Don't mean to resurrect an old thread but this can be done using various tools:

I recommend the methods in this post: https://www.alexwhittemore.com/controlling-macbook-pro-charging-cap-with-alfred/

I have also just registered on this site to say thank you. I have Catalina so I decided to use Al Dente but your link got me there, so thank you.

It was so disheartening reading the first few pages of this thread, hoping someone would answer OP's question (my question as well) and having to read through post after post of people telling the OP that he's wasting his time and that Apple knows best. The irony of wasting time mashing angry words about how manual battery management is a waste of time!

The argument that it is pointless to limit charge to 70% because you just artificially limited your battery capacity doesn't make sense if you think about how a person would really use manual battery management to their advantage. I own a PC laptop that lets me do this, as well as an electric vehicle so I have some personal experience. For those of us with a predictable schedule like myself, I simply charge to 100% when I know I will need it, such as a business trip. All other times I limit charge to 50% or 70% depending on what margin I want for unexpected dashes out the door. That way I get the best of both worlds -- long battery runtime when I need it, and at all other times I don't need it I am preventing battery degradation.

Three years later, my 100% charge on a well-managed battery is bigger than your 100% charge on a poorly managed battery. This can make the difference between being able to work on the plane and in the airport on a business trip, or not!

For all who are interested in limiting their maximum battery charge can use this utility:

For people who are interested in knowing why it's better to charge Li-ion batteries to only up to 80%

Peace!

In several texts about li ion batteries you can read the recommendation not to charge about over ~70% - when you want to preserve the quality of your battery as long as possible.

Let's assume, that is true:

Is there a software for a MBP 13" 2015 with OS X 10.11.4 which can automatically limit the maximum charge?

Background info: Mostly I use my MBP as a desktop computer and not mobile.

Thanks.
Man I for sure agree with you, Its now years later and I saw this feature on flagship phones but I do not see it on 2020 M1 chip Macs?! I don't know why people here gave you such a hard time this is a legit question and doesn't matter how marginal the increase is there will indeed be an increase! This feature on other devices is known as passthrough charging and it allows a device to be used and plugged in while capping the battery at a set percentage. ***edit: I am now trying 'Aldente' noted above, seems like it is exactly what I was looking for, and its the perfect name for this app!
