 text plan that was included with the iPhone 2G unlimited data plan? Do you get moved to a 3G unlimited data plan and also a separate 200 text message bundle (cost $30+$5)? If so, is there any price benefit to being on the $40 2G+1500 text bundle before switching over to the iPhone 4? Just wondering if the pricing stayed more in line with the old plan (as I would otherwise guess that a 3G+1500 text plan would cost $30+$15 respectively after swtiching back to iPhone 4).

Thanks!

Yes, the included 200 SMS Txt package goes away once you move away from the original $20 iPhone Data Plan. The easiest way to think about the original iPhone $20 data plan was actually two parts: $15 EDGE Data plan and $5 (200 SMS Txt msg package).

I would strongly suggest that you plan to move to the correct data plan as soon as possible to ensure that you get to keep the data plan that you aquired through the "loop hole" and not wait for AT&T to notify you. As a reminder, the official AT&T stance is that the unlimted plans were changed as of June 7 and new activations would not "qualify" for the grandfathered status.

Well the odd thing is that it appears they have changed my plan via the *3262# data report. It gives me two data usage reports: one with "x of unlimited" and another that says "x of 2048 (Deactivated)". And the sim is in the iPhone 4. So I'm assuming all is good. It's just the billing website that is messed up.

I tried calling 611 and accessing the myWireless app to see what they reported my data usage as and both say that due to changes to my data features, they can't report usage until my next billing cycle starts. So I have another 11 days to see.

That's actually what should happen...

Basically you are going to pay a prorated price for both plans for the part of the month you used them, technically you had a 2gig cap for part of the cycle, so it's listed on your bill as such.

That could get people confused. For a second I thought that it meant if you didn't already have an att account before June 7, the loophole would not work for you. As far as I know, if you use this loophole, as long as it's still open, people who are not with att can still do this. monaarts was not with att until IP4 came out and it worked. Correct me if I'm wrong (am I interpreting that wrong?).

Was Edge or 3G on once the sim was reinserted into the iphone 4? Was it instantaneous or did it take a while to register?

Did you use the same micro sim throughout the entire process or use multiple micro sims? Thanks.

I just put my microSIM into my iphone 2G. Plugged it in and it asked what plan I wanted. I put the $40 plan of unlimited data and text. Then I put the microSim back into my iPhone 4. A few minutes later I got a text from AT&T saying my iPhone 4 did not have the correct data plan and they switched me to the right text and data plan. I went online and it showed I had unlimited 3G and unlimited text.

(BTW) this was my first account with AT&T.

i'm not sure. It is still showing a discount on my voice plan but not my data or text. I'll call them if it doesn't show up on my bill

*****.. First, my phone still doesnt say Edge or 3G anymore and i did it about 15-20 min ago. But on the other hand, i logged into my att wireless account and it says that i have both unlimited data and messaging.. I too signed up for the $40 data/msg plan on the 2g when i went through this.. I never recieved a msg though saying "my iPhone 4 did not have the correct data plan" or anything similar... any suggestions?

Edit** i shut down my phone and turned it back on and its up and running.. thanks OP for this!!

just wait a few minutes. They also sent me an email

I didn't choose the $40 plan of unlimited data/text. And my online account isn't reflecting an unlimited 3G data, still showing $20 unlimited 2G data. It won't let me change it either. Ughhh :(

Please keep me posted, if you do get an answer on if you were able to get the FAN discount applied to the data after doing this unlimited data loophole switch.

It doesn't necessarily help, but after doing the switch and currently back on the iPhone 4, my account still shows my company name and FAN number in the top right when viewing my account, so the FAN wasn't completely lost. Hopefully once this bill cycle ends I'll know if the discount has been lost and/or re-applicable.

wait a day or two it should change automatically

PReviously i replied asking about the unlimited text.
I just read that by choosingn the $40 unlimited edge/texting plan, you will be grandfathered up to the $30 unlimted 3g/texting plan?
can someone veryify this for me please?

I just got the text. Looked on my AT&T app and it shows there are 2 $30 unlimited plans. The one I'm on is the one that says something about customers who didn't have the right data plan. The other is the normal 3G plan. Should I switch or does it notmatter?

Uploaded screenshot of the two plans, the one I have currently is the one I suspect is what alot of us have at the moment. Part of me thinks I should switch it to the other one.

When was there an unlimited 3G/texting plan?

The only plans I knew about were unlimited 3G and unlimited 2G + 200 or so txt.

Sorry to bump this but has anyone had problems with MMS after they did this? My plan online says I have everything i wanted.. Unlimited 3G data, unlimited messages (the one i signed up for originally when i came to att 2 weeks ago, not the one i signed up for when activating the 2G during this process). So everything worked except for MMS. I want to avoid calling att lol
