After exploring, with the iPhone Upgrade program, you can't do this through favorites. That feature only saves the color, carrier, and capacity, not purchase option.

Did anybody do that for the 8? Any first hand accounts?

These instructions are for people who are willing to shell out $1k in a single go. A majority of folks, especially for a phone, will not do that.

Most people seem to prefer to spread out that cost over 24 months with an option to trade in after 12. Frankly, the fastest way I've tested (if you are on Verizon) is to use the VZW app. All the carriers are getting ample stock so don't rely solely on the Apple Retail app

Even if the phone is saved in favorites you still have to confirm carrier and if you want to buy via Apple upgrade or provider program.
So it isn’t a matter of just adding to bag and paying. There are options even once it’s in favorite. Am I wrong?

I’m on the same page as you. I’m thinking we just click our preapproval banner. I’m just happy my choice is likely the least popular, 256GB Silver, so I might have a chance or two to get it right as quickly as possible.

I have 2 Apple Pay credit cards added to my wallet.. but cannot see the “Buy with Apple Pay” option in the Apple Store app after adding an item to the bag.. anyone with same issue? This is the Australian store

This is pissing me off. All of my cards are coming up with the wrong billing address. When I go and remove the address (from everywhere, phone contacts, apple pay in settings, and updated apple store billing and shipping information) as soon as I try to use apple pay it adds the old address back on. Any ideas on how the hell to get rid of an old address???? Is it loading them from the credit card company automatically???? I mean I have already contacted them months ago to change my address and the CC company apps show my correct NEW address so where the crap is the old one coming from? It's an easy change but this will cause me time to switch when making the purchase grrrrrrr
Did you try updating it from the apple pay spot? That seem to translate it for me. Apple pay on the phone that is.

This is full cash only and does not address any AT&T Next, iPhone Upgrade or other payment options.

For anyone that will be using a payment plan through their carrier, you CANNOT order through the app. Only the website or calling your provider

I know it lets you set up the order and save it with your AT&T/Apple/Verizon/etc. installment plan specified, but when you actually go to the saved item, no payment plan is specified, only the chosen carrier-specific model. I've been wondering about this because it'll either save time or create extra steps depending on whether the installment plan preference is stored as part of the favoriting. Does anyone know how it works in that regard? I've favorited items and zoomed through purchasing before, but only for stuff like the Apple Watch that's full-fee up front.

Because you can’t use a payment plan with the Apple store app. Only pay full price or use Apple IUP

Nope, nope, nope, nope.

You CAN do this while setting up a payment plan though a carrier, as long as your carrier lets Apple check your upgrade status with their system.

I am on AT&T Next, and have used the Apple Store app to order my upgrade, and have my preferred phone saved to favorites, with AT&T Next as the payment option.

I did it the same way last year with no delay.

This whole "Add to favorites" procedure only works if you are willing to pick a carrier. I want to buy a SIM-free model, and according to Apple support that option will not become available until the whole order madness starts...

Macrumors I bite my thumb at you! How dare you!

You have no consideration for your loyal forum fans, instead you are promoting this clickbait for the retards out there.

Honestly I don’t think there is a “least popular option” this year, there are only 4 choices....

If you're on the upgrade program it's actually easier. You can go in and get pre-approved for which device you want now. Once it's time to order all you have to do is go back to the app, click a banner at the top (you'll see it once you get pre-approved), confirm your order and you're good to go.

Do you know what page the banner is on? Account, shop, or discover?

Same for me. 3 cards that support Apple Pay, no Apple Pay icon on the Australian store.

They said SIM-free will be available to order on 10/27? I would be surprised if support has that information.

The support rep said that this option will appear when the order process goes live at 12:01am. But I am not convinced that he knows FOR SURE this will be an option. He may have simply 'guessed' that the option will become available...

If it does not become available, I guess I'll just buy a Verizon or Sprint model (full price, no contract). These are the same as the SIM-free model. My actual carrier is AT&T.

The author forgot to mention that once the alarm goes off 15 minutes before the preorders start, one should run to the bathroom to make sure that the urge doesn’t come while in the middle of the ordering process.

And if one had to do #2, one should not forget to wipe while still being sleepy.

Interesting.

AT&T is my carrier as well. I was going to wait for the SIM-free model to be released, but decided to buy the AT&T model.

Sure, who knows I may end up doing the same. My only reason for preferring the SIM free model / model with CDMA support is that it makes it a little easier to resell down the line.

So it appears that there is currently no SIM-Free option immediately available like there was with the iPhone 8 launch. The Verizon/Sprint models are 100% the same phones as the ‘SIM-Free’ models, correct? So if I’m on AT&T I can simply add a pay in full Verizon model and all should be good?

EDIT: Appears that this method will not work as you have to verify your Verizon/Sprint number/ss digits at checkout. Shoot.

That was my reason. Keep in mind, I believe you need to be Verizon customer to pre-order the Verizon model from Apple.
