Whatever man. When I worked as a lead captain at a steak house, I made between $300-$500 a night. I handled thousands of cards. Never once thought of doing anything malicious.

Just because you didn't doesn't mean that someone else won't.

Having watched the demo video from 'The Verge' in the news story, am I right in thinking that your phone does not display the amount you are about to pay, until you have actually paid for it?

That seems a bit odd.
Many of the NFC readers I have seen in shops have no screen, and so you're verifying a payment without confirming the amount.
Yes, the staff person behind the counter may tell you the amount, but with chip n pin, you see the amount before confirming, and even in the old days of signing a slip of paper, you saw the amount you were paying.

Wouldn't it make sense for the transaction amount to appear on the phone screen, before you touch the TouchID to confirm..?

For both of these.. Strange.. Canadian with a Canadian iTunes account and I see the + and an option to add Apple Pay after clicking the +, though none of my Canadian cards work (as expected), though my Amex produces a different error rather than saying the card isn't supported.

Bollyboy I can understand it not working at all, but va1984 should have the option. Would closing PassBook and/or restarting the phone make a difference?

I'm in the UK too,
Just downloaded 8.1 and opened passbook but no apple pay setup shown (as expected)

Go to settings and change your region to US and reopen passbook and apple pay set up was shown.

Obviously may UK bank cards don't pass verification stage but its all there when we do get Apple pay!

I noticed on the recent transactions (listed on the info page for my AmEx card in passbook) a charge for $99 from Shell (gas station).

I thought that was an odd amount so I looked it up on my AmEx online statement; it was only a $62.xx tank of gas.

Hmmmmm. I'll be paying close attention for a while.

Edit: for clarity, the gas purchase was not via apple pay. The recent transaction info just showed up when I added the card to passbook.

Since these forums see a vast bias to the tiny minority of people experiencing problems, I stopped in just to say I had zero issues with my BofA credit card. Setup was exactly as breezy as suggested. I did not have to try it multiple times. I used the camera to scan the number then manually entered the expiration and CVV number.

Then I tested it out at Walgreen's and everything was fine. I was slightly tripped up by the requirement to confirm the purchase amount on the terminal. In retrospect: "duh." Most places where I spend my money do not have such a price verification step so I suspect this aspect of things will just vary from place to place.

I'm a little nervous to use it in some places as the employees of those places seem like complete morons who can barely operate their cash registers, but, hey... I guess I'll have to give it a try at some point. I've already been tired of the plastic-dance for years. It's long past time for it to die.

Tried both. Multiple times. I checked the region in the iTunes account page: US. I even tried toggling the date & time display format (I normally prefer UK format) but - obviously - this didn't change anything...

Go to settings > general > language and region.
and change to US.
Restart passbook and Apple Pay setup should appear.

Worked for me in the UK. (although my cards don't work yet!)

Couple of unexpected's...

First, upon trying to connect my current BofA iTunes debit card to :apple:Pay, I was redirected to call BofA for verification purposes. I appreciate the extra security (and the friendly voice on the line), but it certainly was not as easy as just taking a picture of your card.

Next, I walked over to Walgreens, picked up some Combo's, and tried to pay with my iPhone 6. The iPhone screen acted as expected, but after tapping the TouchID, the POS screen directed me to enter my debit card PIN. I'm not sure if the issue was iOS, Walgreens, B of A, Visa, user error, or something else, but essentially the iPhone saved me a card swipe. Anyone have a similar experience using a debit card with :apple:Pay? Or just an bleeding edge hiccup?

Peace be with you.

Choose credit instead. You'll always have to answer those questions at places like that.

Added my capital one sparks/chase sapphire/chase debit card. Couldn't add my two chase ink busines CC's and discover CC either.

Not really worth it for me as i don't like to use passwords/touch id and i have to have it on to use this service. If you turn off passcode then it will delete all your saved cards.

So my chase debit card worked after a couple of tries and my Amazon credit card (also through chase) failed and gave me the "this card is still unspported by your bank" error. Has anyone else with the Amazon card had any success?

My guess is the specialty rewards cards are getting overlooked - my Playstation Credit Card (a standard Capital One Visa card) - is according to Capital One Twitter not supported; perhaps the Amazon card is the same - really does suck - it really should be as simple as is it this bank and a Visa etc. - yes - then it should work - don't think that is how it works though :(

Sooo.... Now we know its that simple to "enable" apple pay... How do I get a U.S. credit card? #

Lol @ trusting apple with secure data

Does it? I think it's all encrypted, so you don't really trust Apple with much.

I think you'll look back and say "Lol @ trusting all those greasy waiters with my credit card for all those years, disappearing in the back room for 5 minutes and returning with some paper to sign"

The point being that this is MUCH more secure than credit cards have ever been - banks have been such laggards on this, and as a business owner myself, all the chargebacks and stuff get passed down the line to businesses, and the banks did nothing but add a "3 digit security code (CVS)" for the last 40 years.

Still confused

I am sure it has been mentioned somewhere, maybe multiple times but i am still confused about the "partnering stores." I was under the impression that if your bank participated and the retailer had NFC, you could use apple pay. Is that not the case?

Received this message from AMEX after adding my card to ApplePay. Seems the last 5 digits of the Device Account Number may be required at some merchants.

Store gift cards

Is there any way to convert a plastic Nike or Apple gift card to Passbook? I've done this with Office Depot, but can't get it done with Apple or Nike.

A $100 pending charge is a fairly common amount as a "pending charge" to ensure you have enough credit to cover even the largest of gas tanks.

However, you called it a recent transaction, so if this was a posted amount, then who knows what's going on..

Wondering if the phone was showing the per-authorized amount instead of the actual charge?

I contacted my credit union and here is their response:

"We are in the process of evaluating this service. No timeframe has been determined as of yet."

Credit unions are great, but sometimes they are so slow to adapt new technologies. This bank's iOS app hasn't even been updated to support iOS 7!

My understanding was that iPhone 5s users would be able to use Touch ID for online purchases in apps that support Apple Pay. (http://www.forbes.com/sites/markrogowsky/2014/10/20/apple-pay-is-here-and-its-going-to-be-great-why-the-skeptics-have-it-wrong/) However, I don't have the options to add a credit card.

You'll need an iPhone 6 / 6+ for Apple Pay, even for NFC-free in-app payments. This is because your card information is stored on a secure enclave in the CPU, and requires the CPU to support such storage (much the same way that fingerprint information is stored)

That's sucks because it is completely capable of doing so.

No it doesn't. The 5s doesn't include the "secure element" which is a piece of hardware that stores the credit card information on the phone. If you pair it with the Apple Watch you could make Apple Pay-based purchases because the watch will come with the secure element hardware as well.

Is no one else upset that you can't add Corporate American Express cards!?

I added mine. I had to call in to verify it but it added just fine. I think it depends on which Corp card program it falls into. Small business is probably ok but large corps likely have more they need to look into before they allow this.
